  1. Kyle Finnegan needs a job…
  2. Grissom starts the year in Worcester, but he had very limited time last year to show what he can do. Atlanta clearly valued his bat, which was the tool that catapulted him through their minors in just a couple seasons. I wouldn’t give up on him just yet…
  3. Injuries will be a factor, since they are every year. And roster changes are even more frequent. Essentially you said Bregman will play second base until he doesn’t. Hard to argue with that…
  4. Cora factor. If he wanted Boston, he had his chance back in 2012 when the Sox drafted him and his best buddy Blake Swihart was already in the organization. But he opted for LSU instead…
  5. I’m also looking at the Dodgers. They have a Gold Glove 2b in CF and a Gold Glove RF at SS. And they have a player who was a rookie last year that posted an .886 OPS in the NLCS, but whose starting position next year appears to be RF for the Oklahoma City Comets. Playing good defenders out of position and hording depth above your best prospects? Fans might not like the Sox doing it, but it’s the Dodger way…
  6. The Sox should hold Yoshida. He can hit. And right now he is part of their depth, which is a good thing. Or they could trade him, watch injuries kick in, and be forced to sign some Jake Lamb type so he can take meaningful at bats…
  7. It’s odd that many think Bregman can’t handle 2b, but none of us know him or have watched him as much as Cora, who thinks the opposite. Im deferring to Cora here, but these things do have a way of working out…
  8. And this from someone who’s been a heavy critic since November. Your objectivity is noted…
  9. Alonso clogs up the 1b/DH situation even further. Bregman at least has middle infield experience, albeit mostly in college and the lower minors. And I stand by my next prediction for Bregman, which is he will eventually take over 3b, either pushing Devers into the 1b/DH mix or if Devers gets hurt. The Sox OF is fine. Rafaela is not much of a hitter, but an elite defensive OF. And we also still have Roman Anthony…
  10. I wanted that bat to play 3rd and hit right-handed and not be Nolan Arenado at all or be Alex Bregman for the next 6-7 years. Ok so I was rather picky, but they nailed my wish list, even if they danced around that last part, and probably won’t play Bregman at third for a while…
  11. The sites differ greatly on the oWAR values for O’Neill’s and Wong…
  12. I backtracked in my head and simplified that answer. The splits stuff was often cited as a reason the Sox needed him. Left-handed splits only, of course. On baseball-reference (the site that actually has oWAR), O’Neill was fourth in oWAR, just behind Connor Wong. O’Neill was 0.5 oWAR ahead of David Hamilton, who had 150 less PA…
  13. Total bases tell more about a hitter. RBIs depend on other hitters. And if you like RBIs, O’Neill should be a guy you want to move.
  14. We were talking about O’Neill’s RBI and Thats some factual data for those that prefer RBIs…
  15. Like moving a Gold Glove 1b in Kevin Youkilis back to 3b because you let go your future Hall of Fame third baseman with more Gold Gloves than King Midas in a sporting goods store in order to acquire some big name first baseman? That kinda silly season? Compared to what we’ve seen the Sox do, this is small potatoes. And we’re trying to be the Dodgers, remember? That team that had a Gold Glove 2b in CF last year while their DRS King in CF was manning 2b. And their Gold Glove RF is playin SS…
  16. I think he will start the season there. I also think he will not finish the season there...
  17. Maybe he does not matric well, as you say. He just seems like an odd choice to have been non-tendered in the first place, given that I think he is the first player ever to be selected to an All Star team and then get non-tendered later than same year. The complete lack of rumors about him is the most surprising. Small link to the DBacks this week, but then they went and signed Kendall "Back from The" Graveman...
  18. If you're on a Red Sox forum from November through March, you clearly have a love for the Red Sox that might require a 12 step program...
  19. Why would anyone have to cut Refsnyder? If they signed, say, Adam Duvall, to platoon in RF, they could simply demote Romy Gonzalez to Worcester (he has options). And platoon Ref at DH with Yoshida...
  20. Then you need to do the following. Listen to Lou Merloni on EEI and write down the fourth letter of every third word in every second sentence he says. Enter those numbers into your Jimmy Piersall Decoder medallion and it should give you an address plus a secret word. Go to the address and look for a gnome carrying a vat of custard and say the secret word. He will hand you your $8.45 cash back reward. If he doesn't, you probably found the wrong gnome carrying a vat of custard. You will have to try again tomorrow...
  21. So Kyle Finnegan. Over the last 3 years, probably the most consistent reliever in MLB. The variation in any stat over that stretch is minimal. Except saves, which have been increasing. If you sign him, you know what you’re getting. Yet last year he went from being an All Star to getting non-tendered by a bad team in just 6 months. And now here it is, mid-February, and he is still unemployed. He was projected for a very affordable $4.5 mill in arbitration. Maybe he wants a lot more, but it’s not like he ever even got to the point of exchanging salaries in arbitration. At first I wondered why the Sox are out. But really, why is everyone else, too?
  22. “I want the Sox to spend!!” “I want the Sox to spend!!” “I want the Sox to spend!!” “Not on that guy!!” I criticize the spending as much as anyone, at least until recently. But it’s not like tickets get cheaper if payroll is down. And haven’t some been calling for a Fenway Boycott until they spend? Your prayers have been answered…
  23. I think Bregman will eventually find his way to 3b and Campbell will get his reps.
