  1. So the Yankees DFAd Kevin Smith, whose calling card is infield defense, including SS. Think Breslow notices?
  2. 1. I did. I blame a faulty keyboard. 2. The proper spelling should have been “rein”, which means “a guiding influence” and is not solely used on animals…
  3. As long as that clipboard is pointed up…
  4. Without an ace?!!!!!!?
  5. Yoshida's OPS one year ago today was .560. So he is at the very least, doing what he did last year at this time. Last year, starting one year ago today, he posted an OPS of .896 over his next 81 games. We need that Yoshida back...
  6. Valdez and Pablo are not exactly desirable trade fodder. They're stopgap solutions filling in for injuries. Valdez shelf-life is directly linked to the return of Grissom, who likely plays second base the bulk of the time, but we shall see if he is not given the occasion/frequent outing at SS. Rafaela is the clear best SS on this team, and probably the best one between Boston and Portland. But since Portland is not supplying a solution anytime soon, I could see him taking SS this year. But Cora has overtly stated his future is in CF, so his play at SS is up in the air right now unfortunately. Especially given that Cora has shown he is fine with giving a long leash to weak defensive shortstops. Add to that O'Neill is out right now, leaving the Sox with only 3 outfielders on the roster, assuming they do not put Yoshida out there. So until O'Neill returns, expect Rafaela in CF. This means the Sox infield is left with juggling Reyes, Valdez and Hamilton because right now, they are all healthy...
  7. For example, Oakland is 7-4 in their last 11 and sits in 4th in the AL West, 1 game behind Seattle and ahead of Houston. Who saw that coming?
  8. I’d take the over at 20, but the under at 30. I think 26.5 is probably the ideal over/under to make me really think about it…
  9. Tomase’s article over Dalbec playing ONE GAME at shortstop was about the biggest overreaction I’ve ever seen. In non-baseball coverage, Gerry “Brain Cell” Callahan did write an endless stream of articles promoting Michael Bishop as the superior option to Drew Bledsoe…
  10. I always liked Houck and Whitlock in the bullpen, but not Crawford. And Houck and Whitlock gave me plenty of evidence to support this. But thanks for calling me out after one good start!!
  11. Well he blew his chance to spend it on a good player in Betts …
  12. To be fair, Mondesi was going to get paid by someone last year. If not the Sox, then the Royals would have had to keep him. We just would have held on to the frequently injured Josh Taylor, who did pitch last year. But so far this year has been out all year…
  13. Largely because the money some on Mondedi, Paxton and Hendricks is infinitesimal compared to what they spent on Sale… Heck the type of Bookmark Deal Hendricks got from Boston has been done around the league for a while now..,
  14. I didn’t compare him to a dog. I just suggested dog safety technology be used to rain him in. You’ll note the sensor was placed in a glove, not a collar. Which brings to an interesting point - had I suggested a Running Man collar, in reference to the Arnold Schwarzeggar/Richard Dawson movie, would that have been acceptable? No dog references, but the same technology caused human heads to explode upon crossing a barrier. Yet because I mentioned a favorite animal, somehow the gentle warming shock is a cruel reference, while the exploding human head is still ok? I mean, the Running Man did take place in a jail, just like you mentioned…
  15. Like that old Bugs Bunny villain - Blacque Jacque Shellaque…
  16. And to make matters worse - Jacques is back...
  17. I just want a name, not a link to the post. I log on here more than I care to admit, and I haven't seen anyone who wanted Whitlock in the rotation. Plenty of people who expected him to be (myself included), but none of them wanted him there...
  18. That's basically it. He wasn't supposed to spend much, and Mookie was rather pricey. And outside of Devers, he really did not. Story and Yoshida were expensive, but these were not upper echelon contracts. And Yoshida was signed in an offseason where 8-12 year deals were being handed out like Halloween candy, and his deal was still only 5 years. Although it will seem longer if he doesn't get hit hitting together. The Sox are still spending near the middle of the pack, but that number will probably drop precipitously. After this year, the only deals on the books with an AAV higher than $6mill will be Devers, Story, Yoshida and Giolito (assuming he does not opt out, which is a very, very unlikely event). And the only players eligible for arbitration after this year are Joely Rodriguez and Reese McGuire. I expect (hope) Rodriguez will be non-tendered, and there is a non-zero chance McGuire is as well, assuming he is not simply traded...
  19. Obviously. Or at least he was given the option of trade him or let him walk via free agency. DD tried to extend Betts. As DD is not one to hold back on negotiations, what Betts wanted/deserved was clearly more than Henry was willing to pay...
  20. Every single person on this board has been saying that. And probably everyone on all the other thousands of Red Sox forums throughout the internet..
  21. Hopefully one or two of them have upward mobility clauses that they exercise on May 1.
  22. He was. But he was the league-required sole team rep. Really all that means is no one on that team was deemed worthy than he was at their respective positions. And he was only worth 1.1 fWAR, seventh on the Sox pitching staff and second among RP. The 1.1 fWAR is also the lowest total of his career nd a far cry from the 3 fWAR seasons he was worth 6-7 years ago. But more important, that was last year. This year, he is most definitely not on pace to be another All Star, with an 9:8 K:BB ratio and one 1-2-3 inning under his belt. Jansen may one day get in the Hall of Fame, but it will not be for what he has done in Boston. Just like how Dwight Evans belongs in the Hall of Fame, but not for what he did in Baltimore...
  23. Apparently not. They are going to force hi to throw all those extra innings until his lifeless body has squeegeed of the field into a small bucket and disposed of accordingly...
  24. Again, 50 games since 2020. If your problem is injuries, Mondesi is not the solution. Just like he wasn’t last year…
