  1. Good grief, get over it. However much you wish he was "earning" it, multiply that times 1000 for Pedey's level of wish. He got hurt on the field. It wasn't doing something stupid off in the off season. He did everything he could to get back whenever he was hurt. He never sat out with a hangnail the way some guys do. He left it out on the field every time he played and often played when he probably shouldn't have. Save the angst for the Buchholz's of the world.
  2. Evans, Lynn and Rick Miller are obvious picks. Yaz for 4th choice? The only other OFs who played much back then were Juan Beniquez and Bernie Carbo. Of those two I’d have to go with Beniquez. I’m also guessing that Miller and Beniquez won theirs with other teams.
  3. Chacin elected free agency late last week (not that it really matters).
  4. 5GG, if you hit the little button that says Reply With Quote down on the lower right of a post, it will bring put the post you are responding to in a much more readable format than the quotation marks you seem to be using.
  5. I also wouldn't go back too far. Results from the 80s are really not relevant at this point; spending rules have changed, luxury tax, etc. Maybe stick with this century. And our sane Yankee backer above has a good point about losing seasons being taken into account; just off the top of my head it would impact the Astros ranking as they several horrific years early this decade while they were building their current juggernaut. Might tweak the win totals slightly though. 82-80 gets a point while 80-82 loses one, even though they are virtually the same season? Maybe with a 60-65-75-85-95-100 split, or something like it.
  6. Cashner, Chacin, Holt, Moreland, Pearce and Porcello all elected to become free agents today.
  7. From a team (franchise) standpoint, it was the Guardians before this series and still is. Cleveland now gets the longest city drought as well (1948).
  8. So what is your specific objection?
  9. Given how the relievers have s*** the bed, maybe Hinch should have left Greinke in.
  10. Good question. Are they paid their percentage up front or do they get x percent each year of a contract?
  11. Disagree. As well as he was pitching, one homer did not merit removal. Hinch pulled him at the right time; the Kendrick homer was fluky.
  12. They’ve had their chances. But Scherzer did what great pitchers do when they aren't at the top of their game; he kept the score reasonable.
  13. Did that hit the pole?
  14. Definitely got the 2-1 pitch. But the plate ump has been really good; that was only the second obvious pitch he missed all night.
  15. Great outing by Greinke. I hope the regular season idiots on this board who bitch about not being able to light up anyone who doesn’t throw 96+ were watching, but somehow I doubt it.
  16. Gutty performance by Scherzer; hurt which has affected his control but still held the Astros to 2 runs through 5. Somewhat Schillingesque ala Game 6 15 years ago. Like Verlander last night, he’s being outpitched. Greinke has been fantastic (not sure that adjective is adequate).
  17. Can you get your nose any further in the air?
  18. Seems to me there's not much more that they can do. They've tried talking extension with him a few times and he's not interested; he is going to test the FA market. The only way he's playing 81 games at Fenway in 2021 is if the Sox have the highest offer after next season.
  19. He’s pitched pretty well both games this series, not his best but decently enough. He’s given Houston a good chance in both games but Strasburg has outpitched him both times. The Astro’s pen imploding in both of Verlander’s starts makes the game results look a lot worse than how he pitched.
  20. Yes, rosters expand on September 1 to 28 and every team MUST have 28. No more of one team calling up 12 guys and another 5.
  21. And it’s not like the Nats have crushed the bell this inning (well Suzuki did). The biggest hit of the inning for the add on runs was an infield chopper and this last one could not have been rolled in a better spot.
  22. Astros are in major trouble. Do you really want Grienke taking the mound in a virtual must win postseason game? Go Expos.
  23. He’s a competitor. Those guys never want to come out of a game and they really hate being taken out during an inning. In 1968, Bob Gibson was never taken out during an inning all year (not that there was ever much reason to). I think he would have killed Red Schoendist if the Cards manager had tried.
  24. Suzuki got mixed up and thought he was facing a Red Sox pitcher. Remember how he used to always seem to come up with a big hit in games with the A’s? Man he used to kill us.
