    Not sure why you keep bringing up Crochet. His career doesn’t change that Hunter Greene has very obvious durability issues. And citing “only started less than 22 games one time in 4 years” really isn’t the evidence against this that you appear to have presented it as. Greene has talent. No one questions that. I would overpay for him. But not to the level many seem to think it would require. It’s all moot anyway because if the Reds are trading him, they know something. They’re not moving their ace to get outfield offense. The Sox need hitting, too, but you don’t hear rumors about trading Crochet. Greene will be a Red next year. I feel much more confident about that statement than I do about saying the same for Lodolo, and especially for Singer…

    It doesn’t help that Boston is saddled with media that lives pushing conspiracy theories. This past year, I kept seeing stories about Devers being traded solely so Liverpool could afford their new star. This story was concocted because bad news sells, unlike good news. And it ignored that 1) Liverpool FC is far wealthier than the Sox and 2) that star (Florian Wirtz, who apparently was not Arya’s fencing instructor) made peanuts compared to Devers.

    I love the idea of Paredes at Fenway. Granted, he would set records for wall ball singles, which is not a bad thing. Defensively, he putters around average for a 3b. Also not bad. Not great, but not bad. Both he and Duran have 3 arb years left and both probably make about $8mill this year. Paredes is a 2-3 bWAR player, whereas Duran is more of a 5-6bWAR player. BTV absolutely hates it as a 1 for 1 deal, with Paredes having a surplus value of $8.7 mill and Duran having one of $70.3 mill. But it is a need-for-need trade and something could be worked out. Giving up Duran or not, Paredes is a good idea for Boston. And a potential surplus for Houston, who acquired Cam Smith in the same trade…

    Possible. But do you think the Sox will (not can, not should, but will) DFA Yoshida and pay him $36.4mill, pay Alonso, pay Bregman, and then pay Hoskins and still offer arbitration to Casas?

    Or the Sox re-investigate the availability of blocked prospect Dalton Rushing. Reportedly the Dodgers were trying to move him to the OF. Why not just deal him for an OF? He matches up nicely with Abreu on BTV, but Duran is a much better fit for the Dodgers. (Rushing alone should not be enough for a Duran.)

    Given who was coming up, I found myself yelling “bring in Munoz!” Lukes isnt so frightening but with Vlad just two hitters away? Bazardo has been up and down too often this postseason. Was he saving Munoz to face Varsho, Clement, and Barger in the 9th?

    “Star power” shouldn’t mean “expensive players that used to be really good.” Springer hadn’t been the 5-6 bWAR player in Toronto that he was in Houston. He’s been a good player, but his 14.4 bWAR in 5 years isn’t dramatically different that the 6.6 bWAR Wilyer Abreu has posted in just two. Do fans want good players or pricey players with big names and pasts they can no longer replicate?

    Also, might as well bring it up but if the Sox sign both Alonso and Bregman, why exactly would they need Hoskins? They still have Casas, and Yoshida isnt likely to go anywhere. How many 1b/DH types should they squeeze on to the roster? And what position should they eliminate to do so?

    Just because they can and they should doesn’t mean they will. As long as they win. If they go cheap with Hoskins or Bell at 1b and it works, i won’t complain about not having Alonso around until he’s 38 years old and f***ing up the Sox chances of extending Mayer or whoever…

    I expect it. I will say that those large and long contracts do often lead to ugly, detrimental contracts at some point. And for players already over 30, you don’t always get the great years up front to justify them. Even at his best years in Boston, David Price was NEVER the pitcher he was before coming here…

    I’m curtailing any excitement over major acquisitions beyond returning players. I love the idea of Ketel Marte, but it isn’t remotely likely. I carry significant (and possibly justified) doubts about Alonso. And I think I am more likely to play for the Sox than Kyle Tucker is, despite a talent gap best measured in light years. So at this point, I expect any 2026 lineup to look unexciting at this point. Of course I expect it to be an improvement of the postseason lineup that featured Romy Gonzalez and Nate Eaton on a regulated basis…

    Perfect replacement for Betts? In his first 4 years in Toronto, Springer was worth 9.6 bWAR. In his last 4 years in Boston, Betts was worth 34.2 bWAR. A quarter of the player for half the money isn’t a perfect replacement…
