  1. Which is fine, but it’s not like he sat when a guy he crushes is on the mound that day. It’s at least defensible.
  2. Analytics said it was a good time to rest Devers; he was 1-11 careerwise against that RH starter. And yes, small sample size, but really that’s all any batter has against any given pitcher.
  3. Saw a minor league game a couple weeks ago. Pitch clock was 15 seconds to throw a pitch if the previous pitch was a called outcome and 20 seconds if the ball was fouled off. It reset to 15 seconds after a ball in play and started as soon as the pitcher got the ball and was back on the mound. There weren't a lot of throws to first, but such action did reset the clock to 15 seconds. The first 5 innings were completed in slightly over 1 hour. The last 4 took about 1 1/2 hours due to pitching changes and increased scoring. Still, a 2 1/2 hour game. Now, the fact that it was in the 40s may have contributed.
  4. Anyone notice every time the Jays needed it to, that pitcher mic thing seemed to stop working?
  5. That one is not on Strahm. Got to give some credit to Espinal for hanging tough Diekman and Barnes are your villains.
  6. 2nd. Guerrero will be put on. Betting on a little dink that drops in to win it for Toronto
  7. Devers has done nothing against Gausman over his career (1-11 and I’m sure they have info as to what kind of contact Rafael has had against him). If you’re going to give him a day off, why not do it against a guy he’s really struggled with?
  8. I’d settle for a bloop single
  9. Devers is scuffling right now (around .100 over his last 30 or so PAs). He’s also 1-11 against Gausman, so the odds are this isn’t a pitcher he’s going to come out of it against. Probably as good a night as sny to sit him. PH late maybe?
  10. Other than Houck, who are they?
  11. Not sure why he didn’t come in for Hill. He’s got the next four days off. Made no sense to have him wait til the 8th.
  12. There have been several, including one by Rich Hill 4-5 years ago vs. the Pirates. Hill gave up a homer in the 10th to lose. A really bizarre one occurred on May 2, 1917. The Reds’ Jim Tobin threw a complete 10 inning no-hitter against the Cubs. The Cubs’ Hippo Vaughn no-hit Cincinnati through 9, but gave up 2 hits in the 10th to lose 1-0. It is the only game in MLB history where both teams were held hitless for 9 innings.
  13. Agreed. It’s not the first one he’s bounced, usually on balls hit to his right.
  14. If Gamecast is at all accurate, Dirkman is getting squeezed big time me.
  15. Actually, notin did a marvelous job of mocking him. Whether or not he should have is a different question.
  16. Dalbec ripped it (103 mph off the bat), but right at Chapman. 5 feet either way the game is tied.
  17. He definitely gets the first one. Arroyo got the tip of his glove to it. Hard to say on the second one, but it also would not been needed had the first one been caught.
  18. The combined exit velocities of the first 3 hits might have totaled the one on Baez’s double.
  19. IIRC, they talked about it but with the shortened spring training and the limited times they can yank guys up and down to and from the minors, they decided to keep it for this season. I believe it’s gone next year, but who knows. I think they could compromise. Play it traditional for 12 and then use the runner in the 13th.
  20. Both were hit pretty hard, just not very high. Doubles in virtually every other park.
  21. Rizzo’s was a shot but Stanton’s and LaMahieu’s were definitely cheapies.
  22. Doesn’t he need to play his way onto the roster? He’s at best on a minor league deal right now; I know he’s not on the 40 man.
  23. I think he’s on a minor league deal.
