  1. Well, you might get your wish; that had oblique written all over it.
  2. Only place he could have hit it (okay, a chopper to the mound doesn’t work either) and not scored the run.
  3. As I said to Splendid, from Romy’s view on the field, it had to have looked like the LF had caught the ball; it certainly went into it briefly, so I can see why he went back. Even if he he had seen it pop out, he would have gotten only to 3rd (Anthony probably is on 2nd in that case), which is exactly where they ended up after the bad throw by the catcher.
  4. I’ll give Romy a break on that one; from field level, it had to have looked like the LF had caught it and he had to get back. (And now thanks to the Jays catcher, it ended up exactly the way it would have). Edit - and in true Sox fashion, don’t take advantage of it.
  5. Houck had a career half season. He was pretty bad after the ASB.
  6. They just posted Houck’s rehab stats today; they were ugly again.
  7. That’s why he only gets used in games where you fall well behind early and you don’t really care if he gets hit so long as he can save the rest of the pen some innings.
  8. Sox are going to pay him one way or another. If they release him, someone probably takes a shot on him for the prorated portion of the MLB minimum.
  9. Yeah, he doesn’t even offer potential long relief to eat up innings that Buehler does. And I’m not advocating keeping Walker.
  10. IMO, if they choose to keep him, Buehler should be relegated to the long relief role Newcomb had early on. He only comes in if the starter has a bad day and it doesn’t really matter if he does well or not.
  11. Unfortunately, that aged well for about an hour.
  12. They hit him in one inning; haven’t done anything in the other 4.
  13. Sad thing is he should have been out of the inning on the Eaton play. OTOH, it took two tremendous plays to get the first two outs so maybe it evened up.
  14. That may very well be the message Cora is sending to Breslow. As Middlebrooks said, the matchup doesn’t matter if the pitcher isn’t throwing strikes.
  15. Narvaez can’t catch every game; no catcher can. The backup is going to get 1-2 starts per week. That’s true on every team. Narvaez is already showing signs of some fatigue. Wong is having a horrible year and you’ll get no argument from me on possibly upgrading from him, but he’s what they have right now and he is going to play a couple times a week.
  16. Alright, a position player sighting on the mound. Gotta love it.
  17. Rafaela didn’t bust it out of the box there, but that actually turned out to be fortuitous; LF made an almost perfect play and a good accurate throw that probably nails him at 2nd if he had tried to go.
  18. Wouldn’t shock me to see Bello actually get through 6 allowing only the 3 runs for another “quality” start.
  19. Only half of them; the other half are Blue Jays fans who came down. That’s part of the Henry dilemma; the only thing that will affect his view is less people in the stands, but opponents fans keep filling up the stadium.
  20. The announcers (both TV and radio) have said he’s throwing it 2 mph faster this year than he did last year, which means less drop. So it gets hit more and harder, so it gets called less,
  21. Bello wasn’t going to get to first in time on that chopper. Not quite ERod level but …
