    Where I grew up it was the opposite. We had a McDonalds for years at one end of town. BK finally got a franchise and set up at the opposite side of town. McDonald’s put up a second restaurant across the street from the new BK within a year. And this town was not big enough for two McDonalds. Still isn’t….

    Mayer is a very low risk shortstop. If he doesn’t pan out, it’s not a big deal to replace him. And his pedigree is good enough that his first 350 career PA are probably not definitive. So yes, if I were a Mets fan and could trade Lindor from ages 33-38 for Mayer, I do it. Quickly. And getting former All Star Duran, two prospects, plus over $100mill in payroll freed up? What the f*** is there not to like for Mets’ fans?

    Pablo Sandoval? Bogaerts did play SS in Boston with Breslow. 10 out of 10 points for nostalgia. But if the issue is Story might be too weak to pair with Mead up the middle, Bogaerts feels more like another problem as opposed to a solution…

    Doubtful Lindor is as expensive as that. His remaining 5 yrs $160mill does reduce his value. You can argue BTV isn’t accurate, but does that mean you say you are? BTV thoroughly despises this trade for Boston as they surrender $68mill in surplus value for $8mill, and that’s after NY includes the $20mill. Plus why? Sox don’t need a long term solution at SS. So why take on an expensive and declining one?

    Monasterio and Romy are redundant. I would demote Monasterio first. But Monasterio has been painting a different picture lately. But bear in mind, the entire point of demoting a player is so that you get to keep everyone…

    Hey, I prefer Cheng right now. But when Story gets activated, it won’t be to watch Cheng, Mayer or Monasterio play his position. I suppose Breslow could just never activate Story. But I doubt he thinks so nefariously…

    If Story, Mayer and IKF were all activated, only Story needs to be added to the 40 man. Mayer would go to AAA, as he lost his starting job anyway. And the Sox could option Seigler to accommodate Story. If IKF gets activated, they would need to option either Monasterio or Romy.. I don’t see an issue. Of course this whole situation could get more convoluted with every trade the Sox make in the next week…

    They’re all rostered now, and even with Mead added the Sox still have one open 40 man roster spot. Plus, let’s face it, very few tears would be shed if they DFA’d Brett Harris or Mickey Gasper. Not counting tears actually shed by Harris and Gasper, of course. Do Monasterio and/or Romy have options?

    Per MLBTR, Breslow did inquire about Peña but was immediately shot down. The rental market for shortstops is headlined by JP Crawford (not selling?) followed by a bunch of Braves. Orlando Arcia is free right now. Story isn’t a plus glove, or even close to one, but he is the most likely solution. And for very obvious reasons. Cheng is a plus glove and the Sox are 12-1 in his starts…

    Catcher is unlikely, unless said catcher makes for a viable RHH DH, which Jeffers does. But he figures to be a popular choice at the deadline. And Breslow doesn’t outbid others very often. SS makes sense, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they simply waited out Story, Mayer, and/or IKF. Monasterio isn’t exactly forcing the issue with his recent white hot hitting. Bullpen is a buyer standard, but SP is probably more important. Especially if Bennett is on an innings limit coming off TJ. LF might be the biggest issue. Even with Duran getting the occasional hit lately, he still has gotten going at anything except strike outs. A platoon with Jahmai Jones is not ameliorating this situation despite the slight overall improvement…

    Like Stanton, Arenado was traded when his salary peaked. Devers ran himself out of town, which Witt hasn’t done yet. But what Stanton, Arenado and Devers all had in common was their teams were openly looking to move them. (Ok, Devers move was sudden and not open, but came from an untenable internal situation.) KC isn’t looking to move Witt yet, and Witt isn’t forcing the issue as far as anyone knows. KC has no reason to move Witt, especially if they learned anything from the Marlins and saw the devastating effect moving Stanton (and Yelich) had on their attendance…

    Fair point. Although actually it was 4 years. Stanton was traded when his contract escalated from $6.5mill (2 years) to $9.5mill to $14.5mill and then he was dealt when it was at $25mill. That same point for Witt will be after 2027 when his salary reaches $31mill. So maybe in 2 years, they’ll talk…

    Witt isn’t an option because KC isn’t trading him. And every reason you come up with about why they should is a superficial rationalization that, upon better securing, makes absolutely zero sense. Can you name one player to sign one of those mega extensions snd then get traded 2 years later? The Royals signed Witt because he was their best chance at winning, and a bad season doesn’t mean tear it down, trade Bobby for a dozen prospects, and hope one pans out and becomes extension-worthy…
