  1. On talent? No. But Arroyo would be a minimum wage player for 3 years, which is worth a lot…
  2. Or waiting for some teams to have the inevitable pitching injuries that make other players more available all of the sudden…
  3. You say “called” in the past tense as if he ever stopped…
  4. By who? We gave up a nobody who since that trade has played as many MLB games as me…
  5. Joe Nathan Trevor Hoffman Rafael Betancourt
  6. You’re right. He pitched 3.1 IP in relief for the Giants. But he still changed roles mid-season, and that might have impacted. Even if it’s didnt,he still only gave Boston 19 IP last year and Thsts not exactly a significant sample size. He can certainly bounce back…
  7. The thing is, agents counter all the time with fake offers in hopes of getting teams to bid against themselves. Boras was using that exact strategy on the Yankees with Bellinger while he was trying to get Breslow to up his bid. Sometimes it’s real, but sometimes it’s just a blatant lie to get more money and even then it probably works. No idea how often. Breslow had no way of knowing if it was real or not. Hes probably dealt with this exact same tactic from Boras before The good part is at least they pivoted to Suarez and landed him. If they signed Bregman, that probably doesn’t happen. So, yes he failed to land Bregman because he chose not to bid against himself. Is that a bad thing? And he wound up with a pretty good Plan B almost immediately. Is that a bad thing? Not sure why tjis is an issue at all…
  8. I was, back before he signed with Minnesota. But not this off-season, no..
  9. The point is Refsnyder was a lousy outfielder and Cora kept running him out there regardless. I’m glad he stopped trying to make Arroyo one and I hope if he tries to put Romy out there, he doesn’t just hope it pans out and keep trying it until it does…
  10. That Sox fans are desperate to dump Hicks AFTER EIGHTEEN INNINGS PITCHED in a season in which he not only switched teams, but switched roles and then barely got a chance to adjust might rank as the biggest snap judgement Ive seen on here in a while. Hicks has had a good career as a RP. Keep him in that role. Is he really even overpaid? He makes $12.5 mill this season. Former Red Sox washout Brad Keller just signed for $11mill AAV. Trading Hicks is probably a bad move, especially if you’re using him to reduce what you get back for topflight players…
  11. 17 times? OMFG! Thats hardly in the same category as Refsnyder, and if Cora puts Romy in RF 17 times and then gives up, I don’t think it’s a disaster either…
  12. And they might. Coulombe is probably the most intriguing option left, and all things considered is extremely surprising to still be available. Unless he really wants serious cash…
  13. Only a few times. He probably put Christian Vazquez at 2b about that often. While I’m not a fan of these weird one-off defensive alignments, Theyre not in the same category as putting Refsnyder in RF, which Cora clearly viewed as an acceptable weak side platoon defensive option…
  14. Fair point. I’m hoping Cora learned from that…
  15. So far this off-season, the Sox have all but completely ignored the bullpen, with the biggest additions being Ryan Watson and Tyler Samaniego. I could see adding maybe a Danny Coulombe into the mix., if you consider that spending. One reason for the slow activity could be that the Sox are not close to adding anyone that they feel is a significant upgrade over the current 40 man roster, so there’s no one they want to DFA. If so, maybe they are on hold until such a time as Houck can be placed on the 60 day IL..
  16. I’d probably accept him. I accepted Bregman, after all. But I would feel dirty about accepting Framber, if that eases my conscience…
  17. The Mets acquisition of Luis Robert likely lessened their interest in trading for outfielders. At one point this year they were trading away Brandon Nimmo after all. Plus all acquiring Freddy Peralta did was temporarily upgrade their SP to a lesser grade of s*****. So maybe that’s higher on their priority list…
  18. Romy likely platoons with Hamilton or Yoshida (if Yoshida starts). Not sure Romy’s 110 career OF innings make him a viable option for RF at Fenway…
  19. My baseball nut daughter’s theory is Framber really hurt himself by throwing at his own catcher…
  20. Not to mention, Yoshida is probably a better DH than Suarez. Unless all you care about is home runs…
  21. Not until teams start seeing pitching injuries and get desperate. Also it might help if Framber, Gallen and Bassett get signed…
  22. Sox are much better off keeping Yoshida than dumping quality players to unload him. A deal for Baty would probably be something simple like Bello for Baty. At this point, Sox are probably going to maintain status quo until ST games begin, and if someone else has a pitching injury that gets them desperate, maybe we see a deal…
  23. ,Youre moving the goalposts. There is a difference between stashing a player for depth and demoting a player because he hasn’t “forced his way on to an MLB roster”…
  24. Shaw did look pretty good at the plate after his recall, and his second half OPS was an impressive .839. Add that he is a very solid defender…
  25. Baty has decent range but not much for an arm. He’s a good 2b candidate…
