  1. Denslinger was acquired for German, not Wallace. Wyatt Mills was acquired for Wallace…
  2. Turner to 1b. Valdez/Dalbec platoon at DH…
  3. Yes the Sox will miss out on the entire class of aging veterans who can no longer reach 90 on the radar gun. I am pretty sure Shohei Ohtani isn’t going to factor in the brevity of Kluber’s Boston tenure when making career decisions. They can’t DFA Kluber because, as awful as he has been, the Sox need enough SP to get through 136 more games. And even the occasional Kluber beat down might be oddly beneficial if he lasts at least 5 IP. Plus there is the hope that he can adjust and turn around this abysmal start using only his Veteran Craftiness. After all, he still only has a handful of (uninspiring) starts. But he also did a very good job against a Baltimore lineup that can absolutely hit…
  4. It’s hard to tell by looking at their numbers over the years in a cursory fashion, because of their dedication to the opener strategy. But it did seem for a while that they used Ryan Yarbrough and Yonny Chirinos that way as well…
  5. Sano is available but he also had a .345 OPS in limited action last year and has a 102 OPS+ over the last 3 years. He peaks out as league average at this point. Casas still has less than 200 PA in his career. Far too early to simply give up and replace him with mediocrity…
  6. In theory, you have to REALLY HIT to be a DH. In Oakland and Pitt and KC, you just need to be willing to work cheap…
  7. That’s a good example. The most likely outcome for Enmanuel Valdez is a brief MLB career cut short by a lack of defensive position. Maybe he can catch on as a DH with Oakland or Pittsburgh or some other team where the most important baseball skill is the ability to cash league minimum paychecks and stick around a bit longer. As insanely tough as hitting is, it only gets you so far. Nowadays it seems like the ability to hit could be compared to be physically attractive - it gets attention and gets you in the door. But if you want to stay there better be more going on…
  8. Not even remotely true. AAA always has more than its share of bats that can’t use a glove. Jordan Walker just became another one, at least for now. Isn’t it?
  9. Why is last year’s cost out the door? They knew he was injured when they signed him, and if he wasn’t injured, in no way do they get him so cheap…
  10. Story’s arm got worse, but StatCast still had him throwing harder than Gold Glover Dansby Swanson.
  11. Think they DFA Paxton after all the time and money invested? Plus he’s an experienced starting pitcher - which is their weakness. Kluber might have been DFAd if not for his last outing, but at least that would have been for performance. I’d guess if Paxton returns, one of Houck, Whitlock or Pivetta goes to the pen until Paxton (or another SP, but probably Paxton) gets injured. Bernardino would get demoted and Ort somehow survives again…
  12. AAA is also where many teams stash the 26-36 spots on their roster…
  13. In the rare event everyone is healthy, Bello will be in Worcester. Not sure who goes to the bullpen, but I’m fine with sending anyone if it means demoting Ort…
  14. I’d be ok with Hamilton at 2b, but that definitely keeps Kike at SS, especially with the way Duran is hitting…
  15. As opposed to leading the league in infield errors? Not sure that’s a step down. Plus he has 70 speed; he can run across the diamond and simply hand the ball to Casas. Are IL hitters racking up infield hits to Hamilton? I honestly don’t know…
  16. So you think the Sox are going to pay Paxton $14mill since last year just to rehab and release him?
  17. I don’t think it’s so much being swayed by his hot start as it is needing a SS and Hamilton is the last man standing. He’s already on the 40 man. He’s already 25 years old. Not like they’re going to “ruin his development”. Either he’s a major leaguer or he isn’t, and right now is a good time to find out…
  18. The Sox, like most teams, will probably need 10 or so starting pitchers this year. They’re keeping Bello where he is for depth, which is the same reason Kluber has not been DFAd. This isn’t about Bello “needing to work” on anything; this is about demoting the guy with options so you can keep everyone…
  19. Well, even after Sort went down, they had Kike and Chang in line. My question is - if you don’t like Hamilton enough to play him, why is he on the 40 man roster? Sure there was fear he might get taken in the Rule 5 draft, but who cares if he isn’t good enough to play?
  20. But if you know it’s a hitter friendly stadium, shouldn’t every MLB GM also be aware that any increase is likely just PCL Stadium Fluff and be somewhat less impressed?
  21. It’s no longer a choice. Ort is clearly an addiction…
  22. He’s going to report to El Paso. That beach is a 4,000 hour trip by rollerblade…
  23. Get a healthy relief guy!!! Also, how on Earth do the PADRES sign Jose Iglesias!?! Dodgers? Makes sense. Red Sox? Clear need. Pirates? Good fit. But the Padres? Already the most shortstop-infested roster ever!! He will just step in and be like 14th on the depth chart. (That’s not hyperbole.) Never mind the Padres, what was Iglesias thinking?
  24. You probably didn’t know, but that year, WAFL was the biggest topic at StatiCon, the world’s largest conference dedicated to static. And eliminating its cling from your laundry. And Felipe Lopez’ laundry…
  25. Ort never misses bats of any type, be it vampire, fruit, or wom…
