  1. He’s been durable. His bWAR has been 2.5 or less 3 of the last 4 years. But did peak at a ridiculous Pedro-esque 9.8 on 2018. His fWAR has been all over the 3 to 6 range each of the last 4 years.

Schwarber would be a horrible shortstop. Almost Kike-level…
  3. There is one with Nola - 3.9 fWAR and 2.1 bWAR. If nothing else, that clearly means he excels in one of the areas that one stat is based on, but clearly not the bases of both. I think at a minimum that merits investigation or hesitation. Hence my overrated comment. I actually prefer fWAR normally, baseball ref loads much easier than Fangraphs on my phone…
  4. Right. The Bloom signing part was fine. The Diekman pitching part was a complete nightmare…

And 42 more than Sale. And we all universally agree on that bargain…

I don’t think their problems begin or end with Cherington…

Do we talk about anything that does?
  8. Are you back on fWAR now? Corey Kluber is itching to know…
  9. Shootout ruined the NHL, where they turned it into a “everybody gets a trophy just for playing” thing…
  10. I go back to the Terry Puhl/Cesar Cedeno/Joaquin Andujar/Floyd Bannister/Jeff Leonard years for Astr likability
  11. Ohtani won’t help the 2024 rotation and DH (especially a left handed one) is not a primary need…

And yet it was still 2 games Out at the August deadline and still win 78 after the “collapse.” This was essentially a .500 team. I think if some Pirates’ fans or A’s fans posted here, they’d scream and cry at the entitlement…
  13. Hitting is only part of the game. Both Duvall and Duran were certainly better offensive players than Kike, but his defense in CF was simple game-changing…
  14. I’m fine with that. He’s good, but overrated…
  15. We’re talking about baseball!! Who said anything about fun?!!

Eovaldi’s problem was never the talent. In 4 years in Boston, he threw 67 IP, 48 IP (60 game season), 182 IP, and 109 IP. A full heartily season from Eovaldi, and you’re looking at the guy who throws the most 98mph fastballs in MLB. That simply cannot be good for his arm. And it hasn’t been to date…
  17. Especially if the dedication to Cora is legit. Who is going to want this job if one of the primary duties is training your replacement?
  18. Free agent bWAR Snell 6.0 Gray 5.3 Nola 2.1 Montgomery 2.1 Lorenzen 1.9 (2.1 with Detroit) Gray will clearly be more expensive than I thought, but even at the same price as Nola, he might be worth it…
  19. Most likely. And probably not Nola nor Yamamoto. More likely Gray or Lorenzen…
  20. Montgomery was worth 2.1 bWAR, which is less than Pivetta (2.4) and Crawford (2.2), a couple pitchers that are not universally accepted as part of the 2024 rotation. The grass is always greener…
  21. If they kept Kike in CF, he might have been worth it. The move to SS simply wasn’t. And we’re still waiting for Mondesi and his anticipated Red Sox debut…
  22. They are trying to figure out better ways to allocate the $10mill Bloom dropped on a player who didn’t work out, probably Kike or Kluber. Let’s see if they forget it was only a one year deal…
  23. They may have already hired and fired two more people…
  24. Reyes really isn’t an everyday player. And just because Tori n need starting pitching didn’t mean ask other positions should absolutely, positively be 100% ignored this off-season. The Sox pitching wasn’t any worse than Arizona’s this past season, yet somehow the Diamondbacks made the NLCS. Pitching tops the list, specially starting pitching. But that doesn’t mean its the only item on it…
  25. First off, apparently Rosario was never a 4 fWAR player. My bad. I misremembered. But he was a 2.7 fWAR player in 2022 and 2.5 fWAR in 2021. Some teams will be turned off by his lackluster 2023, but others might look at more of his recent seasons. He is helped by the lack of free agent shortstops. I think he will do better than $5mill. And if that’s the Sox limit at 2b, simply keeping Urias makes more sense…
