  1. You’re predicting something that already happened? Not sure that’s how predictions work…
  2. Yeah it’ll be awful watching all those pitches get blocked…
  3. Helsley was never part of the deal and the Cardinals have said they’re not moving him. And they probably won’t until late July…
  4. It’s never proven helpful to a team beyond maybe enhancing the occasional fWAR of the player. The problem with these versatile guys is they don’t always excel at every position they try. Now more 2-way players? I think teams are going to try that. Or want to, as it can increase the number of available arms. The problem is, MLB has added rules that inhibit it. (For example, is it using a position player to pitch?). Of course if said position player is a superstar DH, MLB went all out of its own way to create rules to help him…
  5. Trent Dilfer isn’t the only mediocre QB to win a Super Bowl. And Jeff Hostetler and Brad Johnson, while both backed by very good defenses, were not backed by historically great defenses. Any championship team in any sports excels in at least one aspect of the game. I agree mediocrity never gets rings, but there’s no magic formula beyond that…
  6. More of it? This has been the Rays’ game plan for what? 15 years now?
  7. Steroids are used medically to reduce inflammation and promote healing of certain injuries. If so, it could reduce injury or injury time for some players
  8. Why would Taylor Ward be an underwhelming addition? He had a .873 OPS vs LHP last year, has excellent range and a strong throwing arm, and is capable of playing either corner outfield position. And he’s a decent hitter, too. I like the idea. His biggest issue is he only has one year of control left…
  9. Why? He either stays healthy and then after year one he then bolts. (He might bolt even after struggling, depending on a few factors.) Or he gets injured during year one and you have 6 more years of dead money. Best hope is he struggles for year one and doesn’t opt out, and instead turns it around like Beckett did
  10. One factor is the increase in injuries could be that steroids are no longer as widespread as they used to be…
  11. He certainly does. Despite my prediction the Sox will eventually be the “someone” that signs Bregman, 2b seems like the least of their issues due to the depth of options. Even if Grissom, Hamilton, etc. dont pan out, they at least have Campbell.
  12. That’s why we dealt Sale. Are we back to labeling every player coming off an injury as “injury-prone”? I mean, with the obvious exception of 2020, Devers hasn’t had fewer that 600 PA in a season since 2018. And is Grissom really “injury prone”?
  13. They’re all options. But the Sox clearly saw something in Grissom that they felt made him worth taking on money in the Sale trade. And Atlanta saw enough in Grissom that they spent include him in that trade unless Boston paid up. Unless they sign Bregman (still in play), Grissom is the likeliest member of the Sox organization to get first crack at 2b…
  14. Or - crazy thought here - they could start the year with Casas (1b), Grissom (2b), Devers (3b) and Story (SS) with Yoshida at DH… It can happen with minimal transactions!!
  15. Detroit does have Jace Jung for 3b, so I can see them stepping out. Toronto just can’t seem to get anyone to go there any more. They’re like the Topeka KS Tourism Bureau…
  16. They’ve demoted him in the past, partly due to poor outfield defense. If they can swap Arenado for a RF, maybe 3b is back in play? Did they move him to the OF because of poor hot corner defense, the presence of Arenado, or both?
  17. Really it comes down to do you prefer short term success from Bregman and live with the reduced production on the back nine? Or go get Arenado and jump right into the reduced production on the back nine?
  18. Is it that Japanese players prefer the west coast? Or that west coast teams prefer Japanese players more so than other teams. We’ve all send plenty of Japanese players sign elsewhere, often eschewing west coast alternatives…
  19. I only saw one objection to taking back Yoshida, made by some random individual who goes by harmony55. If Boston sent Yoshida, Abreu, and some cash, I’m not so sure St. Louis, whose RF tandem of Alex Burleson and Jordan Walker ranked among MLB’s worst defensive combinations at that position, I’m not as convinced St. Louis balks. They save nearly $20mill in the difference in the contracts, plus anything Boston includes, and they save whatever it would take to upgrade RF to a respectable defensive position. This deal would also likely break BTV in their favor. Sure they could hold out in favor of a deal in which a team sends back an even lesser contract, but if no such deal emerges and Boston moves on, St. Louis will be stuck paying the entirety of a deal on a player they openly tried to dump. Houston moved on quickly. Boston might as well.
  20. Nope. Cardinals plan to move him to 1b. He has no defense there to step down from…
  21. Hard pass. We have enough 1b/DH types already in camp. St. Louis didn’t want Contreras behind the plate anymore. Willson’s idea of “framing pitches” involves for some reason getting too close to the hitter. Last year, JD Martínez broke Willson’s arm by merely swinging. They’re not even attempting to put him back behind the plate; presumably he’s awful without moving too far forward. And they have a pair of better catchers that can frame a pitch without ending up in a cast…
  22. Slaten or Chapman? Minter fits into former LHP Breslow’s off-season plan to horde LHPs…
