    He’s an ass. He had the apartment next to mine 40ish years ago when he was just starting out at the Moline Dispatch. He was an arrogant putz despite that being his first job. I was friends with his boss (the sports editor) who shared my opinion of him. Nothing I’ve seen in the intervening decades has changed my view of him.

    No, it’s not. Christian Arroyo was injury prone. Bregman is no Arroyo. As for it getting worse, that is pure speculation on your part. You might be right, but you also could be wrong (I know, that’s hard for you to fathom). IMO, his contract demands exceed his worth. A .275 lifetime hitter without a ton of power isn’t worth $40M. He’s a good player, he’s not a superstar. I foresee a repeat of last year where he signs in February somewhere. Coming off the injury isn’t going to help him in this regard, but his career performance is what will drive the $

    I don’t get the injury prone narrative. He missed a couple months with a left quad strain in 2021 and he missed a couple months with a right quad strain this year. His first 3 full seasons (2017-19), he played in 155, 157 and 156 games. 2020 was Covid. From 2022-24, he played 155 161 and 145 games. That’s not the history of an injury prone player. If you want to say that the money he wants isn’t worth it based on his overall career numbers, we can have that conversation. Injury history isn’t a valid reason IMO.

    Could be. He is coholder of the MLB record for most putouts in an inning by a catcher, which of course is 3. Yes, he actually caught 1 inning in 1987 in the 10th inning of a game against the A's. Unfortunately, the A's scored 7 times but all three outs were by strikeout.

    Refsnyder and Steve Pearce come to mind. Going back further, Don Baylor and even further, El Tiante. Ruth might be stretching it a bit. Any least favorite list has to include Brett Gardner (aka penishead).

    This is not a true statement. Yes, he had a previous quad strain. However, Bregman’s injury this year was a right quad strain. In 2021, he was on the IL for a left quad strain. Not the same body part and 4 years ago, hardly indicative of being injury prone. Now, he is 32 and his previous 3 seasons have been trending down, which to me is more of a concern than an injury history (Mayer comes to mind regarding injuries).

    Schwarber is not leaving Philly. He’s had 4 incredible years there, they are consistent contenders, he likes it there and they have a GM willing to spend money.

    Neither you nor anyone else here has any idea who was pursued and even less of an idea of what were the asking prices. Another starter was indicated, but I’m hard pressed to recall anyone resembling a front line starter being dealt at the deadline at all, indicating the asking prices were astronomical. There will be moves in the offseason via trade. Assuming Cheapo Henry will allow it, there’s money to spend as well.

    To be fair, Early was decent enough tonight. He was let down by some less than stellar defense, some lucky placed hits and had the misfortune of facing a guy at the absolute top of his game. He’s never going to be a top of the rotation guy but he can be a solid #3. If I had to give a comparison, Bill Lee comes to mind (Early throws harder, but the other stuff is similar).

    He’s been better than good, he’s been fantastic. His fastball was located well, his secondary stuff was excellent and located. He may never throw a game this good the rest of his career, but I’m betting he will. He’d have shut down any lineup in the majors tonight.

    I’ve as much said all that a couple times. It was a tough play but one we’ve seen Rafaela make multiple times this year. If it hit 10 feet in any other direction, it gets caught by someone. I still think Abreu cutting in front of him last night (?) where they almost collided may have affected it but we’ll never know.
