But with all that, they’re still 40-41? At 40-40, they were 3 games off the pace of the 2019 team (43-37 after 80 games). A team that had a rotation of Sale, Price, Eovaldi, ERod and Porcello. And still had Betts, Bogaerts, Devers, Benintendi, JD Martinez, etc…

But how do you define “a good team to begin with.” 2013 and 2018 both won it all. But 2014 and 2019 both looked similar to their predecessors and yet got 26 and 24 games worse respectively….

Verdugo needs an extension. Apparently he is open to one, per MLBTR. If you want a quick turnaround back to relevance, limit trading to players only signed for this year and positions of depth at the upper levels. That’s why I mentioned Duran. I suppose McGuire would work, but he would need to make himself relevant quickly, a tough order given he’s on the IL…

If the Sox need to build a pitching staff, the worst way to do it is to trade away pitching. Unless you want a worse team next year…

I seem to recall he was let go before being suspended. Of course, even if that is the case, it could also mean he was fired before the suspension was announced…

I think so, too. The 2019 team was one of the two most expensive rosters in team history, and finished up at 84-78, and about a dozen games out of the playoffs. And just never felt competitive. I’m sure that was a big factor in how things are run today

I’m in Chicago. There’s a reason I have never once posted about high ticket prices at Fenway. They simply do not affect me. I know I’m not alone in that regard on this board. And I’ve also seen numerous teams that remain profitable by intentionally not spending, producing a poor quality team, and cashing revenue-sharing money. The Sox have gotten cheaper, but not (IMO) for that reason.

The thing is, it’s not a democracy; it’s a dictatorship. I look at it this way - Henry has shelled out well over $1billion on my entertainment, and done so successfully. He still wants to keep me entertained, but for (much?) less money. I can let him give that a try. Four WS titles far outweigh 5 last place finishes, especially since the Sox (per your post) tend to be one of the more successful last place teams…

No. But if we’re going by actual firings, Cherington quit. DD wanted to stay him every article at the time. Everything else about that situation, while potentially true, is still speculation. Also the simple way to look at it is, if the GM goes, the manager is going, too. So your 50/50 split is: 1. Cora gets fired 2. Bloom and Cora get fired

You’re more likely to see Bloom get fired than Henry sell. And you’re more likely to see Cora get fired than Bloom…

So let’s get this straight - you think Duran, who is under team control for 5 more years, makes no money, and has been worth 1.2 fWAR in 220 PA (putting him on pace for a 3+ fWAR season) will NOT get any pitching back? But instead the answer is to trade away Kluber, Jansen, Pivetta, Dalbec, Duvall - and for what? You’re not even getting salary relief because only one of them is under contract for next year anyway…

They’re on a pace to win 99 games and no one can name 3 of their starting pitchers. Even Brandon Hyde has to look up their names on Baseball Reference… -
On BTV the Sox major leaguer with the most trade value is Jarren Duran. A surplus value of $42mill. With Ceddane Rafaela in Worcester and a dearth of pitching right now, should Duran be the player to move for MLB or MLB-ready controllable pitching? Is this a Sell High opportunity? Or is Duran a star in the making? Will waiting to find out delay the improvement of this team?

I actually don’t care if they have star players or not. (And worth pointing out they didn’t win any with the combos you mentioned, and even had to jettison Nomar to get the first.) I want a competitive team. I think this team is probably better than most do, but I don’t think they’re making any noise after September…
