  1. Radio guys are saying Cora indicated that the Sox may go the opener route after the break.
  2. Velasquez has been mediocre as a reliever (4.29 ERA in 13 games and 21 innings). He has been beyond terrible as a starter (6.95 ERA in 8 games and 22 innings). If you’re going to keep him on the staff, he should only be used in long relief.
  3. So you would hire a new manger each year?
  4. That was my thought. Of course, that just means #5 pitches Saturday in Detroit.
  5. Exactly. We can bitch all we want but who else is there right now for the #5 slot right now.
  6. The reality is the games are the easy part. It’s the other less glamorous 5-6 hours every day that the fans don’t think about. Physical therapy, film study, working on technique, extra fielding practice to improve. Travel. For the borderline player, always looking over your shoulder for the next phenom. Not to mention the constant media scrutiny on virtually everything you do. Just like any job, it’s a grind. A well paid grind, but still a grind.
  7. A play on Benny and the Jets. An Elton John song from the 70s. Kids:confused:
  8. The Jays can hit; what they can’t do is pitch.
  9. I've been listening to the radio play by play lately (Castiglione, etc.). Unlike the TV guys, they aren't sugarcoating things when they are suboptimal. They were talking last night about how Strohman has about worn out his welcome in the Jays clubhouse with his antics (they apparently go well beyond the Eck incident). Talent wise I would want him, but if he's that bad in the clubhouse ... OTOH, maybe he just wants out of a bad situation up in Toronto.
  10. SoxnCycles pulled up a post from Madstork from a year ago just to illustrate what an idiot the Stork is. Actually, calling Mad an idiot is an insult to idiots.
  11. Wish I could get that thumbs up emoji on my phone to work here.
  12. Moon, he’s lawyering you. No matter what you say, he will not budge. You’ve both made your points, and while the back and forth was interesting for a while ...
  13. A week or 2? He’s basically got to go through spring training again, and so far as we know, he’s not throwing at all yet. It would be a month minimum.
  14. There's about 16 million reasons that ain't happening.
  15. The Angels have had their share of premature deaths. Going back even farther, Lyman Bostock was shot to death; that had to be in the late 70s, and Donnie Moore in the 80s was also a tragic case.
  16. There's always one guy on who has the collar on a hitting night. Sanchez went 0-4 on Saturday for the Yankees
  17. Pitching coach can talk and give advice all you want. It’s up to the pitcher to actually follow through.
  18. Depends on how much he wants. Because he opted out, the Yanks are not on the hook for anything. Whoever signs him pays up full freight.
  19. It makes some sense; at this point to start he’s going to have to ramp up ala normal spring training. That’ll take 5-6 weeks and I don't think they have that kind of time.
  20. Was about to post that maybe the Sox can hold the Yanks homerless and end that streak. I guess I won’t type it
  21. A much overlooked loss in the pen was Hembree. He wasn’t always great, but he was pitching pretty well overall.
  22. Chavis had 2 chances to end the inning on that one and blew both.
