  1. Then why were you bringing up Gasper at all?
  2. And Judge and Trout and Betts and Skubal and Freeman But cheap ass Breslow went out and got Alex Siegler and Alec Gamboa instead!!!
  3. And moot. They didn’t sign Gasper and then decide they didn’t need Alonso or Schwarber…
  4. The issue is you’re believing all the negative hype about the offense and thinking it will be among the worst in MLB. Barring injuries, it won’t. And the reality of needing superstar talent to carry an offense is not true. The Brewers scored the third most runs in MLB last year, and they did it without a single starter posting an .800 OPS. And they did it teams that had Alonso and Schwarber in their star-laden lineups actually scored fewer runs than the Brewers and the Red Sox…
  5. Please refrain from nonsensical arguments like they signed Gasper instead of Alonso/Schwarber. It was most definitely not an “either/or” scenario and you know that…
  6. That are not on the 40 man? Who?
  7. Not so sure. This team wasn’t so incompetent ladt year, when they scored 12 runs fewer than the American League champion Blue Jays, and actually outscored the Phillies. This year, the offense should be at least as good as last season’s. And the SP should be much better…
  8. Fangraphs projects Boston to win 90 games, tying them with Toronto to for first place in the AL East. They predict the Yankees to win 87, come in 4th in the AL East, and miss the postseason entirely…
  9. When is it not a guest appearance? 33% of all post-season teams get eliminated with a “guest appearance.” Another 33% get taken out shortly after. Are we playing the “anything short of a ring is failure” game? That game was invented by Serial Complainers…
  10. Guest Please help me to believe that the Red Sox did enough to improve on last year’s Wild Card club. Mark P The pitching is way better, Willson Contereras is a good hitter, and you get a full season of Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer. The Red Sox should be in good shape to contend again. From a recent MLBTR chat…
  11. That was never part of the question..,
  12. It’s not a question of whether or not you’re satisfied or holding the Sox to a different standard. 89-90 wins is all but a guarantee of postseason play and youre not punishing the Sox by saying they’re going to win that many games and miss the postseason. Because someone is going and it’s solely based on wins. MLB isnt going to tell the Red Sox “Sorry, yes, you won enough games but you neeed a better DH.” Does the AL features 6 offenses guaranteed to win more games with their prolific scoring? If so, who?
  13. No team since the current postseason was implemented has won as many as 89 games and failed to get into playoffs. One team won 88 games and missed. 89 wins puts their playoff likelihood well over 95%. At that point, your actually attributing more wins to other teams who have more flaws than Boston…
  14. In the pre-wild card era, eight 100 win teams missed the postseason, most recently the 1993 Giants. With 3 wild cards in each league, never…
  15. And historic. That would mean three non-division winning teams have 91 wins or more. That would be an MLB first…
  16. Or Cheng. It’s not like IKF can’t handle Romy’s duties early on…
  17. They’re just guessing. Do they even talk to the Sox FO about that roster stuff?
  18. You think they win 90 and miss the playoffs? I want that wager. Now!
  19. While I’m sure Breslow knew it, I doubt the timing was anything. It’s not like Milwaukee was going to suddenly overcharge for Monasterio and demand Anthony in return for him if they knew Romy was out…
  20. Nats signed him. Still lots of mediocrity-wannabe’s left on the free agent market. Maybe then Sox could try something crazy and sign Tony Gonsolin for the bullpen. (Zero chance. They might sign him, but it would be to an MiLB contract and he’d be a starter.)…
  21. OBP is probably more paramount, but ideally batting average. Get a hit and score the guy. Nothing more frustrating than watching the ghost runner not advance after a strikeout and grounder to shortstop…
  22. Cionel Perez? He didn’t pitch much last year coming off an injury, but wasn’t it an oblique injury?
  23. You can call .722/.717 as “even splits”. In fact, you should. A difference that small is more than accounted for by one single over 400 at bats. Narvaez’ .723/.732 are pretty even as well…
  24. The Sox are likely neither. But I do think it’s time they paid attention to the bulllpen. The biggest name added to it so far this off-season is Ryan Watson…
  25. Right. Let teams ruin more player’ careers by forcing them to play through injuries. That sounds fun…
