If the Yankees deal IKF to the Sox, it’s going to be to clear salary. The Yankees won’t want any Sox player they need to add to the 40 man. Most likely, the Sox would get IKF, his $6mill salary, and a prospect not on the 40 man. I named Coleman and Carela as possibilities, but I don’t know how either organization views either of them. And the Yankees might get back a lesser prospect who doesn’t need to be added to the 40 man. And then the Yankees go with one of the kids at shortstop and use the money for a LF like Profar…

The 2021 Sox were absolutely in it at the deadline, and they added Schwarber, Robles and Austin Davis. There was no real question about whether or not they should be buyers or sellers. The problem was they kept getting connected to names like Scherzer and Berrios and kept coming up short or were just not in the running for those bigger names. Heck the biggest add turned out to be Schwarber, but even he was in the Injured List at the time and didn’t make his Sox debut for a couple weeks. But just adding Robles and Davis was a bare minimum of enough pitching, apparently. And that was the big difference between the 2021 and 2022 deadlines because in the latter they didn’t add a single arm to the staff, and they wound up needing pitching badly especially since they wound up losing both Eovaldi and Houck…

They still won 92 games and made a good run in the postseason. Why should the last 9 games carry a much weight as the first 153?

I’d be fine with OPS+. While Yoshida is Bogaerts’ replacement in the lineup, it’s only monetarily. He will play a different position, hit in a different spot in the order, and play a different overall role in the offense…

The funny thing is the optimists and the pessimists aren’t disagreeing wildly about this team. The optimists just think they’ll be better than last year’s 78 win team. The pessimists think they’ll win fewer games. But I bet most people would agree in a 75-85 win range…

I’d give up Dalbec for IKF. I don’t think Peralta is all that available. Maybe the Sox can squeak a lesser sleeper prospect to take IKF and his salary off NY’s hands. At best, it might be a Carson Coleman or Juan Carela. No one even approaching their top 20, but not useless players either. I suppose maybe the Yankees might be willing to include 23yo Deivi Garcia before his value completely evaporates…

It does so to negate defense. Even weak contact gets the defense involved. But average exit velocity from a pitcher would be nice to incorporate somewhere…

I agree the Sox had to climb over more teams was difficult, but the Phillies only clinched at game 161, and even then, looked like a team simply not built for a postseason run. What I liked about that team is they totally killed any myth about a team being “not built for the postseason.” There is no such thing, despite that you will hear it every year, even from the talking heads on the radio and TV…

You’re reading comprehension sucks. The guarding the lines thing was me saying I didn’t like the banning of a defensive strategy (referring to the shift) and equated it to banning another defensive strategy (guarding the lines). The Turner thing was a joke about the Sox trying to devalue Devers by making him a DH, which actually satirized the actual original negotiation the Sox made by offering Devers a contract similar to Matt Olson’s. See, Olson isn’t a 3b and plays a less important defensive position. The exaggeration in the satire was to drop Devers all the way down to the least important defensive role. It’s not only childish that you constantly repeat this in an attempt to discredit other people, but it’s truly sad and ironic that you actually think it’s the other people you think it makes look stupid…

It’s easy to say now they were never going to be the Phillies, but let’s not ignore no one expected the Phillies to do what they did either. The talk of them before the postseason was that they were the least “built for the postseason.” They had 2 reliable starting pitchers, no closer, a bullpen that struggled all year long, and quite possibly the worst defensive corner outfield duo since Albert Belle and Manny Ramirez were teammates. What did that team have to bank on for their postseason run?

Kluber vs Lopez comes down to if you like fWAR or bWAR Kluber was worth 3.0 fWAR but only 0.7 bWAR. (1.9 FUBAR) Lopez was worth 2.8 fWAR and 3.0 bWAR (2.9 FUBAR) Of course, with Kluber you get to keep Casas. I can see either option…
