  1. Huh? Buehler was an injury risk. Giolito was not, but got injured a lot since arriving. Sandoval was signed to a recovery/pillow contract. Crawford, Houck and Bello have had various injuries. But it’s hardly the same as acquiring frequently injured arms. Acquiring a pitcher immune to injury would be awesome. But it’s just remains impossible…
  2. Certainly possible. Maybe only for this year, but Boston might be better off letting someone else find out…
  3. Both B-R and Fangraphs give Crochet the edge over Rafaela. The difference in fWAR is Crochet by 0.9. bWAR has then only separated by a negligible 0.1. They also both have Narvaez as more valuable than Chapman…
  4. Sandy Alcantara. Free agent after 2026 with a $21mill option for 2027. Owed $25mill thru next year including $2mill buyout. Not having a good year at all. Still, BTV gives him a surplus value of $15.7 mill, roughly equal to Brandon Clarke ($16.3mill). But his past history and controllable cheap deal probably means he is worth more, especially given how many teams might be interested. Luis Severino might also be available. BTV has him as a straight salary dump…
  5. There are some Fungibles (Eaton, Sogard, possibly Grissom) that can be trimmed if necessary. Moving Hunter Dobbins to the 60 day IL will be the first move made to clear space when it’s needed…
  6. It’s actually all done with software now. It takes in launch angle, escape velocity, etc. and acknowledges that all, say, batted groundballs hit to shortstop are not equal and some are tougher plays…
  7. Especially now that Devers is having back issues. Although I wish him a speedy recovery…
  8. Relievers more likely to be available than Helsley: Carlos Estevez (KC) Felix Bautista and Seranthony Dominguez (Bal) David Bednar (Pitt) Nope. Steven Wilson (CWS) A clear sell high candidate Emmanual Clase (Cle) Reportedly available, but who knows? Kyle Finnegan (Was). Probably best avoided unless he’s dirt cheap…
  9. Barring a collapse over the next 2 1/2 weeks, I would agree…
  10. Probably, but hopefully Boston doesn’t go higher than Bleis for the 15-20 IP Helsley would get before departing…
  11. Well, let’s not completely blame Cora. I mean, it was Houck out there on the mound serving up meatball after meatball…
  12. Dobbins is done for the year. So that does leave the Sox relying on Buehler, who has been awful, or Houck, who this year had the two (not just one, TWO) worst starts in team history…
  13. Theres so many teams still in it, the market for any good starting pitcher will be full. RP is just as important. Although losing Dobbins was tough…
  14. And suddenly the Little Engine That Could is 12-19 in one run games….
  15. The Cubs? They don’t have room in their outfield for the MLB RBI leader…
  16. The talk of Duran to 1b, while a good idea, appears to have originated on this board. I don’t think the Sox have any such intentions…
  17. Four+ years of Abreu plus Garcia all for two months of Helsley plus two weeks exclusive time to negotiate a deal with him?
  18. And if you use fWAR, Helsley has more. Last year, you didn’t like Scott because he only had two good years supporting his career. Helsley might get a QO; he spent Be The wrist reliever to get one. No reliever has ever accepted (although Will Smith extended before receiving a QO he admits he would have accepted)…
  19. If you were Helsley, your agent might advise against it and remind you that the inferior Tanner Scott got a slightly lower AAV for multiple years…
