  1. DHam and Wong have 5 and 15 PAs, and should not count on the rankings list, IMO.
  2. In terms of plays made: League stats: CF Put out: 11,900-11.950 per yar (90 Fielding Errors, so about 12,00 plays- not counting balls that fell for its. SS18,000-18,500 plays made (POs and Assists) and about 250 Fielding errors for about 21,000-22,000 plays.
  3. It seems that high K rates are part of the game, now.
  4. I think he ends up figuring it out enough to be a net plus, overall. It may take a while to become a plus on O, and he may never get there, like JBJ did for a 2-3 year stretch and hot spots, here and there. He may be a net plus at just a .650 OPS, career, but I think he can get to .700 or more.
  5. I think Grissom might have been viewed as SS depth, before he got hurt.. With the limited winter spending budget Brez had, it's no wonder he didn't go all out for a 3rd string SS. While thinking we could have had better than Reyes and DHam makes sense, too. There is only so much a GM can do to plan for injuries and injuries to your #2 guy at any given position. The plan last year failed, but nobody expected Kike to be that bad on D, and Mondesi to take the whole year off. Bloom did have a plan B and C, but they just failed. Reyes was an afterthought (Remember, Cora was fully confident in Kike at SS. He even kept him there after he said he was not going to be the SS, anymore. I think Brez is waiting to find out how long Story will be out, before making any move. He may end up not making any, even if Story misses 3-5 months. A lot might depend on how they view Grissom as a FT SS..
  6. I agree, because I think he will end up hitting well enough to be a solid FT CF'er. He may even end up being a plus on O.
  7. True, but that does not change what his floor is.
  8. They yanked him after 6. Benitez let up a hit in 2 IP. Guerrero went 1 IP w no hits. Total pitching line: 9 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 10K On O, Woo had 6 hits and 10 BB. Hickey homered. Heineman had no hits but scored 3 runs.
  9. I can and did, but he played 0 games, last season, and only 34 in 2022, so he is a 2 years older than that, now. He's started less than 175 200 games at SS in the past 4 years, combined. Whatever fangraphs says about that sample size may be near meaningless. I'll pass. There should be someone better on D, just as cheap and maybe with more upside on O.
  10. 8 years for Rafaela is perfect. I think it takes him to age 31-32. At worst, he'd be a fine 4th or 5th OF'er/late inning defensive replacement OF'er. IMO, he will figure it out and be a decent hitter, who can also steal some bases.
  11. How much has his D slipped?
  12. Our in house SS options are Reyes DHam Rafaela We'd have to add a SS from outside the system to have another choice. I'm not against the idea, but who is out there? DHam had 2 HRs with WOO and one here. Maybe we ride his horse until he proves he can or cannot fill the role. Has the timeline on Story been confirmed?
  13. The griping is less than last April, when Kike was a one man horror show with a pretty decent bunch of sideshows. Winning 7 of 10 helped lessen the roar, for sure, but 2 of our 3 losses was significantly about poor defense. As I've pointed out before, many bad defensive plays are not called errors and won't lead to unearned runs, but they can and do lead to losses, sometimes. Of course, each loss 9and win) is a group effort. I dislike saying a loss is 100% because of one play, one player or one area of the game. Here is an interesting stat: UnERs ERs 10/55 MIA 10/50 LAD 9/15 BOS 8/52 SDP 6/70 COL The Nats have zero unearned runs (49 ERs)
  14. So, that adds one year to the team's control?
  15. Rafaela is not great on D at SS. He's okay and maybe a plus. What we lose in CF might not offset the gain we get at SS. I realize SS make or misses more plays than CF, so you might be right.
  16. Outs Above Average has us ranked tied for 21st at -2. That's 10 better than Miami. Last year, we were 30th at -50, which was 13 worse than CIN, 20 worse than MIA and an amazing 30 worse than #27 LAA! +1 Rafaela, Duran & Story 0 Abreu & Casas -1 Devers, O'Neill, Valdez -2 Reyes DRS: Sox place 16th at zero.
  17. We don't even have one near average infielder on D.
  18. We've also seen some no error plays, especially missed DPs. With Story out, my guess of finishing around 16th from 30th might need to be adjusted to 20th to 24th.
  19. True, but if I had to guess who is more likely to be a MLB starter in 2025, I'd go with Grissom over Mayer. Mayer at 3B could work, too.
  20. Manny wasn't a creepy character. Bauer looks to be one.
  21. He should sign with the A's for minimum.
  22. Maybe by the end of 2025 (Trade Yoshida) C: Teel, Wong 1B: Devers (Casas) DH: Casas (Devers) 2B: Grissom (Story) SS: Story, Mayer 3B: ______ LF: Duran CF: Rafaela (Anthony) RF: Anthony, Abreu That could be a decent defensive team.
  23. These teams have these records vs others: 2-4 SEA 3-4 A's 4-2 Angels 9-10 overall
