  1. It wasn't until Clemens that I really paid much attention.
  2. Time for Grissom to hit a 2 run dinger.
  3. Williams was great, but Dalbec sucks.
  4. Glad we didn't trade Duran, this morning.
  5. Wink might be earning his way back to the big club. 4IP, 5H, 1ER, 0BB, 4K Valdez has 2 dingers, so far. Hickey & Alvarez have homered once. Kavadas 1-2 w BB Woo is up 11-3 after 6 innings. POR is losing 8-5 2-3 Paulino 1-2 Lugo w HR, BB 1-3 Mayer 1-3 Teel GRE is up 9-0 as Perales has 12Ks in 5IP (1 hit, 2BB)
  6. Even if he was 5-7.
  7. Here are the top pitchers by fWAR from 2023-2024 and how they were acquired: Wheeler: Traded to Mets in '11/ FA '19 S Gray: Traded '17, traded '19, traded '22, FA '24 Z Gallen: Traded '17, traded '19 L Webb: Drafted Gausman: FA '19, FA '20, FA '21 Z Eflin: Traded '14 (twice), FA '22 (not expensive) Strider: Drafted Kirby: Drafted Lopez: Traded '17, Traded '23 Skubal: Drafted Cease: Traded '17, Traded '24 Cole: Traded '19, FA '19 Glasnow: Traded '18, Traded '23 A Nola: Drafted/ FA (re-sign) '23 Burnes: Traded '24 Steele: Drafted Castillo: Traded '16 (twice), Traded '17, Traded '22 (extended) Monty: Traded '22, Traded '23, FA '24 (1 year deal) S Lugo: FA '22, FA '23 (moderate deal) 6 out of 20 were acquired by trade in the last 1-2.5 years) 2 more were acquired by trade over 3 years ago 7 were acquired through Free Agency, some not at a high cost or long term. 6 were drafted Not many traded for were "young," but some were not old, and some are very good pitchers. 8 by trade 7 by FA 5 by draft and holding on I'd have traded Duran for Castillo and maybe Lopez. Cease? Maybe. Burnes? Not for 1 year. Glasnow? No.
  8. Spending is one way, and one we both wish would be tried, more often, but trading some of this projected depth might land us a SP'er or two.
  9. Making it sound like he's calling in sick is not a good comp, IMO. The connotation is he's choosing to not work.
  10. I have very high hopes for Cespedes.
  11. Sale had a worse injury track record than Story, and it wasn't even close.
  12. I'm fine with that plan. We have some flex, if someone does not come through (Mayer) or gets hurt (Story or ____.) The OF looks solid and deep, too, especially if Anthony comes through. Our catchers look fine, and we have Teel looking like a good future catcher.
  13. Not sure, either. Maybe, Mayer at 3B, Story at SS and Grissom at 2B. I'll leave to guess where Devers and Casas play.
  14. In a healthy Sale, for sure. I don't think many of us had faith in his health for 2024 and or 2025. The 2025 option was in serious doubt, before this season began. Plus, it's not like 2B has been a great position for us. Not only were we ranked 30th in fWAR at 2B from 2022-023, we were at -2.0.
  15. Don't tell me you don't know the rest of the story.
  16. True, and if Story moves to 3B.... We also have the Mayer squeeze as a possibility next year or 2026.
  17. True. You got me. That was not a fair statement and implied posters forgot his history. I did say "it's like..." not that people are saying he was never hurt or a question mark. It's just not being talked about by those gushing over a quarter season sample size of 2024. His 4-5 year recent history was why he was traded, and I will say, he was a still question mark, after last year, despite finishing the season healthy for the first time in over 4 years.
  18. Anyone know why Teel has only played one game since May 16th?
  19. I'm still optimistic about Grissom being our fine 2Bman for 5 years.
  20. Speaking of ex-Sox players... Some 2024 Numbers: OPS .978 Betts .821 JD M (83 PAs) .812 T Pham (92) .774 Moncada (44) .748 Dubon .734 Verdugo .727 Schwarber .662 Turner .627 Duvall (79) .602 Urias (88) .581 Bogey (not hearing any crying over Bogey, these days) .540 Espinal .513 Margot .494 Beni (should we trade Wink & Gambrell for Beni?) .486 Renfroe (How about DHam for Renfroe?) .368 Vazquez (Abreu & Valdez?) ERA (If under 40 IP, noted) 0.95 Strahm (19 IP) 2.11 Beeks (21) 2.22 Sale 2.61 Nate 2.84 Paxton 2.95 Ottavino (18) 3.20 R Fernandez (20) 3.32 Kopech (22) 3.45 Diekman (16) 3.63 Kimbrel (17) 4.37 Montas (35) 4.45 Wacha 4.63 Brasier 912) 4.70 Payamps (15) 6.75 Barnes (13) I might have missed a few.
  21. His only homer came when we were down 3-0 vs the yanks. He made it 3-2 in the 3rd. He did score a game winning run vs the Yanks as a PR'er. Dugo knocked him in.
  22. Metrics can help determine if a player has inflated stats due to luck, but I'm not sure that is something that speaks to future results. My guess is Wong's wOBA and xwOBA have improved over past seasons, so maybe that continues to improve, and his other numbers stay the same or don't drop as much as one might expect.
  23. Then he lost the GM's phone number and the deadline expired.
  24. cots says they were about $18M over, last year and projected at $28.4M over, this year (a $9.5M tax)
  25. His D should be okay at 2B as the floor. It's not like he has never hit the ball hard, but clearly he has been struggling in his first 13 games. Had sale gotten hurt or sucked, I doubt this would be such a hot topic.
