    Manfred is supposedly meeting with all the club owners right now (meeting was scheduled to start at 12:30 Eastern per CBSSports). So there may be some resolution as early as this afternoon.

    Not surprising since they are not physically at Fenway, but in the NESN studios. They probably don’t see a lot more than we do, and unlike us, they are not used to judging things from the sound of a tv feed.

    Agree; long reliever used in early blow out type games. If he holds the other team, fine. If he doesn’t, so what.

    Has to be the other way around. The pitching has to give the O a chance. They’ll hit but you can’t count on scoring 8 every game. Pitching has to keep it to 4 runs or so.

    That was ball 4, 6 inches off the ground and a bit away. How the hell do you pull that on a line into the seats?

    3 runs in 12 innings isn’t going to do it against anybody. Worse, 2 of the 3 are solo homers. No sequential offense that keeps pressure on a pitcher.

    I was about to ask if LeBlanc pitched a game a couple years ago where he completely shutdown the Sox in Seattle but the NESN crew answered that one.

    Really only the one bad pitch to Ruiz. Iglesias hit a real good pitch down and away and there was a perfect bunt.

    Cobb was very good today; looked a lot like he did in Tampa a few years ago and the few balls the Sox hit hard went right at people. It's baseball. Perez looked horrible for 2 and then settled down pretty well. From what Eck said, that's been a nasty pattern with him through spring and summer camps. Benintendi just needs to go up there and attack; that's when he's at his best. He's being too patient and falling behind. Betts could do that, Beni can't. Devers will come around; i'm not worried about him. Again folks, why is it a guy goes 0-10 to start the year and it's panic city; he does the same thing in games 40 and 41 and it's just a short slump.

    I remember seeing him here with the Quad City River Bandits (Astros’ low A farm team) a couple years ago; I think it was parts of 2 seasons. Held his own, especially considering he was 18-19 years old and 2-3 years under the league average age. Anyone know what the rules are for Rule 5 players this year? I know normally they have to spend the equivalent of 1 full season on the big league roster. Do they have to be here for 100 games next year as well?

    How would you have offered more than what he signed for? He wasn’t a free agent. Once he was traded there was no Sox offer possible. He wasn’t going to resign in Boston. Period. Maybe this was clearly communicated to the front office, maybe it was just subtle hints or maybe the FO could read the tea leaves, which is why they traded him. He turned down some pretty hefty offers to stay.

    Tommy Lee Jones was an offensive lineman at Harvard; I think he played in the famous 1968 Yale-Harvard tie. Tom Selleck played basketball at USC. Most people know Mark Harmon was the starting QB at UCLA and that Burt Reynolds was a RB at Florida State.

    Good one. I'd add Wilt Chamberlain. His NBA exploits are well known (mind-blowing actually), but he was the Big 8 high jump champ at 6'6" (at a time when the world record was 7 foot even), threw the shot over 53 feet (WR was around 62 feet), ran a sub 50 second 440 yd (WR was about 45 seconds); keep in mind he was doing these at the age of 18-19, at 7'2" and weighing nearly 250 lbs, and not specializing in any of them. He also played professional volleyball, and could bench press over 500 lbs (and was doing 450+ at age 60). One last note on his NBA career; while they changed the rules to make it easier for Jordan (carrying or palming violations just disappeared), they changed the rules to make it harder on Chamberlain , such as widening the lane to where it is now and outlawing offensive goaltending (many alley-oop dunks currently allowed would have been offensive goaltending in those days). Alleged bedroom gymnastics were not considered in this evaluation..

    There has always been a religious exception, but in reality there are very few religions that have objections, especially here in the US. The only ones I'm aware of are the Christian Scientists and the Dutch Reformed Church. There are a few small Muslim sects in Southeast Asia that object because they think vaccines are pork based, but even if there were members in the US, they don't strike me as the types who would be sending their kids to public school.

    Not really. Anyone who's ever seen a high school wrestling tournament bracket could draw it up. Two teams would have first round consolation bracket byes is all that would happen; it would not be the two teams who got the first round bye sin the championship bracket, however.

    But what would an accountant do with duct tape, a Swiss Army knife and other stuff lying around? I’m thinking about MacGyver here (yeah, I know he was a special ops guy), or those guys in Apollo 13 who rigged a way for the square CO2 filter to fit the round hole in the LEM.

    A layman’s reading of that definition would also exclude teachers who, for some reason, needed TJS to perform their job.

    So who decides the definition of “afford”? How much is that? Or, using a non-economic view, what is that? I agree it’s a bad look, but that’s a very slippery slope.
