  1. Where is your data from? If you use the 2024 team valuation against the Sox 2025 payroll (as they didnt have any 2025 revenue yet, or at a minimum the picture was incomplete), the Sox rank 11th in percentage of revenue (per Forbes) spent on payroll (per Sportra)…
  2. Maybe we just don’t deserve you..
  3. 1. It’s old data. 2. Thr range absolutely matters. As does the teams below them. Where are the Yankees and Dodgers on this list? If the 23rd highest percentage is spending, say, 15% on the roster, what percentage does the top team spend? If it’s 17-19%, what exactly are you holding against them? I’d like to see this ranking. I bet the higher revenue teams are mostly in the lower third, just like Boston…
  4. Sure he saw something in Song when he drafted him multiple years ago - but he also should have been aware 1) Song had not pitched in multiple seasons and 2) he would have to keep a pitcher out of the game for multiple years on an MLB roster for a full season while attempting to compete for an NL East title. Now maybe he tried to work out a trade to keep Song, which would have made sense, and really, was the ONLY course of action that made sense. But if he tried, he never successfully enticed Bloom. So then DD stubbornly proceeded to burn Song out in minutes and set his career back a couple years…
  5. Without numbers, that’s just some shock value. Can we say data on who is above and below and how tight that range is? Also you’ve been using it along time through multiple acquisitions. Is it even accurate anymor?
  6. Fred is always right. Reality is frequently inaccurate…
  7. Wong has experience at 1b as well, as do Gasper and Siegler…
  8. Guerrero throws as hard as Chapman, but has chosen a slightly different career path - one that serves to prove velocity alone can get you to MLB, but it’s not going to keep you there for long…
  9. They strike out too out too much for that. Just get the hit…
  10. Sac bunt to third followed by a strikeout makes things much tougher.
  11. Ah yes, quoted directly from “The Art of Hitting” by Bobby Dalbec…
  12. Why would I be talking to his agent about his defensive skillset?
  13. Much easier said than done. “Just hit the ball” when half the #4 starters in the league can throw 95mph for multiple innings is a taller order than we think. And some of those bullpen guys specialize in limiting contact…
  14. Of course you are. Maybe not as much as some fans like, but all you need to do is score more times than your opponent. Sort of the simple essence of any sport (except darts)…
  15. But he talked about sac bunting, which is different than bunting for a single…
  16. Teams strayed away from small ball because it’s less effective. Nothing to do with entertainment value. Just like how teams prefer ground ball pitchers because they’re more effective, and not because groundouts are so exciting…
  17. I’m not so sure about that. Duran has repeatedly shown he’s a defensive question mark. If he was even an above average defensive CF, they could ship Rafaela off for a hard-hitting exit velocity left fielder. Duran is in LF because it’s where his inconsistent defensive abilities are least detrimental…
  18. If we traded Mayer for Marte, how does he bat 7th and play Marte’s position? And it means no platooning Romy at 2b and certainly not with the missing Durbin…
  19. Think of it this way. A bad rotation can destroy a good bullpen. A weak bottom of the lineup can weaken the top of the lineup, but not destroy it…
  20. Offense is more fun to watch - that much is true. No game is more frustrating than watching opposing pitchers keep a weak lineup at bat in a game you’re trailing 1-0 or 2-1. And bad offense can sink a team, like the 2000 Red Sox team that carried 3 pitchers (Pedro, Lowe, Wakefield) having elite seasons without the team going to the postseason. But in today’s bullpen-driven game, weak starting pitching can snd will overexpose more bullpens - even very good ones - leading to games where the offense simply cannot bail you out. A weak offense exposes no other facet of a team…
  21. Playing all 9 positions in one game is usually more of a gimmick than a demonstration of versatility. In the case of Bett Campaneris, in his 19 year career, it was the only game in which he played 4 positions (P, C, 1b and RF) and one of 2 games for a fifth (CF). Shane Halter, Andrew Romine and Scott Sheldon also accomplished this feat. All 5 players who have done it did so in games after September 1st when their team was probably just playing out the string and the manager decided to give the fans something special to see…
  22. Being a Sox fan alone, you should know that’s not true. Most of us grew up with teams and lineups that were at or near the AL in runs scored, but were average to bad at pitching and, in many cases, defense, and those teams missed out on the (admittedly smaller) postseason altogether. Think late 1970’s to early 1980’s. (Maybe you’re too young for those teams?) And they’re hardly the only team to fit this mold. Like most things in baseball, there is no winning formula. Teams can win titles on the backs of pitching, offense, bullpen, or any combination. I suppose if there is any singular universal requirement, it’s probably defense. No matter how well you hit or pitch, it’s tough to keep winning when the opposing team gets 4 or more outs per inning…
  23. That’s not what was said. What was said was that Mookie changed positions without complaining, and in fact even practiced those positions just in case, and did all that because it was for the benefit of the team. Devers, on the other hand, complained about any and every such suggestion. Not the same at all. The original statement was about willingness and attitude, not athleticism. You didn’t even come close to paraphrasing it correctly…
  24. Not as long as Rafaela is healthy. But if that situation changes, he does very likely move there…
  25. Do a lowercase “r”. No need to shout it. Unless you’re Eric Burdon…
