  1. So… not Duvall…
  2. Batting Devers second gets him 18 more PA on average. It might not seem like much but Devers’ plate appearances are good to maximize. The #3 spot is the most likely hitter to come up with 2 outs and no one on base. Obviously it’s not a place to dump a mediocre hitter, because the 3 spot still gets lots of plate and should have a fair amount of RBI opportunities, but it’s not the ideal location for Devers. Not really sure who I would bat there (and absolutely no idea who Cora would). I also liked the idea of Yoshida at leadoff since the Sox haven’t had a good leadoff hitter since Betts. Cora probably sticks with Kike there, which seems like a bad idea that he just keeps trying…
  3. I wouldn’t call it “judicious,” but I will say it want blatantly stupid…
  4. Probably why he didn’t couple his spending with draining the farm. At some point, minimum wage talent -even marginal talent - will be a necessity for that team…
  5. And raised in isolation, away from prying eyes who seek only to exploit and destroy it…
  6. Fits the bill but not on the 40 man. Now if Rodriguez is headed for the 60 Day IL, maybe…
  7. Even there… https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Kessel_Run/Legends
  8. Joely Rodriguez is now hurt - oblique strain. Soxprospects thinks this puts Winckowski on the 26 man, and maybe it does. But it’s also possible Brandon Walter benefits, as Bleier is now the only LHRP…
  9. A parsec is a unit of distance, not time…
  10. Are you saying he should be just as sharp as he was 3 years ago? And he might be in great shape physically - a fairly safe assumption. But that doesn’t mean he can go out and pitch a game without wearing down.
  11. They existed before because the formula for a dynasty was one-two superstar(s) plus good supporting cast. The cap they implemented allowed for teams to more easily maintain that…
  12. Plus my daughter thinks Vazquez has type 3 albanism based on his headshot. She also -again, diagnosing solely from his headshot - thinks Seattle RHP Matt Brash has Sanfilippo Syndrome…
  13. The NBA cap actually permits and creates dynasties, since teams can sign their own superstars for more than other teams can. The NFL doesn’t do that but certainly has ways to promote teams keeping their own, like franchise tags. But unlike the NBA, NFL players seems to hate that. But then NFL salary rules and structures don’t appear to follow rules of any known branch of mathematics. The NBA isn’t much better. The NFL does position itself for more roster turnover than other sports because -Tom Brady aside - careers can be insanely short. Tough to build a dynasty when there will be 40 new faces within 5 years…
  14. That would run counter if anyone cared about hockey….
  15. In some respects whoever said that was probably right; Song could probably out-push-up everyone in MLB. The problem is that doesn’t necessarily translate to throwing 100+ pitches with control and command…
  16. Oddly the cap seems to have had the opposite effect of what was intended. Or at the very least, has made zero difference. Look at the NBA. Since they re-installed the cap in 1984, only 11 different teams have won a title. That stretch covers 38 seasons. In capless MLB, you only have to go back to 2008 to find 11 different World Series Champions…
  17. I thought the Walrus was Thurman Munson…
  18. Injuries are not the fault of the medical staff. Do you blame your doctor when you get sick?
  19. No. His Rule 5 status follows him to any claiming team. Boston doesn’t need to put in a claim at all, since if he clears, he is returned to their minor league system…
  20. I can see that. So back to what I said the day he was selected - Philly will either complete a trade for him or return him…
  21. It would be a first if the Sox did that, but I don’t think the 26 man roster provision is enforceable if he were theoretically traded to Boston. If Boston - and only Boston - trades for Song, I would think that ends his Rule 5 status. That said, Boston is far more likely to trade him away to Philly than to trade for him this year…
  22. … unless he’s already waived by then..
  23. Maybe he meant the “Incredible List”?
  24. How many incredibly wealthy people who don’t need more money decide to just stop? Not many people in the USA are wealthier than Mark Cuban, yet he’s still out there every week on Shark Tank looking for more invest opportunities and always basing his decision on the financial status of the candidates’ proposals. As do all the other wealthy sharks on that show, but Cuban in particular stands out because his net worth is greater than all the other sharks combined. He’s wealthy even among the wealthy!! And yet he’s still making his decisions based on dollars and cents! So I’m not 100% on board that comparative pauper John Henry isn’t concerned about the money. He didn’t get rich enough to purchase ownership stakes in multiple MLB franchises over the years by not worrying about money…
  25. Of course most teams already passed on him once, likely because of his prolonged hiatus…
