  1. I think Rodney is an awful pitcher. But he does have a track record. And really, the Sox could have DFAd 31yo career minor leaguer Josh Smith to make space. He’ll clear waivers and can be resigned. But I don’t get why Dombrowski decides he wants to try and get by with career minor leaguers like Ryan Weber while avoiding career Major Leaguers like Fernando Rodney. Especially when they cost the same...
  2. The Sox might be better off trading for Ian Kennedy than signing what’s left of Kimbrel...
  3. Why is Pedroia’s contract the poster child for bad contracts? Because he got hurt and couldn’t perform? That’s cold. Did it become the epitome of bad deals right after the injury? Or should Dombrowski use hindsight to make all his contracts? Compared to other contracts like Price and Sandoval, Pedroia have the Sox a bargain. And if you don’t like the Pedroia deal, then you should be advocating to deal Betts. Because his deal is going to be monstrous in terms of years and money. And there is a chance he will get hurt at some point during the deal...
  4. Nationals sign Fernando Rodney. Not that this guy was a surefire upgrade, but it makes me wonder what it would take to get Dombrowski to act at all. And especially in a situation with. NO RISK. Sure Rodney could suck. As could Kontos or Rzepczynski or any other reliever on waivers. So? Release them. Done. Not even a significant financial risk...
  5. Is revenue down?
  6. So the plan to “blow up the roster” involves trading away most of the potential free agents and giving away ERod and Barnes? So the idea is that people who can’t handle two months of not winning think the Sox need to go into a rebuilding mode, which typically takes longer than two months...
  7. And do you have any empirical evidence that he is doing it incorrectly?
  8. Sure, although bear in mind Beeks netted the Sox an oft-injured mid-rotation starter for only 3 months. What do people think Dalbec is worth?
  9. Sale has held hitters to a .655 OPS with men on base and a .669 with RISP. Also a .646 OPSA in Late and Close situations. In High Leverage situations, his OPSA is .794 in 42 PA. Most of this is carried by singles, as he has only allowed 1 HR in these at bats and has an 18/2 K/BB ratio. (Although he has 3 hit batsmen). In his 12 starts, he has faced the Yankees, Astros and Rays 5 times! (Sox are 1-4 in those games.) He was also victimized by very poor run support in some of his favorable match ups, such as being on the wrong end of an Aaron Brooks 1-0 shutout. Yes, Aaron Brooks.
  10. And yet many before the season thought the Sox in 2018 were not a playoff team at all...
  11. Cash might also use his opener like Yarborough. Honestly, against Boston in a WC game, if I was managing TB, I'd want to go with Charlie Morton anyway...
  12. I was not a fan of Beeks and I'm really not all that high on Dalbec. It also would not surprise me if Dombrowski committed board heresy and moved Chavis...
  13. If Dalbec was a Yankee prospect, he’d be tradable for ace pitching...
  14. Dalbec is a Three True Outcome guy...
  15. Not the point. The point is baseball did well because of the enhanced home runs and record challenges at the time. Just like how every game in America switched over to watch Pete Rose bat once his streak reached 40 games...
  16. While I agree this team needs a reliever, quoting just those numbers is misrepresenting it. The Sox have 12 saves and 28 holds against 9 blown saves. Since a blown save could have been either a save or a hold. The team that leads MLB in blown saves with 15 is the Mets. You know, the team that took the contract of Robinson Cano so they could acquire Edwin Diaz. And also signed Jeurys Familia and Justin Wilson...
  17. The idea of spending on nobodies is typically to give them short term deals and flip them mid season for minor leaguers...
  18. Not in 1998 when it was McGwire and Sosa. When McGwire got to 60, games were nationally televised. But yes with Bonds...
  19. It’s cold to treat him like everyone else (with the exception of his excusable typing)? He comes out here for baseball discussion, not to be pushed aside under the guise of respect...
  20. Exact same thing. Resting a player is not playing him. So you want proof that rested is better than tired?
  21. The only reason to make Sale the closer is they never win his starts anyway. But no. Even if the Sox had 1998’s Mariano Rivera out there, they’d only have 2 more wins. They’ve won 3 starts from Sale. And considering they’ve only scored more than 4 runs in a Sale start twice in 12 games - and they scored 5 and 6 runs in those games - it’s not really a guarantee they can simply plug in anyone else and get the same or better results...
  22. Last year was fun, but really once they jumped out to a 16-2, there were all but unchallenged the rest of the way, including the postseason....
  23. Home runs are good for business, as we all saw in 1998. Chasing untouchable records is as well. MLB would absolutely LOVE a player to challenge DiMaggio’s hitting streak or come close to hitting .400...
  24. The only day off since May 16 was yesterday’s rainout and the team got a couple really short starts, one from illness, that have helped tax a fairly mediocre bullpen? I think that’s a factor.
  25. So you’re arguing for evidence that the players should not get any rest for the next two months? You want proof that rested is better than tired?
