    Christian Vazquez. StatCast still gives him good grades for pitch framing. One year left at $10mill. If the Twins want to shave some salary, Vazquez plus $3mill for RHP Zack Kelly (or some other nondescript 40 man arm) makes some sense for both teams. Kelly isn’t awful or anything and he could handle some useful innings for the Twins. But he also won’t be hard to replace in Boston…

    Walker is a good player who does help the defense, although I prefer upgrading third over first. But I’d be happy with either one. But whether the Sox go for Walker or Bregman or Alonso or Arenado, it does create the logjam that necessitates another move, most likely involving either Casas or Yoshida.     Kittredge is fine if you limit him to a one year deal. The guy has had so many arm arm issues in recent years, he’s going to have to learn how to throw left-handed soon if he wants to keep pitching…

    I think you undervalue Robert based on his one bad season. But there is a good chance that the White Sox expect to receive compensation for the 5 bWAR player from 2023 and not something more representative of his services. Sure Scott was lesser a few years back, but signing a reliever for 4 years is a lot less risky than signing a starter for 6 or 7 or 10 or whatever they’re expecting these days. Especially the starters the Sox sign. Who was their last free agent SP that required a significant commitment and didn’t crap out almost immediately?

    Bregman doesn’t turn 32 until March, 2026. But, yes, he is a short term solution that will require a long term contract. I do think upgrading 3b and moving Devers is a good plan, and Bregman is one of the better fits of the readily available players, but right now he feels more like a “see, we will spend!!” type of signing. I’d much prefer Isaac Paredes, whose defense can be up and down on the metrics, but whose dead pull right-handed swing was made for Fenway. But the Sox just do not match up with the Cubs for a trade, despite Paredes being somewhat unpopular with their fans…

    But he gets that same money regardless of where his clients sign. Why would he direct them to Boston? That type of deal would lead to his client suing him for not acting in their best interests…

    The obligatory BTV mention has Castillo with a surplus value of $2.8mill, same as Wikelman Gonzalez. I don’t see Seattle making that deal, as I’d guess they’re trying to capitalize on inflated SP contracts. Castillo might be a mid-rotation guy, but the value of his current contract is only $3mill AAV over the new one for the the extremely fungible Yusei Kikuchi…

    An outfield of Robert-Duran-Anthony looks very strong on both sides. Rafaela is probably best as an overpaid supersub. Abreu is still trade fodder. Long term deals for relievers are typically about 4 years, which is certainly worth it for a RP worth 7.6 bWAR in the past two years entering his age 30 season. Let’s not pervade the myth that all relievers are volatile; it’s simply not true. Arenado works to bolster the defense, but yes, either Yoshida (plus cash?) goes for him or another deal would need to be made elsewhere.

    Signing Bregman, Manaea and probably (hopefully) Scott and trading for Crochet. If they can’t get Bregman, then the Sox will try to get Luis Robert Jr. included in the Crochet deal. I also think Arenado is still in play, albeit not so close for your top plan. Im not wild about Bregman…

    It’s gone very overboard. He will likely make more this year than the Tampa Rays. But Soto is inarguably among the best offensive players in the game today, and got there at a ridiculously young age. That he played 6 seasons before turning 26 is not a mere write-off as to how he’s already putting up numbers with the games all time greats; it’s a crazy impressive accomplishment to even be in that position. He’s most definitely on a path to Cooperstown. I would have loved to get him in Boston, but I do understand not outbidding the Mets here. Hopefully the Sox retain this newfound commitment to spending with the money no longer earmarked for Soto…

    He did have some good years without Judge. I suspect at a minimum he’ll have the 156 OPS+ he had in all those years he and Judge weren’t teammates. Of course he racked those up from ages 19-24, so some improvement shouldn’t be surprising…

    I just don’t see any team taking on four players : (Casas, Abreu, Wikelman, and Kelly) that require 40 man roster spots. And hopefully Boston doesn’t deplete too much of their pitching depth that still has options. The Sox can free up spots through the DFA process, starting with Gaspar…

    Sure, if that prospect was Kristian Campbell. On BTV, a deal of Casas and Yoelin Casper’s is fair, but I’m not entirely sure Pitt is interested in that deal. On that site, Casas’ value is roughly equal to that of Johan Oviedo. I don’t think Boston should be interested in that deal…

    The big four last year were Snell, Montgomery, Chapman and Bellinger. Speier (and everyone else) linked Boston to Montgomery. He probably linked us to Snell, which is believable and probably happened. But Chapman and Bellinger? I don’t recall him or anyone else establishing that connection, and I very much wanted the Sox in on Chapman…

    Teoscar is not a Boras client. Bellinger is not a free agent. The Cubs do want to move him, but all Boras can do is enforce existing relevant clauses in Cody’s contract.
