  1. Well, that’s not really true. You might not use the CBT acronym, but you (like most) express payroll concerns, which is the exact same thing on a less technical level. If the Sox pay Player X less money, they can spend more on Player Y. It’s all the same thing, just one is more accountant-y. Of course lately, the Sox have eschewed Players X and Y and gone directly for Player Z on a one year deal, two years if Z is recovering from TJ.
  2. I predicted Bregman, but I’m not a huge Bregman fan. But I like this deal. First of all, despite my frugal tendencies, I have always said the years are more dangerous than the dollars. Three years? I’m in. Second, it’s good to see SOME spending. Third, while he reportedly is slated for 2b, it’s not etched in stone and he might take over 3b and help a porous defense. The Sox have significant position player depth right now, enough to withstand injuries without immediately resorting to Dominic Smith types. Would I still like another bullpen arm and a platoon partner for Abreu with a semi-decent glove? Absolutely, but this is a much bigger step in the right direction…
  3. Players are offered up in trades for more reasons than teams trying to get rid of them. In fact, money is quite often a much larger factor. Regardless right now he’s with the Sox, and most likely the starting DH. That Cora has talked about him in the OF does indicate he’s in their plans this year. People keep wanting the Sox to be run like the Dodgers? Have you seen what the Dodgers do? They spend lots of money, stock up on MLB depth, and block prospects until they need them. Isn’t that exact cry what Boston is doing?
  4. He drove in 30 teammates. For some perspective, Refsnyder drove in 29. Dominic Smith drove in 28. Romy Gonzalez drove in 23…
  5. O’Neill wasn’t exactly Mr. RBI. He drove in himself more than he did all of his teammates combined. That’s not easy to do with 30+ home runs…
  6. I am willing to bet the Sox do not think of Yoshida as “an annoyance.” Just some fans…
  7. How is that not “selling low”? If you sell when prices deflate or when the market bottoms out, you’re selling low…
  8. Depth has a way of sorting itself out. No need to do anything…
  9. Both will start for the Sox this year. And why does either need to be “dealt with?” Somewhere along the line, the sports media started pushing this idea that “depth” was a bad thing, often equating it to a controversy. Probably around the same time they coined the phrase “team chemistry” and droned on and on about its importance. It’s not too late to deal Casas, the same as Yoshida. We’ve all seen trades happen deep into March. One year, Craig Kimbrel was dealt right before opening day…
  10. He was SS at LSU. Thats something. Only 9 career games at 2b. All with Houston…
  11. Removing any of Devers, Casas or Bregman from the Sox lineup makes it look pretty weak…
  12. I think we are very likely to start the year with the unpopular lineup with Bregman at 2b. But I doubt we finish the year that way. Between injuries, trades, the rise of certain prospects, and random Cora position movements, things will look different. Possibly very different…
  13. Playing Bregman at 2b does seem stupid in a Jim Hendry kind of way. And it does seem like blowing a chance to upgrade the infield defense. But… It’s also important to remember the Champion of Moving Bregman to 2b is Cora, who knows Bregman personally, and is well aware of Bregman’s strengths and limitations. You know, unlike me…
  14. 1b - Casas 2b - Bregman 3b - Devers DH - Yoshida At least until the injuries kick in…
  15. I was saying all along they’d sign him. Granted the AAV shocked me. Now hopefully he doesn’t play 2b…
  16. I can understand that. Frankly with Giolito, Buehler and Crochet and their 4 combined torn ligaments, I’m not so sure 6 starters is even an option. Will all six ever be healthy simultaneously?
  17. No idea about his 2022, but his 2023 was going well with Chicago - 3.79 ERA, 117 ERA+, 2.9 bWAR, and 131 K in 121 IP. He fell apart through two team changes. There were stories about divorce, and of course he wound up getting injured pretty quickly in ST last year. It is possible some damage was already done. I’m not worried too much if he’s actually healthy. Of course the same applies to Buehler…
  18. An American car? He’s really left his homeland behind!
  19. Did he clean out O’Neill’s locker?
  20. Exactly. Vegas projections are influenced by non-baseball factors, such as the volume of bets placed…
  21. Bigger? Like 5’7”?
  22. I’m calling it now. 162 wins!! … minus the games in which they finish second. But they will NEVER finish worse than second in any game! Book it!
  23. And hoping for full seasons (or at least larger ones) from Casas, Story and Grissom…
