  1. I like JBJ but in no way is he any type of insurance on Mookie’s departure. Mookie is an MVP. Bradley is a one time All Star with good defense and remarkably inconsistent offense who is set to make $10-12mill. Obviously we don’t know for certain if a reset is in the plans, but it makes more sense to do it after 2019 than 2020. Resetting after 2019 allows the Sox to spend HEAVILY on Betts at minimal penalty. Resetting after 2020 would mean Betts is definitely not coming back. I expect JD to stay, but obviously the only man he’ll be talking to is Scott Boras. But JD makes $23mill in 2020 and then his salary drops to $19.8mill for 2021 and 2022. As he can also opt out after 2020, I expect he might opt out after 2020 and try to get a 3-4 year deal at a lower AAV...
  2. Yes but affording Corbin and Torres and Judge is another matter...
  3. There may be some truth to their criticisms, but sometimes sports journalists both on radio and in the papers can be overly critical or simply work with less information. And far too often they only look at the short term. For example, ripping Cashman for not signing Corbin. Sure, Corbin would have been great this year, but that contract runs through 2025. That’s a long time to be paying $25mill to a pitcher who gets hurt a lot. And if Corbin spend the next 6 seasons on and off the IL, will the stance of these radio guys change? If paying that much to an injured Corbin got in the way of paying arb contracts to Torres and Judge, those same radio talking heads who are ripping him for not getting Corbin would suddenly start ripping him for getting Corbin. Cashman isn’t perfect, but he has done a lot of good for the Yankees...
  4. Although it’s not like those contracts were all that equal...
  5. So who goes? Curletta, Smith, and ? Weber?
  6. Yes. Go Colts. And take the Pacers with you...
  7. Click on "Sortable Schedule" from that same drop down and you can access the remaining 2019 games...
  8. The only player on the 40-man roster we haven't seen this year is Joey Curletta, who's hitting .205 with a .657 OPS in Portland. Is your belly button puckering and unpuckering with excitement too? The only players who might even be somewhat intriguing who might be called up are Dalbec, Chatham, and Reyes, but none of them are really killing it in the minors right now. (Dalbec is somewhat impressive, but his .234 BA in Pawtucket doesn't scream "promote me!" We might see Dalbec and/or Reyes, I guess. But we have to DFA a couple people first. I nominate Curletta and Smith...
  9. And maybe someday, Kyle Wren...
  10. Start a thread about 2020 if that’s what you want to discuss. People who don’t want to talk about it yet or want to focus on 2019 can just avoid it and talk on those dedicated treads...
  11. Oh his anger-filled attitude was a dead giveaway...
  12. Did you really take “nothing left to prove at third” seriously?
  13. Odd from you. I take it you think he has nothing left to prove at third?
  14. More than Rivera?
  15. Better than SF QB CJ Beathard? Granted this one is only funny in print
  16. Which he said about them why?
  17. If only they were clean like the Yankees...
  18. So you share a birthday with Yaz and a name with Fred Lynn?
  19. I find it hard to believe, and I rarely wave the ehite flag this early. But at the very least, I am trying to keep the optimistic ones from giving up...
  20. Because: 1) Garcia has already crushed his season high in IP for the year. 2) Hernandez, Dull, Lyons and Betances are all Major League pitchers capable of contributing the garbage innings you would need an additional reliever for anyway. 3) The post-season is no time to find out what adjustments Garcia needs to make for the Majors. 4) Unlike Valera, Garcia is not an infielder. I doubt Valera makes the postseason roster, but if he does there will be a reason that Garcia is not the answer for. Garcia will be added to the 40-man roster with plenty of time to keep him from the Rule 5 Draft....
  21. Big deal. Fenway Franks have a shelf life of 150 years...
  22. In Fenway? Maybe not. At Yankee Stadium? Absolutely...
  23. Too many remember him solely for popping out to Graig Nettles to end the 1978 season. Why no one remembers his home run off Ron Guidry earlier in that game is beyond me. Especially since the 39yo Yaz became only the second lefty to homer off Guidry that season...
  24. Nomar had nothing on Mike Hargrove. Remember him? His nickname was "The Human Rain Delay". After every pitch, he stepped out of the box, adjusted his helmet and his gloves, and took 3 practice swings. And then, sometimes, readjusted his helmet and gloves. Sometimes he would step in the box and step back out and do it all over again. And that sequence all happened without fail after EVERY PITCH! And to make matters worse, he was a very selective hitter and took a lot of pitches. And to really compound the issue, as he was not only a pretty good hitter, but he was especially good at drawing walks, he frequently hit leadoff. He could come up 5 times a game!! And did so alot!! When Hargrove came up, you had time to go to the fridge and get a snack. And if there was nothing good to snack on, you actually had time to go to the store and buy something good. And you had to, because many people starved to death waiting for his at bat to come to an end. In retrospect, Nomar wasn't so bad...
  25. Let's just hope the WC team knocks them out. So root against Tampa, as the Yankees (12-5) have owned them this season. But Oakland (2-0) and Cleveland (4-3) have winning records against them...
