  1. I think he meant they gave him a promotional coupon for a free chips and soda with a purchase of a large sub at Jersey Mike’s. Limited time offer. But his phone battery died mid—sentence..
  2. If you like, Story’s 0.2 fWAR was still better than Tim Anderson’s (-0.5), equal to Amed Rosario’s, and worse than Javier Baez (0.8). Of course all of them did so in over three times the amount of playing time. Rosario would likely be markedly cheaper. But Anderson and Baez, if available, are not guaranteed to be. If the Sox make him available, Story is absolutely tradable to a SS-needy team…
  3. Yoshida had a 109 OPS+ his rookie year. Same as Hideki Matsui. Hopefully he can carve out a similar career…
  4. Javier Baez could also opt out. But he was only worth 0.7bWAR. Amed Rosario - also 0.7 bWAR. Story is tradable. Just depends if the Sox and the new boss want to…
  5. Hard disagree. Story was worth 0.8 bWAR after only 168 PA. The best free agent (if his option is not exercised) is Tim Anderson, who was worth -2.0bWAR with over 500PA. Think former batting champ Anderson can be had for less than 4 years $93mill?
  6. Never say that. It always can
  7. Hey he quit in August 1st and I followed suit…
  8. They basically brought back the same team in 2012. But with Cody Ross!! Cherington finally broke it up with the Dodger trade in August of 2012 and then won a World Series 14 months later…
  9. He’s trying to rub in that Bloom failed and completely missing that not one single person seems to be even the least bit upset that Bloom is gone…
  10. Right not Story’s contract looks like a steal, assuming he can stay on the field. Given the mediocre free agent market, he’s actually tradable. (San Fran?)
  11. Actually the old system allowed for a team signing a free agent to lose their first round pick, but the team that lost the free agent gained two picks. So Epstein did things like let Orlando Cabrera walk and signed his rough equivalent (and friend) Edgar Renteria from St. Louis. The Cardinals got the Sox first round pick (with which they selected Colby Rasmus), but when Cabrera signed with the Angels, the Sox got their first rounder plus a sandwich pick, and used them (I believe) to draft Ellsbury and Lowrie. Epstein’s exploitation of this rule appeared to cause a revision in the whole draft compensation system…
  12. He also really only got the job because Luhnow was fired after the cheating scandal. In that respect, he might like Cora. Of course, he also might be leery of the PR in a reunion. It does appear the Sox aren’t…
  13. Yes he maneuvered. But not in the way we as Sox fans were used to. He couldn’t keep Betts and get under the tax line (and Betts’ willingness to sign seems up in the air). And his biggest expenditure was Trevor Story, whose contract seemed large until one year later when you realize it fell far short of Brandon Nimmo…
  14. How far over it were they?
  15. And he got fired right after. That means he’s also Dombrowski 2.0!!
  16. I think both were fired for not being Epstein. Ever since the break up, Henry has been hiring CBOs based on their Epsteinability. He misses the winning record. He misses the burgeoning farm. He misses that little look Theo gave him over his shoulder. You know the one. And so far - faint copies. Henry will never admit he misses Theo. That the break up did no one any good. But it’s obvious Henry misses him dearly and that his torch still burns. After all, he still wears the ring Theo gave him. In 2004. And also the one from 2007…
  17. First of all, simply assuming changes will be beneficial is advocating for change for the sake of change. So what do you think DD would have done? I’ve asked you many times he would have gotten out of the mess, and you have repeatedly ducked the question. Bear in mind, I’m not asking what he would have done; I’m just asking what you think he would have done. It’s not an unanswerable question. On the contrary, it’s an opinion. (Not a theory, if that helps you.). And please don’t say it adds no value to the discussion. It’s an internet forum. That’s all we do. Nothing you have said in any post has added value. Same goes for me. And everyone else. Except maybe mvp. Maybe. And certainly anyone who could spy on Day One Bloom would not work out and has repeatedly defended Dombrowski must have some sense of how he would have handled the aftermath of 2019. If you’re familiar with his history, use it. What would he have done? Bear in mind any counterarguments are just as unprovable and indefensible. Except one - the simple question “then why was he fired?”
  18. 2020 was an obvious planned punt. The worst thing about that year once it got started (the preseason was horrible) was that Bloom did give up too early on Jeffrey Springs.
  19. He’s Bloom 2.0…
  20. Point? It also makes no sense to assume any change will be beneficial…
  21. It started off going through the pitching changes…
  22. If DD has to trade Betts, I do think he simply takes Graterol. His pitching philosophy has always been simple - radar guns! (That’s not a knock; I’m a fan of flame-throwers, too) That’s my only take on the team if they never fired DD that I have true faith in. Well, that and they wouldn’t be in the postseason without increased spending…
  23. Most teams in 1967 were homegrown. You either came up though the organization or they traded for you. Ah the days of relegation…
  24. Neal Huntington? So MLB experience and a pulse? With experience being optional, I guess…
