    How exactly did the FO handle it badly? Casas got hurt and they needed a new 1b for the next game. Not exactly a lot of prep time for that speech. It shouldn’t have taken more than “Triston is hurt bad and we don’t know when he’ll be back. You make the most sense to take his place.” And Devers was justified with “do they want me to play every position?” And “it’s [Breslow’s] job to go get someone”? What am I missing here?

    Only Schmidt and Steer are from teams likely to be sellers. Some of others might, but theyre all too close to call. Pitt is already trying to buy from Boston, for example. Steer figures to be more likely available than Schmidt, who is in the midst of a breakout season in an aging Giants’ infield. Not many obvious sellers, and teams like the Royals, Athletics and Mets have no obvious players they’d deal. The Angels have Jo Adell and Jorge Soler they could part with. The Padres are probably on the buy/sell fence but will give you Jake Cronenworth in exchange for a simple “please”. If they sell, Ty France is likely available as well. KC has nothing. Colorado never seems to make deadline deals. There are no useful Mets’ bats to be had. From this list, Steer is my personal favorite. Now what Cincy wants for him is another matter. Ty France might be the next best…

    Has an unwillingness to take a loss on a trade really been their issue? Sale, Harrison, Tibbs for example. At some point, they shouldn’t just give players away either…

    1. Red Sox first 9-0 road trip since 1977. 2. Sox have swept 4 of the last 5 series. That’s crazy.

    Cincinnati can build a lineup without Steer, who has no regular position. But some of that will be traded this year or depart as a free agent (Suarez, Lowe). Of course at some point, Romy Gonzalez becomes a RHH platoon option for DH. If the Sox want to add a bat, it seems like LF is the best spot at least until Roman returns. Other options include SS, at least until Story returns, and catcher, which is very unlikely since most teams don’t bring in new catchers mid-season. (Although Sean Murphy is likely available and can be a RHH DH.)

    Yes but apparently he is more easily hit early in his appearances. So he does better when he starts off with lesser hitters. Especially ones less familiar with him. I find it odd this is questionable, but you throw out the phrase “mental issues” and it’s universally accepted. If someone can explain their mental theories, I’m all for it. But at some point, Bello has his own first inning, and there is no avoiding that. I also think it’s not a coincidence that the teams that lit him up in the first are Baltimore, Toronto and Baltimore again…

    You took it too literally. I actually said “7-8-9” or 8-9-1 hitters.” The bottom line is the opener strategy coupled with inefficient openers often got him out of tougher parts of the lineup. Couple that with the fact that his first inning troubles were often limited to AL East opponents, and it gets easier to notice his problems were not mental nor mechanical but rather situational…

    Coulombe had a $75,000 appearance bonus he earned at games 30, 45, 60. His last appearance was number 29. He wasn’t solely cut to save $75,000; he was cut because he’s not worth the appearance bonuses. I base this on the fact that he was kept beyond his roster bonuses of $250,000 for 30 days on the roster, with others kicking in at 60, 90, 120 and 150 days. Coulombe won’t be on waivers long. Sox are down one spot on the 40 man…

    I do think at some point innings limits for Tolle and especially Bennett do become a factor. Bringing Bello back and having Sandoval might mitigate these concerns…
