  1. Nice rant, but he’s safe if Bogaerts doesn’t push him off the base (which is against the rules).
  2. Yep. OB and Merloni said their pen was excellent, but what we’ve seen tonight is sick.
  3. Nah, overall he’s been fine for a middle to back of the pen reliever. This was his 13th game and the 4th time he’s been scored on. It’s only the second time he’s allowed 2 or more runs. He had nothing tonight; it happens. No need to worry unless it becomes a regular occurrence.
  4. It also could simply be a case of putting it together for one year. See Porcello, Rick.
  5. Still need a #4 in the playoffs unless you plan on guys going on 3 days rest.
  6. Yup. It’s the ball park. He’s 7-0 at Petco with a 1.99 ERA, a WHIP of .788 and a K/BB of 6. He’s been a little more pedestrian on the road: 4-3, 3.67 ERA, 1.136 WHIP, K/BB of 3
  7. Sounds like a guy trying to get released; who can blame him.
  8. TYPM has an almost pathological hatred of Cora, so take whatever he says about Alex with a lot of salt. As for Breslow, I agree with you on the computer model statement but he kinda has to stick to the owners salary restrictions if he wants to keep what I’m sure is a pretty high paying job.
  9. I disagree, it’s not horse hockey. It’s one of mule fritters, buffalo bagels or pony pucks.
  10. I’m more concerned about what they gave up for May.,
  11. Might be a slight upgrade over Fitts for the #5 slot in the rotation, but hardly a big difference making move.
  12. Who knows with Henry? Maybe he got excited about the idea not having to pay anything and changed his mind on the focus. Per Spotrac, the Sox are $41,000 under the first CBT level; no idea if that includes Matz or not.
  13. I think Breslow’s only worried about it because Henry says CB should be worried about it. I’m not a big Breslow guy, but he’s not making these types of decisions.
  14. They've already announced Crochet will be skipped on Friday; nothing wrong, just a preplanned break. And before you start screaming they are babying him, it's not unusual for teams to do that with pitchers who have thrown a lot of innings, and August is often a month they do it in.
  15. Bello not sharp today. Pen is going to be taxed even if he keeps it close. Edit - pitch count not as high as I thought it was. 45 through 3 innings isn’t awful. Middlebrooks had a good point, some of those pitches are moving too much.
  16. He was a train wreck when he played for Minnesota. He hasn’t been too bad for the Sox except for the last 2 nights, which could be attributed to “I’llshowyouitis”. Don’t use him in high leverage situations and he’s acceptable for a back end piece of the pen.
  17. So what’s the worst that happens, the young players get a little taste of postseason baseball now even if it doesn’t result in winnng it all?
  18. No he’s not, unless he comes in for a relief inning in Game 7 of the World Series (not happening in a LCS) or there’s rainouts. No pitcher goes on 3 days rest anymore and haven’t for close to 50 years.
  19. The team does have more patience than us. Yoshida’s start reminds me of a player who, in his first 42 PAs this year was hitting .176 and slugging .294. Coincidently, he also had a limited spring training. Devers took off offensively after that. Note - I AM NOT COMPARING THE TWO, but just a Devers didn’t forget how to hit, neither has Yoshida. Masa is a solid hitter
  20. Follow-on to my earlier posts about using Hicks after the delay. Whitlock apparently was sick and unavailable. Prior to the tarp going on the field, Hicks was announced and entered into the line-up card. Lou Merloni said on the radio side that there is no exception to the 3 batter rule in that situation, so Cora was forced to use Hicks for at least 3 batters. But with Whitlock and Chapman unavailable, the Sox only had 6 arms in the pen. They ran through Murphy, Alcala, Bernardino and Weissert, leaving Hicks and Wilson (who pitched Saturday and Sunday and may not have been available either). They were screwed no matter what they did unless they used Weissert for a second inning or a starter.
  21. Whitlock should have been, but who’s available is info we never have. The problem with Buehler and Fitts back to back is BP guys are forced into overuse.
