    Devers is 9th in the majors in average exit velocity (Judge leads). He also leads the majors in balls hit at 95+ mph (he has over twice as many as Judge by the way).

    Pineda (4 years) and Romine (8 years) have long time Yankee stench that never seems to wash off. And while that part is said sort of jokingly, I'm hard pressed to come up with any former Yankee, especially one with any measurable time in NY, who has done squat in Boston.

    Problem is they have to leapfrog 2 teams and Tampa is behind Oakland.

    There are 4 games left with Tampa, so the Sox could cut that deficit in half on their own. But not playing the A’s at all makes it very hard to make up ground on them.

    While Fenway is the smallest overall, there is a 32 foot wall in left and a 17 foot wall in center. Those make it more of a doubles park and many a line drive to left that would be out of a lot of parks can end up as singles. Yankee Stadium is more of a home run park because the wall is what, 9 feet high?

    Road rate includes the 43 or whatever it was they hit at Camden Yards. They’re all done with Orioles, so the road home run rate figures to take a dive.

    Yeah, I was royally pissed about that back then. Still am, although if you look at the tape, Fisk was clear of Armbrister by the time he made the throw; he just made a lousy throw.

    It was strike 3. Mercado was running and they sent him back because of the interference. Have wonder if Vaz had somehow gotten off a throw whether Mercado would have been called out as well.

    Travis stretched too soon on that. Got to see the throw and then stretch.

    Pretty good sequence by Bieber there. The first pitch change and the couple curves all started out at the level that last fastball came in at. Set him up really well. Bieber is a pitcher, not a thrower.

    No it didn’t. It was a way to try and get him back on the field and contribute faster. It would have taken him a month to build up his arm and ramp up to starters innings (ala spring training for most teams). He still would not have been there. It didn’t seem to work , but I don’t think it was because of any possible elbow issues.

    ERod giving up 5 was the main reason. Starters have an ERA over 8 the last couple weeks. That’s where games are being lost.

    It’s got to be extremely frustrating for the hitters. Fall behind, scratch and claw to tie it up and then watch the pitchers give it up. Wash, rinse, repeat.

    At least the River Bandits are playing actual home games now. Through the first 1/3 of the season, they had been in Modern Woodman for a total of 2 games due to the Mississippi River flood (it was in flood stage from late March until early June).

    Yep. Yaz hit .301. Cater actually hit .290. IIRC, there were 4-5 guys in the NL over .300. I think it was the worst offensive season of the live ball era.
