  1. While he brought in a lot for 2013, it was on the heels of unloading a lot in 2012. And even then, not one of those contracts was longer than 3 years…
  2. Cherington didn’t have the same kind of free rein to spend. He had to juggle salaries just to get Marco Scutaro on the roster at one point…
  3. No. What people are tired of is waiting on comebacks that don’t pan out. I don’t recall anyone being upset with Aroldis Chapman last year…
  4. I’d just assume go with Early. Focus on 3b/2b (or SS if an opportunity arises) and bullpen…
  5. That’s another option. Theres not much available for good shortstops on both sides of the ball right now. My prediction right now thr Sox will wind up with Alec Bohm at 3b. I have mixed emotions there. Most of them are not good…
  6. No. I will just repeatedly needle my daughter for stopping her dislike of him for the exact reason I did…
  7. If the Sox are focusing on run prevention, then get a better SS. Push Story back to 2b. Mayer is fine at 3b…
  8. My silver lining is I can go back to hating Alex Bregman, although he actually did seem to be a pretty positive addition overall. Still, it’s nice to have the option again. But I’ll probably see him play in person at least half a dozen times this year…
  9. Gallen isn’t horrible. I wouldn’t put him in the same class as Richard, Kluber, etc. Hes not coming off injury and he was worth over 12 fWAR from 2022-2024. He just had a rough 2025. He’s also somehow still only 30 and he looks like a high school chemistry teacher. His 1.1 fWAR in 2025 wasn’t that much worse than Bello (1.9 fWAR). Of course it’s also equal to what Early gave Boston in a microscopic 14 IP. I get why he rejected the QO. But the combination makes him much less desirable…
  10. And I’m predicting you won’t abide by this prediction…
  11. I’m not worried. I don’t think Gallen is on their radar, if only because of the QO…
  12. Gallen might not be worth giving up a draft pick for, unless he has a Chris Sale-esque comeback…
  13. Of course. Problem is, I can name one person who wouldn’t…
  14. I’m 99% certain Sox fans lump all the GMs/CBOs into two categories - Dombrowski and Not Dombrowski. Turns out Bloom and Breslow fall into the same category…
  15. So you think Breslow didn’t ask any questions?
  16. They unloaded like 10 players on 2 days and were one season removed from just missing the playoffs and they’re in a very weak division. That fire sale wasn’t about rebuilding or reloading…
  17. That might have been the biggest sell off in MLB history, and they held on to one of their most sought-after trade assets…
  18. Seranthony Dominguez is right-handed. But I agree that he’s still a better add than Danny Coulombe or Tim Mayza…
  19. It does make me wonder if it’s a common thing where players/agents report better offers than thy have to improve actual ones. We all know Boras uses “mystery team” to up the bidding…
  20. B-R would be better if they had adjustable leader boards…
  21. I said he was capable. But projecting a career year is optimistic, right? Seems like that’s how optimism works..
  22. I get the basic philosophy, but they take other factors into account. For example, when the Sox traded Betts, his surplus value was around $60mill. At the time, he was making $25 mill or so. Was someone really projecting a 10.5 fWAR season? He was certainly capable, but that still borders on optimistic…
  23. Well, in the last 2 seasons, Duran has been worth about 11 fWAR and Paredes closer to 6. At $8million per fWAR, thats a $40mill difference right there. The “units” BTV uses are worth about $1mill and called “surplus value”. So basically they are saying Duran’s fWAR converted into cash is worth about $49 million more than he will be paid in that time…
  24. That’s another issue. I prefer fWAR, but unfortunately B-R is more phone friendly so it’s easier to look up. Yes sometimes my criteria is that simple…
