Over the last 3 years, probably the most consistent reliever in MLB. The variation in any stat over that stretch is minimal. Except saves, which have been increasing. If you sign him, you know what you’re getting.
Yet last year he went from being an All Star to getting non-tendered by a bad team in just 6 months. And now here it is, mid-February, and he is still unemployed. He was projected for a very affordable $4.5 mill in arbitration.
Maybe he wants a lot more, but it’s not like he ever even got to the point of exchanging salaries in arbitration. At first I wondered why the Sox are out. But really, why is everyone else, too?
