    The Rays are a lot better than you give them credit for. For one thing, they can pitch. They lead the league in ERA. They won 90 games last year. They may not be a World Series contenders but they are a decent team. That’s no excuse for the utter lack of competitiveness in this series. You lose 3 tight games, okay. Well not okay, but you’re in the game, you have a chance. It happens. This was pathetic and it all goes back to the starting pitching.

    Benintendi is the 11th player in Sox history with 3 doubles in a game without scoring a run. Ortiz was the last in 2011. Worst thing is they were all lead off doubles.

    They can’t trade him if he opts out, and even if he stays , he can still opt out after the 2020 and 2021 seasons. That’s going to make him much more difficult to trade.

    Depends on what kind of team they field. He gets more of a pass if they gut the team.

    I don’t think the “it” factor that all championship teams seem to have was never there and would not have been. It wasn’t going to be if Cora had run the tightest camp in the history of spring training.

    My response was due to the your statement that Castillo would be off the books. You are correct; they have to pay him anyway but he doesn’t cost extra unless they bring him up.

    Castillo is not on the books unless they bring him up. If they do, he counts thru 2021. Pedroia isn’t going to retire. He won’t play, but he’s not going to officially retire.

    Devers quits on a catchable foul ball that should have ended the inning.

    Vazquez is banged up from that foul off his knee last night; I don’t see him playing tonight.

    I don't see JBJ back. They can find someone to backfill at less cost. It wont save the entire $10M, but maybe half of it. Wright will be released, not that he saves that much. Leon will be gone as well. I think somebody may get a bit of a bargain with Porcello but it wont be the Sox. This is by far the worst year he's ever had; someone will take a flyer on him for a year at 1/3 of what he's making now. The Sox can't afford that chance.

    I'm guessing that there may have been brief inquiries on a few guys that were quickly rejected. Barnes may have drawn some interest as a 6-7-8th inning guy. Ditto Workman. I'm sure teams asked about Hernandez. The rest, no.

    Listening to the game with Castiglione and company and they made it sound as if it went over the pole, though now that I think about it, they may have said higher than the pole.

    After the first inning he smashed a couple. Didn’t help him in the second unfortunately.

    I’ve said it before, solo homers usually don’t really hurt you (provided you keep the number allowed reasonable). 3 run homers do. And there was a big of bad luck on it; went right over the foul pole and probably isn’t a homer anywhere else except Fenway.

    True; probably too soon to go back to back with him.

    Seriously, adding a piece or 2 wasn’t going to fix the team. Unless/until the starting pitching figures something out, it wasn’t going to matter.

    Yep. Like I said, later on give Eovaldi an inning to see if he can get some sharpness. Hernandez an inning or two for experience. Ditto Taylor. We know what the others gave (or don’t have).

    Porcello can be his own long man tonight. Use Eovaldi late to get some work in.

    You have to have stuff of value to get value; lack of moves is as much about the barrenness of the Sox farm system as anything else. They couldn’t plug one hole without creating another. Example, you trade Beni for a bull pen piece and backfill with who?

    You determined Taylor is not a ML quality pitcher from throwing to 1 batter? I don’t understand why you are here and not on the staff of some MLB team.

    When did Toronto or Baltimore pass us in the East?

    It wasn't a pop up, so I guess it goes down as a soft line drive (radio guys described it as a very soft liner).
