  1. You do realize Cora was fired shortly after Bloom was hired, right?
  2. I don’t think Eflin fits this scenario at all. The Sox made an offer. Elfin took it to Tampa. They matched. He signed immediately. This was not a case of Bloom sticking to his “value guns”. He never got the chance to counter. Eflin clearly wanted to play in Tampa, not Boston.
  3. What are you talking about? It’s part of the uniform!
  4. Yeah the “drafted too many shortstops” thing is just flat out wrong. In high school, on roughly 105% of the teams, the SS is simply the best player. Would people be happier if Bloom drafted worse players but did so because they had outfield experience?

Always the worst excuse for poor closer performance…
  6. Bloom brought Cora back right after the suspension…
  7. So if a CBO -let’s say Andrew Friedman - made bringing in his manager a condition of accepting the offer, Henry and Kennedy say “No. Cora is our guy and you go look elsewhere.” I don’t think Cora has any immunity. So far all they are doing is letting him stay for the final year of his contract. Its not like they’ve extended him…
  8. I think it’s possible Cora’s job security has been overstated or misinterpreted. Just because he wasn’t let go with Bloom doesn’t mean he has immunity, and the new CBO is not allowed to change managers…
  9. Agreed. You cannot fire Bloom solely for PR reasons if the goal is to continue to operate the same way. In fact, doing that actually absolves Bloom from blame in the eyes of many. Keeping him around all lows his to retain the blame for another bad season…
  10. Eflin wasn’t really a miss. He clearly wanted to go to Tampa. Saying the Sox only missed out “by a few million” requires knowing how high Tampa was willing to go…
  11. It seemed like Bloom’s mission was to build a sustainable farm. We really won’t know if he has any success or not for a few years. But I’m hoping he was fired for his repeated indecisiveness or apathy or general malaise or whatever lead to his inactivity at the deadline the last two seasons…
  12. Epstein didn’t sign Stephen Drew, but he did sign JD. Cherington signed Stephen. Twice…

Kimbrel had a clear pattern with Boston. Lights out until June/July. Slowly get less effective through August/September. Very hittable in October…
  14. Actually it turns out the Sox staff was more the victims by that kind of thing, as they had the better xFIP of the two. But as long as we’re making silly arguments that prefer 7 game sample sizes over 810 games, maybe the Red Sox had the toughest schedule in MLB because they had to play all those games against the AL East and they didn’t get to play even one game against the Red Sox…
  15. So… Ryan Lavernway over Epstein?
  16. Martin frequently joked publicly about that whole deal. If you watched “The Bronx is Burning”, it was probably (re: extremely likely) an overdramatized version of the story. In fact it was probably (re: extremely likely) overdramatized even if you didn’t watch it…
  17. It did in 1977…
  18. Air Bud 10: CBO - Corgi of Baseball Operations
  19. Arizona’s pitching staff isn’t really all that good. They ranked 22nd in fWAR, 20th in ERA, and 19th in FIP. For comparison, Boston ranked 20th in fWAR, 21st in ERA and 20th in FIP…
  20. Scherzer may have simply reached that point on his career where pitching the bulk of full season leaves him to w worn out for the postseason. He did poorly last year as well…
  21. Aren’t you making the same assumption about Breslow based on his education? Stanford alum Sam Fuld turned down the interview, but isn’t he is the argument for smartest player?
  22. That long ago?
  23. Jon Daniels is lying…
  24. There was a time when most GMs were former players (and that was the only title fans cared about). But nowadays most of them are not. There are still a few. But what team was the last one to win a World Series with a former MLB player heading up the front office?
