  1. The only player on the 40-man roster we haven't seen this year is Joey Curletta, who's hitting .205 with a .657 OPS in Portland. Is your belly button puckering and unpuckering with excitement too? The only players who might even be somewhat intriguing who might be called up are Dalbec, Chatham, and Reyes, but none of them are really killing it in the minors right now. (Dalbec is somewhat impressive, but his .234 BA in Pawtucket doesn't scream "promote me!" We might see Dalbec and/or Reyes, I guess. But we have to DFA a couple people first. I nominate Curletta and Smith...
  2. And maybe someday, Kyle Wren...
  3. Start a thread about 2020 if that’s what you want to discuss. People who don’t want to talk about it yet or want to focus on 2019 can just avoid it and talk on those dedicated treads...
  4. Oh his anger-filled attitude was a dead giveaway...
  5. Did you really take “nothing left to prove at third” seriously?
  6. Odd from you. I take it you think he has nothing left to prove at third?
  7. More than Rivera?
  8. Better than SF QB CJ Beathard? Granted this one is only funny in print
  9. Which he said about them why?
  10. If only they were clean like the Yankees...
  11. So you share a birthday with Yaz and a name with Fred Lynn?
  12. I find it hard to believe, and I rarely wave the ehite flag this early. But at the very least, I am trying to keep the optimistic ones from giving up...
  13. Because: 1) Garcia has already crushed his season high in IP for the year. 2) Hernandez, Dull, Lyons and Betances are all Major League pitchers capable of contributing the garbage innings you would need an additional reliever for anyway. 3) The post-season is no time to find out what adjustments Garcia needs to make for the Majors. 4) Unlike Valera, Garcia is not an infielder. I doubt Valera makes the postseason roster, but if he does there will be a reason that Garcia is not the answer for. Garcia will be added to the 40-man roster with plenty of time to keep him from the Rule 5 Draft....
  14. Big deal. Fenway Franks have a shelf life of 150 years...
  15. In Fenway? Maybe not. At Yankee Stadium? Absolutely...
  16. Too many remember him solely for popping out to Graig Nettles to end the 1978 season. Why no one remembers his home run off Ron Guidry earlier in that game is beyond me. Especially since the 39yo Yaz became only the second lefty to homer off Guidry that season...
  17. Nomar had nothing on Mike Hargrove. Remember him? His nickname was "The Human Rain Delay". After every pitch, he stepped out of the box, adjusted his helmet and his gloves, and took 3 practice swings. And then, sometimes, readjusted his helmet and gloves. Sometimes he would step in the box and step back out and do it all over again. And that sequence all happened without fail after EVERY PITCH! And to make matters worse, he was a very selective hitter and took a lot of pitches. And to really compound the issue, as he was not only a pretty good hitter, but he was especially good at drawing walks, he frequently hit leadoff. He could come up 5 times a game!! And did so alot!! When Hargrove came up, you had time to go to the fridge and get a snack. And if there was nothing good to snack on, you actually had time to go to the store and buy something good. And you had to, because many people starved to death waiting for his at bat to come to an end. In retrospect, Nomar wasn't so bad...
  18. Let's just hope the WC team knocks them out. So root against Tampa, as the Yankees (12-5) have owned them this season. But Oakland (2-0) and Cleveland (4-3) have winning records against them...
  19. I think my comment was more about Quinones. who played part of one season (in 1986) in Boston. Spike Owen logged more innings at shortstop for the Sox and he didn't even make your list . And it was Owen who had the stellar 1986 post-season...
  20. I really don't get ripping Brian Cashman. I think he has done a great job. It was easy to call him out when the Yankees were the far and away payroll leaders, but he has been extremely good, especially recently. He's found several hidden talents around the league like Urshela, Voit, and Tauchmann, and acquired them all for basically nothing. (Although he did give up Giovanni Gallegos to get Voit.) Not every GM gets that many hidden gems in that short of a time frame. That does take a special brand of talent recognition. I wish Dombrowski could do something close to that. (Lou Gorman was actually really good at finding scrap heap gems, but I don't think any other Sox GM really shined in this one area.)
  21. But bear in mind the overwhelming bulk of those titles occurred before Curt Flood changed the way rosters were built. Prior to free agency, it was very difficult to turn a team around and make a bad team good. The time between baseball changing the reserve clause and allowing free agency (1972) until free agency started to create exorbitant salaries (which I will say started with Kirby Puckett in 1990) was probably about the most level the playing field was in recent MLB history. In that time frame, the Yankees did win 2 World Series, but they were not the most dominant team in the sport. Not even close...
  22. Rey Quinones over Nomar and Naehring? Really? Did one of his 190 at bats with Boston really impress you? His run at SS in Boston was barely longer than Arquimedez Pozo...
  23. I think it's weird that the Kelenic comparisons range from Mark Kotsay to Christian Yelich/Grady sSizemore. Kotsay was a good player who basically fell off some sort of talent cliff before he turned 30, which Yelich and Sizemore are/were among the best in the game during their careers...
  24. AGon was probably my favorite of the Sox shortstops during that SS-Rotation phase...
  25. Oh ok. I will allow that...
