  1. I wondered if it was hitting breaking balls. If so, and he was ignoring fastballs, it would certainly up his K rate and could even lead to hitting the ball the other way. But it likely doesn’t lead to less pitchers per PA unless other teams have caught on and Hes starting every PA down 0-2 after seeing two fastballs down the middle…
  2. … which is why I wouldn’t rule out dealing him. If it was me, I would only deal him for MY price. Not necessarily for best offer as I would be content holding him. But if, say, Philly offer Andrew Painter, I’m shipping Aroldis out. Not that in reality I expect that offer. (Painter was chosen because, among MLB.com top 100 pitching prospects on teams that need a closer, Painter’s #19 ranking was the closest to Gleyber Torres’ 2016 MLB.com ranking of 28.) It’s not the only offer I’d accept. But it’s an example..
  3. I know his numbers are not good. But are they not good because he is struggling with AAA pitching or because he’s doing some development program?
  4. Just release Toro already. Guy can’t hit anymore Can’t pitch either. And he hasn’t sold a single Fenway Frank. Someone remind again me what he brings to this team…
  5. It’s one thing to get shut down by Colin Rea or Cade Horton. But they scored twice against Zack Wheeler, whom Philly pays in excess of $40mill. AAV. He’s not paid that much because he’s easy to score off…
  6. History says the 38yo whose career depends on his ability to sling his arm such that his hand is traveling at 102mph…
  7. Fitts has options. A new acquisition is unlikely to. With no more waiver deadline in August, July 31st is the last chance to add any pitching depth from outside (barring deals for players who have not played in MLB this year). If the Sox acquire starting pitching, Fitts will be the one demoted regardless of performance, simply because no one else can be…
  8. If the Sox extend Chapman, his fastball might be pushing 70 at some point as well. Would getting the next Gleyber really be “future gazing”? He posted 3.4 bWAR as a rookie and made the All Star team…
  9. Yellow uniforms are the ugliest, but the Sox have had some serious hot streaks in them…
  10. I assess before and after. Some deals make sense beforehand but just don’t work out. It’s ok to acknowledge that…
  11. Same. Ive kicked myself for not thinking of ever even creating a site like MLBTR or BTV. Missing the BTV idea in particular annoys me because I’ve used sites that do the same thing for fantasy. It never occurred to me to make one that works for reality…
  12. … and defense. He didn’t start Mark Belanger at SS because he was afraid of missing out on those 9 RBIs…
  13. With Seattle and Texas involved, the deadline market for 1b is surprisingly competitive. But not so much that Naylor will command a huge price as a two month rental. I think every name mentioned on his own is an overlay here. And if AZ demands to much, move on towards O’Hearn or Bell or Hoskins or Santana or Diaz or Ty France…
  14. BTV gives Kelly $4.4mill surplus value and Naylor $3.1mill in surplus value. A “fair trade” would be 17yo OF Harold Rivas. But will that be enough for AZ? It seems like an easily beatable offer…
  15. One thing to keep in mind is that with no August waiver deadline anymore, July 31st is the last chance to trade for outside MLB starter depth. I don’t think anyone wants to see the deadline pass with no starters, only to then lose, say, Giolito and Bello for the season in mid-August. Fitts and Harrison can only carry this team so far…
  16. As mentioned multiple times, Anthony is apparently under the weather and limited to DH. If that’s the case and they don’t want to start Refsnyder vs RHP, Yoshida is the best option for OF. Yoshida did soend an entire season playing LF for Boston. Bregman hasn’t played 2b since 2018, where he logged a whopping 11 innings in that role. Now if you want to see Bregman at 3b, Mayer at 2b, Rafaela in CF, and Duran in LF, that’s another matter. But I think they still want Yoshida hitting…
  17. They are all playing. If Anthony is sick, that’s why he was flip-flopped with Yoshida. The only other option for LF would be Refsnyder. I think he has shown us his OF skill set. It’s tolerable when he can contribute by hitting LHP, but a liability when facing RHP…
  18. Good idea. That way Cora can save his day off for when he’s healthy.
  19. Obviously you put Yoshida in LF in the park with the deepest LF down the line, no foul territory and brick walls that use ivy as a safety feature. This ought to clear up that OF/DH depth problem…
  20. And both starters had rough first innings but then pitched very well. For Giolito to give up 3 ER three batters into the game but then only 1 ER over the next 5.1 IP Bello, too. Started the game with back to back HRs. Then gave up 4 H and one walk while getting 18 outs. Neither looked bad after a rough start. And neither was the problem…
  21. Not Abraham Toro, whose OPS vs LHP is worse than Abreu’s.
