  1. And only open up one roster spot for the replacement. Pitcher? Hitter? Which one do you replace?
  2. From a guy who doesn’t like Devers…
  3. Don’t blame me. Blame Bloom. I don’t get to make the moves…
  4. Then he’s the perfect target if the Sox have a series against your kid and his friends…
  5. Snell. I’m going with the Bloom Connection…
  6. Ohtani at least has a built in Plan B. He might have arm issues that prevent him from pitching, but unlike Sale, that might not render him useless. Of course there is the delicate balance of determining whether or not swinging a bat hinders any pitching arm recovery…
  7. I think the Sox at least have a tie breaker for Yamamoto, as he was Yoshida’s teammate in Japan. Of course, they have to be involved in a tie for it to matter. This does operate on the assumption that Yoshida and Yamamoto actually liked each other. Or at least didn’t hate each other. And that certainly could be the case…
  8. The Angels need midfielders? Are they switching to soccer? Can we convince them Kluber is a helluva goalie?
  9. Well, he’s had 3 drafts from which he has signed players. And Drohan has certainly moved along quite nicely…
  10. Been doing this, too. I do admit when stumped, I have a few well-travelled players to try, including Edwin Jackson, Octavio Dotel, Rickey Henderson, Chad Gaudin, Mike Morgan, Claudell Washington, Nelson Cruz…
  11. With the Guardians in first place, a decision whether or not to deal Bieber is a bit of a quandary…
  12. There was a lot of talk about Davis sticking, too, once Robo Umps eliminated his pitch-framing weakness…
  13. His 11.1 K/9 is noteworthy. Is 26yo Thad Ward a high upside or low upside reliever?
  14. Worst case is you hope the bat plays elsewhere. Henry Davis has caught all of 1 inning so far…
  15. What if he’s “just” Mike Zunino?
  16. Exactly how do we get 1,000 minor leaguers on to a 40 man roster? Industrial-sized Nutri-Bullet?
  17. Sox might have lost Wallace in the Rule 5 draft without making that deal…
  18. It’s not an offer; it’s a blogger’s opinion. I plugged it into BTV and my phone actually laughed at me. Mayer alone has more trade value than 2 months of Ohtani. The deal involves the Red Sox giving up $153mill in surplus value to acquire a player with $57mill in surplus value. Using the BTV system, a fair offer for Ohtani would be Bello and Bleis. Or Casas and Rafaela plus a lesser piece. And I don’t expect either of those to happen…
  19. College pitchers are to more likely to sign, as they have fewer options available. The Carter Stewart Plan of seeking opportunities in Japan in lieu of the minors is likely to remain a very obscure minority…
  20. Or a Kumar Rocker…
  21. But…. Bat Marnes.. wasn’t exactly lighting it up out there. He pitched 3 of the Sox first 6 extra IP games and allowed 4ER plus 3 ghost runners to score and lasted all of 2 innings. I would have been ok using Bat Marnes against the bottom of the order, like he did against Anaheim (who absolutely crushed him). But Cora kept using him against the middle of the order in these situations. And maybe Cora would have had other options if not for the foolish piggyback strategy on Houck…
  22. I’d be surprised if Cora had no input. But how much is another matter. This does have to be a group effort…
