  1. In two weeks when he settles in to his .260/.310/.340 self, maybe it resumes…
  2. Since you don’t watch games and stats don’t bear this out, I’m assuming some EEI talking brain cell is saying this…
  3. SS since IKF took over is looking good, too, with his .937 OPS over his last 9 games. I told you people he’s a good player…
  4. If it’s like Chicago (north side), a lot of the secondary market stuff goes down in March…
  5. Imagine the joy in Boston when Henry finally agrees to sell and the new owner is revealed to be a partnership between Tony Ressler and Tom Dundon. For those unaware, they two of the cheapest NBA owners that don’t just pinch pennies; they squeeze them so tight Lincoln’s head starts bleeding….
  6. And like most baseball teams, the folks that bought the tickets last December/January are not always the people going to games…
  7. Not only is there no chance, but even among MLB owners it’s still easier to find folks that spend less than Henry than more…
  8. So a protest that embraces how badly the team is playing? Or is this supposed to be a promotion for griping fans to still spend money? If fans want to go with a bag on their head like the old New Orleans Aints fans, go for it. But bear in mind, you still have to BUY THE TICKET. It’s like when Americans were smashing Japanese radios in the 1980s as a protest over foreign manufacturers, and Miami columnist Dave Barry pointed out “you still have to buy the radio and import it. Japan knows this and their manufacturers are probably making special radios that explode dramatically so as to look good on camera.”
  9. I have not heard that version. It doesn’t really agree with his interview on air when asked about moving to first and he flat out said “no.” No conditions. Nothing. Just a flat out refusal accompanied by him saying “do they expect me to learn every position?” He really did sound like a petulant child still griping about not getting to play 3b anymore, which makes this new version of the story tougher to believe. This new story feels like a fabrication to clean up Devers’ reputation by piling on to Breslow. But honestly, even tjis story still makes Devers look like a selfish, petulant child.
  10. Outside of the IL, why can’t you burn Whit in that role? Hes a good example of how the opener is supposed to be employed…
  11. Stop with the opener if you're not going to do it right. Leave Bello in the bullpen and bring up Bennett to fill the starter role...
  12. If any Sox manager would ever employ it properly, the Six might get the occasional win…
  13. The whole idea behind using an opener was to use one of the better relievers against the top of the order rather than saving them for the 7th, 8th, 9th with anyone could be up. Using Samaniego shoes tjis logic has escaped Boston…
  14. It’s not like Yoshida is putting a stranglehold on the DH role lately…
  15. Wasn’t that meeting due to his reluctance to move to 1b and cover for an injured teammate?
  16. Adames is owed $135 mill after this season. Yoshida is owed $18.6 mill after this season. They save a ton of money. Of course some of that might have to be spent on a new SS. Not sure if they play Schmitt there or not. Hes only played 96 inning there at the MLB level, and only 12 since they acquired Adames. If SF does decide to save money, is Adames the guy they move? He is owed a lot, but so is Jung Hoo Lee, and of the two, only Adames has an exemplary attendance record, if you get my drift…
  17. Milwaukee sort of moves beyond the current launch angle/exit velocity model most teams enforce. Offense doesn’t stop when your swing does. Having seen Milwaukee play a few times, they don’t pound you with hit after hit. They steal, they move on the pitch. They avoid DPs. They’re aggressive on the bases. Boston could be that type of team. They instead chose to force offense to happen. They have a lineup featuring numerous speedy athletic types, but are still playing station-to-station baseball and can’t score unless 3 batters reach. Cora started this philosophy putting Anthony in the leadoff spot. While not slow, Anthony’s average speed was enough to clog the bases in front of Duran…
  18. In many cases, defensive versatility comes at the expense of offense. Pitching/defense can be a successful formula, but Breslow botched it by ignoring the bullpen, which is a huge part of today’s game. There’s a big reason everyone throws 95mph today, and thats because they only go 5-6 IP…
  19. And you sound like the guy who says “defense doesn’t matter. Just get 8 hitters and sort it out later” and ignores that the teams that came in 3rd and 4th in MLB met in the World Series. 😉
  20. Devers would still be here if he was amenable to 1b then as he is now. Contreras might not be here in that case, but i can’t say that for certain. At one point, Henry and FSG did agree to pay Devers over $300 mill for the next decade. I do doubt they left that meeting thinking “ok next step is to trade him outta here!”
  21. And Tampa has all but weaponized bunting as well. Milwaukee clearly knew their offense and how to maximize it. Boston saw half the team struggle, wasn’t ready or willing to adjust and has unsuccessfully tried to ride it out. Milwaukee also runs all the time, negating some of their weak SLG by just taking the bases you give them. Boston does have the speed to do this. They just don’t…
  22. I’ve heard the 2x number as well, but it’s a theory at best. I think Contreras has hit as well as Bregman, but the failure of Durbin to even bring to the plate ehat Toro brought has been huge. Plus the disappearance of Story and, until recently, Duran…
  23. I do agree SLG is one of the best measures for a hitter, because it has the widest range. BA - 95% of the league falls between .200 and .300, and those who don’t are not outside that tight range by much OBP - Most of the league is in a similar range - maybe .280 to .380. But probably not 95% and they can get further outside. SLG - the range goes up to maybe .320 to .560 or so for probably 85-90%. I admit I’m guessing here and not willing to get hard numbers. But it’s not uncommon to see two hitters in the same lineup with SLG that differs by .200. You rarely get that with BA and OBP, and when you do, at least one of those hitters has a very limited number of PAs…
  24. Milwaukee is 28th in SLG. Boston is 24th. Milwaukee has 130 XBH, Boston has 145. Youve seen it before. Have you ever explained it?
