You still won't says he is currently as good as a #2, let alone a number 1 like he is. You don't have to agree with my methodology, but I call a top 30 pitcher a #1, a 31-60 a #2, and so on. Gray is ranked as such among all pitchers with 80+ IP. 1st in Wins (old school best of the best) 15-3 (send best win% to Burns at 14-2) 9th ERA- (top tier #1) 11th ERA 33rd in fWAR (top range #2) 31st xFIP (almost #1) 43rd WHIP (mid #2) Just say it: he is pitching like a solid #2, this year. One could argue he's a solid #1, but it depends on what you value. There is no argument he's a number 3.

I called him a #2 thatw as closer to a number #1 than a number 3. His WAR and FIP showed a 1-2, but his ERA and other categories a 2-3.

That was the only win in the Sox system. SAL lost 8-5 as Salazar hit his 10th. Primera 1-3 w 2 BB and 3 runs scored (.983) Brito 2-4 (.753) Jose Bello got rocked (6ER in 4 IP with 8 hits and 5BB!)

The Yanks pulled it out in the 10th over the Jays. The O's beat the Rays and passed the Jays to tie for the WC3 slot with TEX. Some games are pending, but DET lost, too. WC race 69-65 NYY +8.0 66-57 BOS +5.5 (game pending) 61-63 TEX & BAL (tied) 61-65 TOR -1.0 60-64 CLE, MIN, DET -1.0 58-66 SEA -3.0 (gasping for air) 6 teams within one game of the last WC slot. TEX is -2.0 from HOU for ALW lead. CLE & MIN are -5.5 from CWS for the ALC lead. NYY are -6.0 from TBR and BOS is -8.0.

Holobetz is trying to show he's not at the top of the rotation depth chart. 2.2 IP, 6 hits, 6ER, 2BB & 4Ks. WOO lost 9-6. Romero (12) and Delay (3) homered. Delay had 3 hits. Nobody else had 2. POR lost 8-6. Remember, all 4 farm teams lost yesterday. Winnay went 2-4 w a dinger. Maybe he gets promoted to AAA. He's at .831. Woo currently has Romy & Hickey at 1B. GRE & SAL play this evening.

A Realistic View at the 2026 Red Sox Part II

Chapman triggered his vesting option and now has another year of team control. $13M/1 A month ago, that looked great. Now, it still looks pretty good, but some concerns have grown. -
He is, but he's also doing way better than you expected and just a little better than many expected. You thought he was a 3 at best, and he's currently a number one by just about any standard of measurement. (I use the "top 30 SP'er" as my measure of who is a #1.) It's okay to change your view when new evidence comes along.

There are 2 added roster spots on SEPT 1st, so that all but negates the 26 man roster issues and likely means no need to DFA anyone. Also, these players have options remaining and could be sent down to add any of these three to four possible returnees. For Anthony: Duran For Story & IKF: Gasper, Sogard & Seigler For Crochet: Burgos & Gamboa We could have added a SP'er and had no roster crunch. We did add a middle infielder who got hurt day one, so a second one added made little sense, but we could have handled one. The LF/DH slot is a little more problematic, and we did add White at the deadline and Jones a while before. Both have no options, but had we added a more quality LF/OF'er we could have not added White. I'm not sure DFA'ing Jones would end the world, but my choice would be to demote Duran to AAA, anyway. That's not happening, so that slot was tricky once we added White.

I think playing light toss with his neighbor. His last "update" was July 24th on MLB.com: Recently threw off the mound for the first time since injury. -
The Devers money is more like no Suarez or Gray, and then no major signing, when their time is up, too. You could say Suarez & Gray, as Suarez is paid $7M this year and Gray $21M. Gray's deal drops away after 2026, leaving Suarez to make up for the Devers money for a few more years. Then, more money to spend after his deal is up and Devers still has a few years of top pay left. Durbin, Suarez, Gray, Monasterio & Seigler and a future signing (+Ziehl) for Devers, Drohan and DHam)

Indeed. That song rings true to us older people, but youngsters should take heed, too. The Allman Brothers were a great band, and Duane's death really hurt, but they have so many great songs. Some of my faves are Dreams Midnight Ride, Statesboro Blues Stormy Monday and Whipping Post (Live at the Fillmore) Little Martha & Blue Sky, Melissa, One Way Out & Aint Wasting Time No More Jessica & Rambling Man

Including Durbin in evaluating the Devers trade is legit, since Harrison was the major piece bring Durbin to BOS. Now, we need to talk Monasterio & Seagler, too. We also got Ziehl for Hicks (and Sandlin.) Count Tibbs (and Erhard) for Dustin May, if you wish, too. I won't. In a way, we can combine several trades into this: Devers, Drohan, Sandlin & DHam for Durbin, Monasterio, Seagler, Ziehl and a ton of salary relief, which we all knows will affect future JH spending allotments.
