  1. No. That would create an endless cycle. Four years from now, the team would need another Bloom Clone to rebuild the farm and wrangle in control of the payroll for a few years…
  2. He made some stupid moves and some moves that didn’t work out. That’s part of the job. Any GM that never makes a mistake is a GM that didn’t make enough moves. The good thing about Bloom is even his worst moves only impacted one season…
  3. It’s not about embracing the truth. They told us players coming back were their re-enforcements. It wasn’t like they were dishonest about it. If anything, Bloom put his cards on the table far too often. I just want the GM/CBO to not give up while not being stupid. Although at the very least, he can’t be afraid to make a stupid move once in a while…
  4. And despite the lip service, how the team is going to be run. I mean people have been complaining about Bloom lying for the last 4 years. (Was he dishonest? Or overly optimistic?) The rest of the team carrying his message is still at &Fenway.
  5. I was heading “no chance” on trading Mayer and Rafaela yesterday. The odds are increasing. I’d put the chances of signing Yamamoto alone below 5%, let alone as part of a pairing with Nola…
  6. With 8 man bullpens, innings don’t matter like they used to. And there is also a danger in signing for innings…
  7. What would you say is more likely? 1. The Sox deal Mayer and Rafaela for pitching. 2. The Sox sign both Yamamoto and Nola.
  8. BTV takes into account length of contract and weighs the money against projected WAR value. The reportedly use multiple sites for their projections. It’s like what harmony does, but without the part where he reports only the one source that makes Sox prospects look bad
  9. Last time you were super confident and challenged me on wagering the likelihood of both Wacha and Eovaldi getting hurt. And then both went down within a week or so. Plan on jinxing yourself again?
  10. Sort of like saying “just go win the lottery”…
  11. They do periodic adjustments. At one point he was among the AL batting leaders with 5+ years of control. I doubt hegoes negative. At least not down to -12…
  12. … and purposely dumped tobacco spit on his own infant…
  13. Hardly. What if the new front office values Mayer and a few others less than Bloom did? Or decides Story has SS for the next 4 years? Or really, really likes Peralta?
  14. Totally depends on who they hire and what his budget is…
  15. And if Milwaukee insist on Rafaela?
  16. SP: Peralta (for Mayer/Rafaela) SP: Gray SP: Bello SP: Crawford SP: Sale/Pivetta (when Sale is out due to getting struck by a meteor or from a nasty narwhal bite or whatever) CL: Jansen RP: Martin RP: Winckowski RP: Houck RP: Whitlock RP: Schreiber RP: Bernardino RP: Pivetta (FA or MiLB call up for Sale injury) C: Wong 1b: Devers/Casas 2b: Urias 3b: Chapman SS: Story LF: Yoshida CF: Duran RF: Verdugo DH: Casas/Devers BN: McGuire BN: Reyes BN: Refsnyder BN: (Defensive CF - maybe Taylor?) Not wild about the OF defense in LF and CF. But it is a step up overall. If you don’t like this lineup, good news. Less than 1% chance of it happening…
  17. And throw in a Peralta with his 3.34 FIP…
  18. Last 3 years Gray 3.34 FIP Nola 3.35 FIP Snell 3.38 FIP That’s also the way I would expect to rank their contracts, starting with the cheapest…
  19. Ok worth pointing out Nola does possess a 3.35 FIP over that span. But over the same period of time, Sonny Gray has a 3.34 FIP. Gray will certainly be more expensive than what I would expect, but he will definitely be less expensive than Nola. Take Gray over Nola…
  20. I hope the Sox don’t go all in for two top tier pitchers this off-season. The short term rewards might be favorable, but at some point it absolutely with 100% certainly will become Price-Sale redux. And next thing the Sox will be pawning off Roman Anthony in a trade just to entice some team to take on Blake Snell’s contract…
  21. Not wild about Nola. I think he’s overrated. He certainly eats innings (567 IP and counting over the last 3 years), but his ERA+ over that span is 101. Granted, that a Philly defense isn’t doing him any favors…
  22. I am not so sure. Snell is 30 years old and his resume could include two Cy Young awards in the past 6 seasons. And he’s hitting free agency at a time when teams are extending deals to reduce AAV. I wouldn’t have put Brandon Nimmo down for 8 years last year at this time either.
  23. Not to mention what happens 5 years from now when these pitchers need to be replaced by new “aces” but can’t be moved because they still have 5 years $150mil left on their deals…
  24. Roughly the same as Boston has with either individual…
  25. And he didn’t have a Spring Training in 2022 either…
