  1. There are ways around that requirement. The selecting team and team losing the player can and often do work out a trade or cash settlement, which then allows the player to be demoted. But the Marlins non-tendered all their first basemen (Bour, Dietrich) and haven’t exactly been actively pursuing replacements. As Ockimey was in AAA last year, he’s close to MLB and one of the more prominent 1b candidates left unprotected. And he checks all the right boxes the Marlins require - meaning he plays for minimum wage...
  2. Juan Centeno made his MLB debut in 2013 with the Mets...
  3. I blame Rosenthal for prematurely leaking this one. But if it happens, does it kill any interest in Kluber, Bauer or Syndergaard? This looks like settling to me...
  4. At best, he’s a mid-season call up. He’s not on the 40 man roster and his minor league deal guarantees Pawtucket to start. If the Sox deal Bradley - which I would call unlikely - that could clear up a bench spot for Swihart. Although I would expect the Sox to get a OF//DH type before the season, because I don’t think the plan is to make Steve Pearce the everyday DH with JDM moving to LF. At least I hope not. And I don’t think Swihart gets that role, either...
  5. ... 3 years. Money undisclosed...
  6. So ... thoughts on who makes MLB debuts this season? Lakins seems obvious, since he is on the 40 man roster and the Sox likely use a ton of relievers, like every team does. Anyone else? Thoughts?
  7. On this board or the minor league board? Also when this transaction was announced on MLBTR, the reactions in their posts were largely along the lines of “so Bradley is getting traded?” The purpose here is to quash that foolish idea that Gorkys Hernandez was signed to replace an outgoing Bradley...
  8. It’s more about DD’s willingness to listen. These players are not being marketed so much as just no longer untouchable...
  9. So we’re good here now? Ok. Also, Gorkys gets so little love. Give him just one thread. Just this one. It’s not like he’s out there inspiring other threads all over the internet...
  10. Or, to be more accurate, “until injury”...
  11. Are there rules for thread-worthy topics?
  12. ... to a minor league deal. This is not, as MLBTR speculation would indicate, a precursor to dealing Bradley. Rather this looks like it was done simply because Pawtucket lacks any MLB depth, especially in the outfield...
  13. There you are, Yankees. The stopgap shortstop until Didi Grigorious returns...
  14. The important thing we all learned from that tweet is Jeter is still wearing pinstripes...
  15. Brewers have post-season hero Orlando Arcia, whose defense they apparently love. Braves haven’t given up on Swanson just yet and are more in the market for corner outfielders. That does leave Tampa as a possibility. They did win 90 games last year and shouldn’t be forgotten about...
  16. Thor is only a health risk for OTHER teams. Got it now?
  17. Bogaerts is tough to envision being dealt. With only one year left, his appeal is limited to contending teams, but most of them already have good shortstops. Except one pinstriped one...
  18. Per MLBTR, the Diamondbacks are interested in JBJ. Oh, but we aren’t supposed to do “trade Bradley” threads. I’ll delete the article from MLBTR...
  19. J If they deal any of those 3, it’s also possible a reliever or two comes back...
  20. Or the-arranging the furniture. It’s not like they’re dealing them for prospects to bolster the farm. Maybe clearing money for Harper, who’s had surprisingly little interest League wide? Just spitballing...
  21. Or move Sanchez to 1b/DH. They aren’t really going to count on a repeat performance from Luke Voit, are they?
  22. This is important to the Sox as they clearly plan to select Josh Ockimey in the Rule 5 draft...
  23. Especially if they think it should be Andujar straight up for Syndergaard and Castro. Castro is good enough that the Marlins can deal him in another trade. Now if the Yankees took back Wei-Yin Chen, maybe. Prado? Maybe but less likely. But Castro? A lot less appealing. Of course that assumes the Marlins are so desperate to unload Chen or Prado they’d compromise a trade of their best player to do so. But given jow many Realmuto rumors there have been, why would they? Of course none of that stops the real problem of the Mets getting completely sodomized in that deal...
  24. I think dumping cash is the whole idea for the Pirates. I doubt they want anyone back. I like Cervelli as a catcher, but his concussion history should be scary to any GM. The first rumor I saw was Sharwyn for Cervelli, which seems like a no-brained to me. But maybe it wasn’t done because of the multiple injuries to Cervelli’s noggin...
  25. So the Mets are going to trade 3 years of Syndergaard for 2 years of Realmuto? What do you think the logic is here? To get to the bottom faster? If they get Realmuto, they think they’re good enough to win in that timeframe and that doesn’t happen if they deal Thor. The article on MLBTR actually says the Yankees have interest in other Mets’ pitchers as well. Syndergaard might not be the target here. The Yankees might be looking at Wheeler. (I’m sure they already asked about deGrom.)
