  1. Maybe he goes back to HOU, if they miss the playoffs this year. PHI offered him a job, already, but who knows. Maybe he latched onto a team with an ex-Sox excec.
  2. Do they use exit velocity to determine soft line drives vs nearly soft line drives?
  3. I read somewhere the Sox will not limit the IP by Tolle & Bennett. Let's see how that choice works out, and if they get hurt this or next season. It's hard to ignore that Bennett has let up 3-4 runs in 5 straight starts (4.0 to 6.1 IP.) Tolle looks stronger than ever. 2.35 ERA prior (3.00 FIP) 5.67 ERA last 5 starts, but a not bad 3.82 FIP, We really have no other options as the 5th starter and a 6th starter is going into Holobetz/Wehunt territory and/or more burn out the pen games. I can't see Paez or Ziehl getting the call, but we did see Burgos and Seth Martinez promoted to the 40 and big club, so we never know. A lot of posters complained about Brez putting too much focus on pitching, and that was before he pivoted from Bregman to Suarez. We started the season with our 6-10 SP'ers looking as good or better than several teams in MLB. (Not counting injuries) 1-5: Crochet, Gray, Suarez, Houck, Bello 6-10: Tolle, Early, Bennett, Crawford, Oviedo Four on the 60 Day IL and the Early trade (on IL, too) turned the 10 into 5 only. The farm has Holobetz, Paez, Ziehl & Wehunt in AAA, and none started the year in AAA. It looks like AA has no realistic SP'ers that could jump to MLB: Futrell, Mullins, Rogers & Sansone 3.54 Wehunt POR>Woo (10th in IP) 82K:22BB 3.94 Futrell 3 teams (leads farm in IP) 108K:17 BB!!! 4.11 Holobetz POR>Woo (2nd in IP) 103K:26BB 4.12 Ziehl POR>Woo (3rd in IP) 109K:19BB!!! 4.13 Paez POR>Woo (52 IP + 3 IP MLB w CWS)61:6!!! 4.93 Mullins POR>Woo (8th in IP) 107K:48BB 5.66 Rogers FCL>POR (62 IP) 57K:50BB Double YUCK! 5.73 Sansone POR>Woo (6th in IP) 66K:45BB YUCK! Maybe, going by the numbers, the depth charts is: 1. Paez 22 y/o 2. Ziehl 23 3. Wehunt 25/Futrell 23/Holobetz 25
  4. Totally agree, but I'm so done counting on long term IL players returning, and if they do, doing well. I'm thinking Giolito, but even he missed the whole season before. Crawford and Sandoval were supposed to return AUG-SEP 2025. LMAO! Casas is the poster boy for Sox on the IL with Story right next to him. Losing Houck hurt, but so far his timeline to return is not stretched like Gumby. I'm not sure Oviedo would have helped even if healthy, but he likely would have done better than Rivera and the pen games. Maybe he could have displaced Bello before 8 bad starts. We are not getting anyone helpful off waivers, so the only hope is in injured players getting healthy, of someone(s) turning their season around -kinda like Durbin did, or a bunch improving slightly, all together.
  5. We needed both. SSS, but our post deadline losses are... 2-1 4-3 5-3 7-3 6-4 8-4 Looks like a mix between poor offense and not so good pitching. Almost all our wins look like equally good O and good D: 14-2, 13-1, 7-0 (Both) 4-0 (Pitching) 12-11 (Batting) I mentioned Catcher as my position of choice, but I had mentioned SS or LF/DH as other options. It looks like we have to hope that last night was not a sign of Bennett hitting a wall. Or, we have to hope one of our pitchers on the IL, rehabs, soon and can get into shape by September 1-7thish. (highly unlikely.) OPS Against vs SP'ers .608 Bennett 14 GS/ 3.46 ERA .632 Tolle 20/ 2.97 .633 Suarez 21/3.25 .678 Gray 22/ 2.79 (.720 Early 17/3.44) .818 Crochet 6/ 6.30 .839 Sandoval 6/3.30 1.057 Bello 8/ 10.35 The scrubs and pen games: .800 Miller 1 (5 PA) .811 Rivera 3 (34) 1.417 Samaniego 1 (9) 1.433 Moran 3 (18) These 4 allowed 16 ERs in 11.2 IP.
  6. I'm thinking "Hard Hit" by fangraphs is distance only. Their LD% might be exit velo related.
  7. With so many talented players on the IL, some maybe forever and ever, it's interesting to see soxprospects.com's projected 2027 roster without Duran, Story, Kelly, Casas, Eaton, Jones and Harris returning... (Sonny coming back) 1. L Anthony LF 2. S Rutschman C 3. L Abreu RF 4. R Contreras 1B 5. R Mead 2B 6. L Yoshida DH/ R Romy DH 7. R Durbin 3B 8. R Rafaela CF 9. R Arias SS Bench: Wong, Monasterio, White, Romy/Yoshida SP: Crochet, Suarez, Gray, Tolle, Bennet, Oviedo RP: Chapman, Whitlock, Houck, Crawford, Bello, Miller, Slaten/Moran/Weissert C: Jo Garcia & Nate Baez 1B: Gasper (Casas) 2B: Sogard, Rodgers 3B: Romero & Ferguson SS: Cheng & Liendo OF: Campbell, Ward, Castro (Eaton) Portland should be stacked: C: GeRod, Ro, Hernandez & Hudson White 1B: Brannon (RoHern) 2B: Cespedes 3B: Winnay SS: Godbout LF: Gutierrez CF: Jackson RF: Gonzales DH: Mason White
  8. SP:Crochet, Houck, Crawford, Oviedo, Rivera RP: Whitlock, Kelly, Martinez, Berrios C: Juan Montero 1B: Casas 2B: Rodgers SS: Story 3B: IKF OF: Anthony (a lotta ground to cover by himself)
  9. Gotta hope this is just a glitch. We may really need a boost from the IL All Star Team. (No, not Illinois.)
  10. I thought we needed a big bat (pref a Catcher and RHB) and a solid SP'er.
  11. See what happens when they give Rafaela a day off? (More of the same...LOL)
  12. I have a ton of faves- here's mine by album: I Babe I'm Gonna Leave You II Thank You III That's the Way IV Battle of Evermore & Going to California Houses of the Holy: The Rain Song Physical Graffiti: Ten Years Gone & Kashmir Presence: Nobody's Fault But Mine Fool In the Rain is their last good song.
  13. Futrell might be a sleeper. He had a good day: 8K and 0BB in 5 IP. (5H and 2 ER) Winnay had 3 hits w HR and Brannon & Cespedes had 2 hits. WOO lost. KC went 1-3 w 2B & BB (.746) Jackson hit his 18th in the GRE win. Sale lost.
  14. According to MLB.com.... Anthony- Could start Minor League rehab assignment as soon as next week. Story- A rehab assignment could be close. Crochet- Crochet continues to throw at a distance of 50 to 60 feet, but is increasing volume. Whitlock- Will travel with the team to Pittsburgh and will be monitored when the team returns to Boston. No recent updates on other.
  15. If it was the first time you heard Stairway to Heaven, you might think it's okay. They played it to death and beyond the grave. Songs that are somewhat repetitious makes it even worse. BTW, not dissing Zep, I love 'em, but I always thought they'd have been better with a different vocalist. There, I said it out loud.
  16. 5th in AL fWAR is not way behind, but I aree. Alvarez as a DH hurts his WAR. NL: 15.3 PCA 7.9+7.4 9.7 Lopez 4.4+5.3 9.5 Turang 4.2+5.3 AL: 11.1 Alvarez 5.6+5.5 10.6 Witt 5.3A+5.3 10.4 McGonigle 4.8+5.6 9.9 Dingler 5.4+4,5 9.4 Rafalea 4.2 +5.2
  17. They gave up Chris Murphy for him, so I figured he must have some value. His numbers were not great before the trade. BTW, e as a .421 OBP to go along with the HRs.
  18. I've kinda given up on these 3, but prospects sometimes bloom later.
  19. Nice run down. It seems that Brez has not only upgraded the pitching within the system, but catchers, too.
  20. Casas is not in the HOUSE!
  21. Nope, nor should they, but the fact is teams play 13 games vs own division (13 x 4) and 6 or 7 vs other divisions in same league (10 teams x 6-7 gms) Everyone plays 3 games vs 14 teams and 4 games vs a different team. That might not seem like much, and it's better than before but 13 games vs NYY, TBR, BAL & TOR is harder than vs SEA, TEX, LAA & ATH. 52 games is about 33%.
