  1. But Hudson had already thrown up his stop sign!!! When Hudson was stopping him, Chisholm still had the ball! At that point, he didn’t know Chisholm was going to throw or just hold on for a second. If Chisholm doesn’t try for Yoshida - hardly uncommon on that type of play - Eaton is DEAD at the plate. Hudson didnt have the luxury you have had of reviewing that replay multiple times to make a decision. He had a second, msybe less. And when he made it, he had no way of knowing what Chisholm was going to do. With Story coming up, I get why he held him and say it was the smart move…
  2. Was Hudson supposed to know Rice was going to drop the ball. SoxS4 posted the picture. Eaton was ON THIRD BASE while Chisholm was getting to his feet. Hudson has no way of knowing if Chisholm is even going to make a throw. If Chisholm does hold that ball like many infielders coming out of a dive, Eaton is 3 full seconds away from home. Plenty of time for Chisholm to nail him at the plate. Even if he pauses briefly to check his Instagram first….
  3. Give it a rest. Kyle Hudson made the right decision. And even if Eaton scores that run, who was going to pitch the extra innings for Boston? Bring back Eovaldi for another 7 IP?
  4. An argument could be made that Yoshida (.667 BA in this series) earned a bigger role after the September he had…
  5. They did very well for what they had. Not many other postseason teams are starting Romy Gonzalez three state postseason games…
  6. This is not on Cora. But some fans think every loss means someone needs to be blamed and probably fired. Certainly no credit to the opposing team. The Sox either win or gave the game away. No third option…
  7. Not really. If you think that double by Bellinger was such as easy play, not sure what to say. Lowe botched a routine grounder. Beyond that, just lucky placements by the Yankees…
  8. And you remind us of John Fiedler aka the voice of Piglet. Same movie ;)
  9. It could have been but that was hardly a routine play. The only real poor defense was by Lowe…
  10. The only problem with that walk was the Yankees followed it up with two routine grounders that found the OF because the Sox were playing for a double play. Unlucky inning for Early. What was the hardest hit ball? The seeing eye groundball by Rosario?
  11. AI. Thats my new standard answer for how everything incomprehensible gets done…
  12. I didn’t mind Eaton there. If I’m going to argue for Abreu playing, I think he should have started over Duran (with Eaton in LF)…
  13. Look at the pictures Sox24 posted. Eaton in on third base as Jaz is getting to his feet. At this point, Eaton (who runs 29.7 feet/sec per StatCast) is 3 full seconds from home. If Chisholm makes a good throw to first base and it takes a full second and half - a slow play - Eaton is still 45 feet from home plate. Then Rice has 1.5 seconds to throw a ball 90 feet. If he throws a mere 60mph - roughly the speed of a bad high school fastball - the ball gets there in 1 second, 15 feet ahead of Eaton. Basically folks are mad at Hudson for not anticipating Rice dropping the ball. Hudson made the right call, it just didn’t work out. That can happen…
  14. With everything on the line, these starters might combine for 6 IP…
  15. Chisholm had 3 seconds to make a play - Thats how long until Eaton scores. Time to look to first and then look home where his play was. But whether or not he did it was irrelevant. The point is - Hudson had to acknowledge that possibility that Chisholm saw the play in front of him. Be sis if Chisholm did see it, the inning is over. Rice might have even had enough time has he caught the ball cleanly. The problem with this play was Hudson read it right, but too many “what ifs” That He didnt have time to ask about did happen. If Eaton gets nailed at the plate there with Story due up, do you defend the decision to send him?
  16. It was probably the right call. In the pictures you posted, Eaton is only touching third and Chisholm is already on his feet. Chisholm would have had an easy play at home. Sorry to let Butler off the hook. But holding Eaton was the right call…
  17. Never showers. And as horrible, horrible gas. 99% on StatCast…
  18. Stop. Eaton was not even at third base when Chisholm caught the ball cleanly. If Eaton was sent, he could easily have been thrown out at home. Hudson had no way of knowing where Chisholm was going to throw the ball. Holding Eaton was the safe move, especially with Story due up and Trevor had all the Sox RBIs and homered in his last at bat. It just looked worse because Rice dropped the ball, but it’s not like it rolled 20 feet away. Heck if Rice caught the throw cleanly, he might have had a chance to throw Eaton out, too. Too many are blaming Hudson for not reading the Yankees’ players’ minds and for not knowing the future…
  19. Duran over Verdugo in LF. Narvaez (2.8 bWAR) over Vazquez (1.2 bWAR) . I fully acknowledge replacement player values differ in those to seasons. But Narvaez is more than double here. One can debate Rafaela (4.8 bWAR) over Kike (4.9 bWAR), but your point is made. Except if Devers moved to 1b, where would Schwarber play?
  20. Platooning is small market stuff. “We can’t afford an actual good left fielder, so let’s get two much cheaper players with complimentary situational skill sets and save some cash.” You know some CBO somewhere has used those exact words….
