    He’s only 26 and in his 6th season already. He wouldn’t be the first guy to start to figure things out around that age.

    Yes, this was his 57th career start (his 111th game). Most of his starts were in 2018, 2019 and 2021.

    Not a hard thrower by any definition (I remember reading his fastball was timed with a calendar) but fantastic control. Of course, after three years of facing the German Army, major league hitters probably didn’t seem too scary.

    Small typo - Spahn was 218-147 over his age 33+ seasons. However, unlike the guys mentioned above, he really didn’t start his major league career until age 25; he only had a couple minor league seasons out of high school and a brief cup of coffee with the Braves in 1942 prior to spending the next 3 years throwing grenades in Europe instead of baseballs.

    Exactly and well said gentlemen. The GOAT had 80 blown saves over his career, including “blowing” the pennant on back to back nights in the 2004 ALCS. Statistically, he failed about 10% of the time. As good as he is, Jansen ain’t Rivera.

    Every pitcher has teams he dominates and teams he struggles with. This pitching matchup does not favor the Sox. Career vs, Boston, Manoa is 4-0 in 6 games with a 1.46 ERA and a 0.919 WHIP. Career vs. Toronto, Pivetta is 1-4 in 12 games with a 5.83 ERA and a 1.551 WHIP. Pivetta is also a #4-5 starter, Manoa is a very good #2 or a #1 on a lot of teams.

    Exactly. This was Brasier’s 10th appearance this year. He’s given up runs in 3 of them. You’d think by the way people react on here, he’s lit up every time. The biggest problem with him is when he does give up runs, he gives them up in bunches. He gave up 3 on opening day against the O’s. He then had 3 scoreless appearances (allowing one hit and one walk in those 3 games). Then he gave up 3 against the Tigers, followed by 4 more scoreless games (2 hits allowed with a save). Then tonight. He’s serviceable, nothing more.

    Not sure why you would say it’s a complete mismatch favoring the Twins. Gray’s career vs. the Red Sox: 1-7 in 10 games (9 starts), 6.80 ERA Career at Fenway: 0-4 in 6 games (5 starts), 8.02 ERA Now, that means he’ll probably toss a no-no. Edit - that last sentence didn’t age well.

    Taking 3 of 4 from any team is a good thing, and let's not pretend that this was a pitching matchup that favored the Red Sox. The rain allowed them to come back and make it close once it forced Ohtani from the game; I don't think the Sox were going to do much with him had he been able to remain on the mound.

    He just trolling as he is wont to do when the Sox are trailing. If the Sox are winning, he's nowhere to be found. To be fair, Jeter was a terrible shortstop, but my recollection is that while he had no range, if he got to the ball, he made the play. Kike has no range and is not making plays on the balls he gets to.

    Blackout only applies for 3 teams? I envy you. Where I live in western Illinois (on the border with Iowa), MLB applies Iowa’s blackout rules to us, meaning I can’t see games involving the Cubs, White Sox, Cardinals, Brewers, Twins and Royals. For the last couple years, I was getting around that via the use of a VPN (I’d connect through Phoenix or Salt Lake City) but they clamped down on that late last year. Figuring I’d be subject up blackout for roughly 20% of the season, I did not renew. Joe and Will on XM radio have been fine.

    He got some nasty stuff; I can see why he had a no hitter last year. Wouldn’t shock me to see him get another at some point in his career.

    Bleier did okay for his first 3 hitter; two ground ball singles and a bunt. The wheels came off after that.

    The first game of this series was 1-0 on a Rays homer in the 8th. I’d say effort by that surpasses this one.

    They are lucky but they force their own luck. Put the ball in play, run the bases well. They are totally relaxed no matter who takes the mound or comes to the plate; if player A doesn’t get it done, they know the next guy will. No pressure.
