  1. I would assume they want a non-40 man player, so maybe? I was just looking into Walsh, who was pretty good in 2021, but has battled Thoracic Outlet Syndrome since and been awful. Meanwhile Brandon Belt is still unemployed despite coming off a season in which he had a .858 OPS/136OPS+ and 19 HRs…
  2. He was ok a couple years ago with Anaheim. Recently DFAd by Texas, which makes him much easier to acquire for almost any non-prospect
  3. If the Sox ever get healthy, it looks like: C: McGuire/Wong 1b: Casas 2b: Grissom 3b: Devers SS: Rafaela LF: O’Neill CF: Duran RF: Abreu/Refsnyder DH: Yoshida Biggest issue with even getting there appears to be Casas, who might be out for a while…
  4. I’m positive they will NOT move Whitlock out of the rotation, even if Anderson and Criswell combine for 1000 hitless IP between now and Garret’s return…
  5. I am hoping Criswell and/or Anderson can grab rotation spot and convince the Sox to move Whitlock (once healthy) back to the bullpen...
  6. Greg Weissert has been a huge plus so far as well…
  7. Right now, the Sox do not have any position players on their 40 man roster that are not in MLB. They called up minor league journeyman catcher Tyler Heineman once Casas was on the IL, but not because he earned the promotion and not because they needed a catcher; he’s was promoted because there was no one else left…
  8. Probably in full UConn Husky gear…
  9. Abreu will have games where you think he’s a gem, and other games where you think you see why Houston gave him away…
  10. That wasn’t a minor league deal
  11. Not sure why the Sox have this philosophy that you can raid the bullpen for starting pitchers. I thought that was just an annoying Bloom thing, but it seems to continue. All off-season, pitchers like Eric Lauer, Zach Davies, Carlos Carrasco, and Domingo German, among others , signed minor league deals with other teams. Per sportrac, 30 starting pitchers signed MiLB deals. None with Boston.
  12. I just said “three starters”…
  13. And the Astros GM wanted him even more
  14. Finally!! I am so f***ing sick of posts about the 1945 Detroit Tigers!! Eddie Mayo sucked!!
  15. Gloves cost money…
  16. Giolito. How soon we forget…
  17. A little over a week ago someone posted a Sox lineup and called it the worst of all time. I forget who, but clearly not a visionary. This lineup looks non-competitive in the International League. Heck, I’m not sure this lineup could compete in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen…
  18. Heineman is the only position player left on the 40 man roster. He’s not officially “called up”; he’s just traveling with the team until they know the story with Casas. But if Casas did go on the IL, Dalbec plays 1b, Reyes at 3b and Valdez at 2b. Wong does have experience at 2b and 3b, if needed…
  19. I’d love it if the Sox kept Betts, especially over oft-injured Story and TBD Yoshida. But it’s not like it was an an either/or. Once Betts wasn’t retained, I’m just happy they spent the money at all…
  20. But where does Tom Brunansky rank?
  21. I am impressed this team is hanging in there considering they’re missing 3 starting pitchers and 5 infielders…
  22. I’m not defending Bloom; I’m pointing out the reality. Players sign for the total value, not the AAV. When the Yankees tried to sign Judge to a 14 year deal, it wasn’t Judge who objected; it was MLB. Judge signed; he didn’t care. He was getting the same money. Ohtani deferred the bulk of his money to lower his AAV because, hey, think he cares if he gets his $700mill a few years later. He’s still getting $700mill. AAV matters to the team, especially as the approach tax limits. Players want the total commitment…
  23. You don’t get out. This isn’t a Bloom thing; this is a basic math thing. You’re arguing that $255mill over 11 seasons is equal to $360mill over 12 seasons. But at least you took your own advice on cutting the snarky comments…
  24. Again. No. Story and Yoshida combine for $255mill. Mookie signed for $360mill. That’s a big difference. Mookie didn’t sign for the AAV; he signed for the $360mill guaranteed… The Sox could have signed him, but no agreement was reachable.
  25. Those are two separate stories, despite your sad attempts to combine them. You sound desperate to turn the story into Bloom choosing Story and Yoshia over Mookie and making up math that fits. And above all, making sure Dombrowski is cleared from not signing Mookie. But the reality is Story and Yoshida combine for $255mill, far short of the $360mill it took to sign Mookie. This includes Yoshida’s posting fee, but not luxury taxes signing Mookie would have incurred. Dombrowski had multiple years to extend him and failed to do so. From what has been said, Mookie didn’t seem remarkably eager to extend, so I don’t think this was Dombrowski’s fault. I’m sure he went as high as he was allowed. But it didn’t look like Mookie wanted it to happen at whatever that limit was…
