  1. He will definitely come closer, but I would be willing to wager neither of us get there…
  2. Mondesi has mad skills, but the chances he gets 650 PAs are only slightly greater than the chances I do…
  3. Depends on the PTBNL, which could depend on how many games Mondesi plays between now and mid-July. I like Taylor. Mondesi is 10 lbs of talent jammed into a 5 pound shoulder brace. This deal could go bad just as easily as it could pan out…
  4. But the point is that the trade was a good trade, even if McGuire isn’ta long term piece. By calling it an overall wash, you’re at least giving him credit for cleaning up his mistake…
  5. Certainly he’s holding out for the best deal, but how many teams are looking at Andrus? Boston is rumored to be. Anyone else? Atlanta makes sense, but are they?
  6. I’m pretty sure Donaldson and his 128 OPS+ with Minnesota was a bigger part of the trade than just a salary dump…
  7. I never said McGuire was significant anything, just that he was better than Diekman. I’d like to have gotten more for Benintendi, but he was not exactly helping his trade value. Had the Sox kept him, would the team have ever acquired Renfroe? Or, as I thought at the time, platooned the two?
  8. Exactly. At this point in the off-season, the Sox are not getting a shortstop with even average offense and defense. Getting one who excels defensively and whose offensive shortcomings can be buried at the bottom of the lineup is best case. And I don’t suspect Simmons will cost much more than even Arroyo. He’d be cheap enough to bench every so often…
  9. Closer to it than 28 teams with dedicated closers…
  10. I didn’t mind JBJ. Until the pitchers all went on the IL in early July, the Sox had a winning record…
  11. So the Yankees are prioritizing a temporary shortstop over a starting left fielder? If they deal IKF, the only real landing spots are Boston and Atlanta. I suppose Arizona might consider him as a starting 3b as well…
  12. McGuire for Diekman was absolutely not a wash, and it doesn’t matter who brought in Diekman. He dumped a player whom wasn’t working out and brought in one who has so far. That was absolutely a good trade. I think it’s too early to give up on Winckowski. He still could be a solid contributor, but he doesn’t look like a starter right now. And German is up next to prove something…
  13. I could handle 15 DRS from a ninth hitting sub-.600 OPS shortstop…
  14. The Phillies rode one to the World Series…
  15. The whole treatment of Hill was absolutely ridiculous. They limited his innings like he was some venerable old grandpa who had to be pulled at the first sign that there might be a sign of pending trouble. Nothing was more egregious than that game against Baltimore where he was removed in the fifth inning after giving up his first hit of the game…
  16. True. With Arroyo, the question isn’t talent. In this respect, he’s like Eovaldi a few years back…
  17. One name completely omitted from the Sox middle infield list is Andrelton Simmons. Last year, Simmons was a part time player for the Cubs. Two years ago, when with the Twins, Simmons accounted for an outstanding 15 DRS, good for second in MLB. He has had some injuries, but if remotely healthy, might be the best for it for the Sox and their lightweight infield…
  18. Maybe it’s time to return Duran to 2b…
  19. In Pittsburgh, last place is considered par. Would you cut a golfer from your tour if he got at least par on every hole?
  20. Juan Soto had an OPS+ of 130 for the Padres last year, which translated to a .778 OPS. Assuming league averages stay roughly the same, does that seem right for Bogaerts? And if he posts a .778, will some folks suddenly think we unloaded him at the right time?
  21. That picture was taken in an Ames room. Ben is 15 feet behind Chaim. Also one has to expect that after running the Pirates or several years, Ben’s posture has suffered significantly…
  22. Also 5 years old…
  23. Ben is taller…
  24. Dombrowski reportedly wanted Ben to stay on. Not sure if he would have been fired when Dombrowski was. His replacement, Mike Hazen, left on his own choice in 2016 for a better opportunity in Arizona. And Hazen wasn’t replaced. So if Cherington stated under Dombrowski, that he would have been fired along with DD is just speculation. Not necessarily incorrect speculation, but speculation nonetheless…
  25. If Ben had stayed on, I would imagine he’d be slashing budget as well…
