  1. Why is Gallen even coming up? Has anyone seen the year he is having? If for some reason the goal is to add a former NL West pitcher with an ERA over 5, let’s just keep Buehler…
  2. At might be a premature conclusion based on one draft. Breslow’s predecessor drafted bats heavily over arms to bulk the number of blue chip prospects in the system. Breslow is balancing things out considering the weakness of the pitching in the Sox system these past few seasons…
  3. On BTVs model, that Sox offer is short by $10mill in surplus value aka still not enough. If giving up Tolle is an obstacle to acquiring a two-time All Star with only two years experience, you might be overvaluing him. Tolle is the easiest inclusion of the three IMO…
  4. The Twins aren’t just trying to unload Ryan; if they move him, it will be for some pieces they bite as key to the future. As Ryan has 2 1/2 years left on his deal,! This is far from urgent. It’s possible that if Boston asks about Ryan, the Twins say “Roman Anthony or no deal”. This kind of demand is actually fairly common…
  5. It will take a lot more than Mayer. Would you trade Mayer, Campbell and Tolle?
  6. It seems to me like if the pro-metric folks promote their viewpoint, thats condescension. If the pro-baseball card stat side promotes their viewpoint, that’s just defending their opinion. I’m not complaining. Just an observation…
  7. The only difference is errors appear in a box score; defensive runs saved do not…
  8. Devers was asked to replace Casas and he doesn’t get excused just because Toro and Gonzalez were able to pick up the slack. Sure he might have been promised third, and he had it for two seasons. And in that time, he lost it. He has more than enough opportunity to not be the worst defensive 3b in MLB. But he counting do that. Does a promise override his weak play? And was it really even a promise? Who knows what was actually said. If Devers did want a promise, they were working on his contract right then and there; why not add it on? Now THAT would be a promise…
  9. Devers made it clear he was not going to be a team player. He didn’t take the position switch to DH very well despite his, I’ll be kind, lackluster play at third. (If he isn’t the worst defensive 3b in MLB, he’s really, really close.) And then when an injury forced the Sox to rearrange aging, he flat out refused. Yes he refused to help his own team adjust to losing a starter to injury. Exactly why are you overlooking that? It’s not like the Sox fabricated that story, either. It’s from his own interpreter’s mouth. So either he’s a selfish player or bad at hiring interpreters…
  10. But anyone who keeps him out of the top 20 clearly has an axe to grind…
  11. This says gets me - what exactly is a #2 starter? Is Merrill Kelly one? Or Mitch Keller? Or do the Sox need Mackenzie Gore or Freddy Peralta? Or are they #1 starters? Backup catcher is a small problem, agreed. But it’s also the easiest one to fill. If they can get a reasonable one for Nick Sogard or Connor Wong, why not? Bullpen help is every team every year. But yes, the Sox need some. Not necessarily Emmanuel Clase. But bring in an arm or two. 1b is a big need. Toro/Gonzalez are absolutely not going to keep up this torrid pace. Fortunately for Boston, it’s also a position rarely in demand at the deadline. Rhys Hoskins made sense, especially after Milwaukee acquired 4’2” Andrew Vaughn. But he went and got himself hurt. Other available names include Josh Naylor (real name Joshua-Douglas James Naylor), Josh Bell (real name: Joshua-Douglas Evan Bell), and Ryan O’Hearn. My bellybutton is not puckering and unpuckering with delight. I suppose Naylor aka JDJN and his cartoon villain resemblance is the top dog…
  12. Taking age into account? Those guys all played into their late 30s (and beyond for Yaz) and those declining years brought their OPS down. As it will for Devers one day…
  13. Outside of the issues Devers himself had no issues airing, I didn’t think he was such a bad guy. But he definitely was not one to do whatever it takes to help the team…
  14. Depth is important and can be temporary, but I have no problem with the idea of trading deoth to fill gaps. But make good, fair, smart trades. Just because you have an elite first base prospect behind your young slugging first baseman doesn’t mean you should trade said prospect for Larry Andersen…
  15. Especially if he thinks errors are meant to validate defense. They’re not. Their purpose is to explain baserunners who got on base (or took an extra base) on a batted ball due to poor defensive play. That’s why no error is awarded if a flyball is dropped but a runner is forced out a second. Or on a flubbed double play grounder that only gets one runner. Using errors to evaluate defense is like using wild pitches to determine pitcher control…
  16. Well, if it can’t be done in MLB: The Show, I can see the crisis. You should have opened with that. :) But if there is any validity, is there a pitcher you can (off the top of your head) recall that was blatantly snubbed?
  17. Those extensions will still look good even with some regression. Some…
  18. A point I’ve been countering (with examples) for some time now…
  19. TPYM blocked me for talking down to a Yankee troll, but most of his posts boil down to “you people just don’t understand this game like I do.”
  20. And anyone who thinks errors are clear cut and obvious has never watched MLB. And probably argued with their son after T-ball games. ”Daddy I got 3 hits today! I got 3 hits!” ”Actually son. Those were errors. You hit the ball right at the other team. They just couldn’t catch COVID if they licked every door knob in 2020.” ”But I hit the ball!” :: tears::: ”Yeah. Off a tee. What kind of league is this? Can they at least get a tee that acts like a curveball?”
  21. Duran to Philadelphia. Philly 21yo SS prospect Aiden Miller to Pitt. Mitch Keller to Boston. Doesn’t work on BTV unless Philly also send AA LHP Moises Chace to Boston as well. Chace, however, is out for the rest of the year (and probably half of next year) after TJ. So someone else?
  22. Doubtful Skenes can be had without giving up one or both of Mayer and Anthony. BTV accepts a package of Campbell, Abreu, Arias and Tolle. But would Pittsburgh? Should Boston?
  23. Will Gallen and his 0.2 bWAR really cost more than Kelly? Both are 2 month rentals, so age isnt really a factor. Gallen is having a horrible year interrupted by the occasional good outing. Not sure if he can bounce back in two months. Expensive or not, avoid!
  24. I predict either Cabrera or Alcantara to the Cubs for OF Owen Caissie. Book it…
