  1. The Sox dealt away Allen nearly 7 years ago. Sox fans can’t wait for Brayan Bello to make himself a Cy Young contender after 3 starts and 12 IP, or for Casas to establish himself after 75 at bats. So.. seven years?
  2. Not sure, but given he just completed 4 years with Boston and made 73 (out of 128) possible starts and ended his career with them injured, I’m not surprised he didn’t come back. Whether it was because Boston didn’t want him back out because Texas simply offered more money, I’m not sure…
  3. Well the best bargain so far is a guy who: 1. Cost $3.5 mill for one year, so no risk 2. Has a 1.86 ERA/1.00 WHIP 3. Once played for Boston 4. And Joe Castiglione once hinted was a major league *******. Castiglione might be right, but Wade Miley has spent the bulk of his career as a massively underrated pitcher…
  4. They also took 2 out of 3 from the Dodgers and outscored them 21-11 in the process…
  5. Anaheim would have a better record than Boston if not for losing 3 out of 4 to Boston…
  6. Senga has given up 5 HRs in 26IP. How did we miss out on this obvious fit for the rotation?
  7. Eovaldi? He was a good pitcher when healthy. But he wasn’t healthy all that often. And at 33, it’s a situation that’s only going to get worse. Texas signed him for 2 yrs $32mill with a vesting option for 2025. I would be surprised if that option (which requires 300 IP) ever vests. Eflin would have been nice, despite his lack of any track record as a starter…
  8. And they’re staying in top without their (arguably) best position player in Oneil Cruz…
  9. You really do like to argue both sides of this. Last year the Sox went through post season teams Houston, Seattle, Cleveland, St. Louis, etc. And your response was “that doesn’t count those teams are struggling at the time. Right now teams like Pitt and Minnesota are clearly not struggling and playing very well, but your attitude is “that doesn’t matter. They’re not good teams.”
  10. Says the guy who spent the entire off-season citing the Sox finished “behind the Orioles” as if they were still a 52-110 and not, you, an 85 win team that just missed the postseason. Also don’t forget, a lot of teams the Sox have played that have elite records have played either the Royals or A’s or White Sox or Reds or some other last place team. What last place losing team have the Red Sox played? The Sox have only played one series against a team with a losing record. How many of these “good” teams have? Even Tampa can’t say that…
  11. There are 134 games left. The Red Sox have actually played a surprisingly tough schedule so far. They’ve played first and second place teams almost exclusively, with only Anaheim and Detroit don’t fit the bill. I don’t expect Pitt and Minnesota to start stop their divisions, but they are playing tough baseball right now…

  13. Does this scuttlebutt exist anywhere besides this one Internet forum?
  14. If you’re lying I’m going to stay up all night sticking pins in a George Pickens doll…
  15. Sale is throwing 93.7 mph. He threw around or less than this in 2016 (5.3 fWAR) and 2014 (5.0 fWAR). While he is unlikely to reach those WAR values again (mostly due to not enough IP), at least we know he can be effective throwing this hard. Kluber is down to 88mph, down from 88.9 mph last year. While he did post 3.0 fWAR last year, he’s nearly 1 full mile per hour slower. Also that is the only other sub-90 season in his career. Unlike Sale, this is uncharted territory for Kluber. I expect more klunkers along the way…
  16. The Sox have a $29mill number one starter totaling at about 1/6 of the total payroll. He just needs to pitch like one. The good news is he has been throwing 93-94 mph and is probably a but gusty after 3 years of inactivity. However he is still 3 years older…
  17. You can be sure. It’s not fair…
  18. Gee, in the first post I quoted, you capitalized “suspect” but not “so far.” How could anyone miss that and not see your point? Casas is 13 for 75. Not good, but even a couple lucky grounders or different scorer calls, and his BA goes up almost 70 points. One good day at the plate and his BA goes up even more. The good about Casas is he is taking walks at a tremendous pace. The bad is he is striking out at a tremendous pace. He’s been more than solid in the field - easily the best 1b the Sox have had since Moreland. And he’s batting at the bottom third of the lineup. There really isn’t all that much about him that is suspect; he’s shown he can hit MLB pitching. His OPS after a career is still only .672, but he’s also only 23. Not every player is a star right away. Since he can field his role and isn’t a starting pitcher, he’s really not among the top issues with this team right now…
  19. I don’t get why some teams change and some don’t. I can see why Texas Senators would be silly, but what was wrong with Milwaukee Pilots?
  20. Then why are so many folks complaining about Casas?
  21. And from Speier, who chose that quote to publish!!
  22. You mean Casas hasn’t conquered MLB yet? He’s had 75 at bats!!! What’s this going to take? 80? 92? If he’s not a top ten MVP candidate by 110 at bats, DFA!
  23. I think Boston is a platoon bat who could probably benefit from some positional versatility. I don’t think MLB starter is in his future, simply because he still struggles mightily against RHP. But that doesn’t mean he couldn’t be a major league player…
  24. Why a closer? Don’t like Kenley?
  25. Exactly. And we have two already…
