  1. OK, but what do you do when the robot umps turn on you? What do you do if you're cornered by the cyborg version of Angel Hernandez, an automaton with mechanical brute strength, no depth perception, extremely poor decision making abilities, and no concept of fault, conscience or cause-effect relationships but is hellbent on destruction and creating sadness and frustration?
  2. Paging Andrew Friedman...
  3. And the Yankees have since added Tyler Lyons and Trevor Rosenthal to the bullpen mix. While nothing is likely to save this season, can Dombrowski please take a gamble on someone other than non-pitchers Cody Asche, Joey Curletta, and the immortal Chris Owings ? Just give me the illusion of concern...
  4. No. He's on first....
  5. It's sort of weird so many think Cherington is relegated to do-nothing jobs around MLB, or out of MLB altogether. We rooted for a team that had a former GM as the first base coach just two years ago. Cherington is doing a far more responsible position than that...
  6. Sandoval was a misguided signing from Day One....
  7. To be fair, as the de facto leader of the Fire Dombrowski Movement, he isn't gone and we really don't know if he actually will be...
  8. I think that is a sweeping generalization that certainly applies to some relievers, but not all. There are also pitchers who want the ball no matter what, relish the high leverage chances and challenges, and always think they're the guy for any situation. These are human beings and aren't so easily categorized...
  9. By throwing strikes and getting hitters out at a spectacular rate, two things Ryan Weber has been incapable of doing on the same level...
  10. Ehen it comes to pitcher reinventing themselves, the best success story - and one no one has mentioned - is former Sox SP Frank Tanana. Some of you might remember him. (His Sox tenure was rather nondescript, however.) Tanana came up at 19 pitching for the Angels alongside Nolan Ryan, and threw nearly as hard. But by age 25, completely ruined his arm. He came back immediately throwing a huge variety of curveballs, and while he wasn’t the elite pitcher prior to his injury, managed to pitch in MLB until he was 39 years old. If Sale has to reinvent himself, it can be done quickly. And it can be very successful...
  11. But you have to bear in mind that every time I watch him pitch now, he gives up 6 runs and doesn’t get out of the second inning...
  12. Disagree. Cashman has done a good job for the Yankees, especially this year. There were plenty of seasons where the Yankees not winning was on the players themselves. It happens. This year he screwed up not getting a SP at the deadline, but he did save their season with his low cost signings that carried the team through some very rough stretches of injuries...
  13. Agreed. The Sox can get a better outfielder even for league minimum. Bryce Brentz would be a better option, and I am far from a Bryce Brentz Supporter...
  14. 2020 is BACK ON!!
  15. denny blames everything he doesn’t like about baseball on modern-day analytics and stat room geeks, even changes that have been around for over 120 years...
  16. That’s why his dad abandoned him in the RF seats that day...
  17. Huh? It’s not just about the dead money. It’s also about the active money. Also you left off Sandoval and his $17mill. The Red Sox remaining players still have a payroll of about $140mill. That’s more than enough to build a competitive team. That’s more than the payrolls of Tampa, Oakland, Minnesota, and Atlanta, all of whom probably also have some cash tied up in injured players as well. The Sox problem isn’t the “limited” payroll. Their problem is having no depth below their MLB payroll. Cleveland, for example, has a major ch lower payroll thanBoson and been without Kluber and Carrasco nearly all season and is still in a much better postseason position than Boston.,.
  18. Yes the idea of resting players is brand new. Remember back when every player played 162 games? That’s why it was no big deal when Cal Ripken broke that streak. Heck, it almost got ignored by the media...
  19. Even with the complete dearth of outfield depth in the Sox system, I never understood why they brought in Gorkys Hernandez. The only plausible reason is Pawtucket needed a warm body to actually play games. I would call up Cole Sturgeon before calling up Hernandez ...
  20. It just tells me you’re a dad;)
  21. Despite his good month, I'm not on the "Sam Travis as a Major Leaguer" bandwagon just yet...
  22. I was kidding. The Fake Moon Landing conspiracy is among the funniest, because as far as I can tell, it benefits no one. If you watch the documentary about Flat Earthers, they frequently reference the NASA conspiracies about how they're keeping the true shape of the Earth quiet. What they never say is why or who benefits...
  23. Has that ever happened when the “rest day” wasn’t based on a matchup with a tough lefty?
  24. I think it does give them a better chance and willingness to spend. Don’t you?
  25. I think this “rest day” is so overblown. The only teams with 3 players who have more games played this year than the Sox have gotten from Betts, Bogaerts and Devers are the Braves (Acuna, Freeman, Albies) and the Phillies (Harper, Hoskins, Hernandez). Theres actually a better argument that Cora isn’t resting his key players enough...
