No need to replace a pitcher on the IL for the full season, so in other words, we did not subtract a 2026 pitcher when trading Early.

I'd word it like this: We need a good bat and a good SP'er. Catcher made the most sense to upgrade at the bat, so Rut made sense. If he just hit .728, it's a 100 point gain on the team Catching OPS and 200 on Narvy. We shoulda gotten a SP'er, but didn't really have much left to trade. I doubt Seigler, Holobetz and Jones get us a decent SP'er. That's about all we could afford to trade after Rut. In hindsight, maybe dont spend so much on Rut- spread it out and get a decent bat (not at Catcher) and a decent SP'er, too.

Here is a summary of the middle infield roller-coaster ride for 2026. While this has been a reoccurring issue for years, we've actually gotten better results, this year with what I have called the "carrousel of clowns" in recent years. SS: We started the season with Story, who sucked even more than 2025's start of the season. As we awaited a repeat of a turn-around, he got hurt and went on the 60 day IL. Monasterio and IKF took over for about a week, before we moved Mayer to SS (see the 2B log.) IKF played some SS when Mayer sat (vs LHPs,) but then he went on the IL just as he got his OPS up to .705. Cheng took over shortly before our historic hot streak. Monasterio started playing about half the time after 5 games in a row by Cheng. A moth later, Cheng went down, and Monasterio became the FT SS from July 22 to today, when Story begins the next chapter. 2B has been a near free-for-all. Mayer won the job, perhaps by default, to start the year with IKF playing against some LHPs. It became a straight platoon, until Story got hurt. Mayer moved to SS, and Sogard was given his first shot at keeping the 2B platoon with IKF, but by the start of June, Monasterio and Seigler replaced Sogard, and IKF went on the IL. It looked like Seigler won the FT job through June, with Romy playing a few games at 2B when not DH'ing. By the end of July, Sogard started his second stint at 2B (and some SS) with Seigler playing a few games at 2B. It was pretty much Sogard-Seigler for all of August, until today. Seigler was demoted and it looks like we will see Story at SS, Sogard at 2B and Monasterio giving Story a breather for a week or two. Maybe Monasterio plays 2B vs LHPs, but Sogard kills LHPs, too. Maybe Sogard plays for Story vs some tough RHPs. Barring injuries, we will probably see this pattern continue until the season is over: SS: Story FT with some days off vs RHPs. (Sogard at SS those days.) 2B: Sogard vs LHPs and most RHPs. As much as the Antony and Crochet injuries have gotten so much attention, to me the Mead injury might have been as costly or almost as costly, since it was an add as an adjustment to our in-season needs. The other injuries we have had were sort of dealt with during the preseason, when we decided not to trade Duran, and added so many SP'ers over bats. Mead's injury was certainly more significant than Story's.

I like it, too. I'd have put Sogard at SS and Story at 2B, but we all know why these guys are too chicken to do what is best for the team. (It's too late to trade Story like we did Devers, and nobody wants him.)

Which include leading the team in HRs, RBIs and SBs.

I'd have waited a day or two more on the Story promotion.

They probably could have sent a pitcher, and then we add one on Sept 1st, but I understand why they didn't. White and Jones have no options but have 2-3 arbs left, so I can see why they kept them. I'd have waited to Sept 1st to call up Story, but maybe Gasper gets added then. He earned a stay.

The Sox have demonstrated they can make up ground on everybody over a very short period of time, but losing today will make it much harder, as the Yanks are a team we want to pass. I keep expecting the Rays to have a losing streak/stretch but they keep defying me, ole Pythagorean and a few others. First place is a long shot. Second place will be, if we lose 3 of 4 to NYY.

I'm against adding SWR, but our farm is nearly barren of 40 man roster pitchers. Olds was just sent down. Burgos was up for the doubleheader and lost some stock value with his lack of production. Samaniego is hardly mentioned anymore. Rivera is on the IL. Slaten is likely toast for the season, and talking about Crochet, Houck, Crawford and Oviedo seems near pointless. None are pitching live farm games. They'll need to do that just to prepare for an adjustment period in the bigs, and we can't afford to experiment with adjustments at the end of the season.

I think Anthony becomes the FT DH, eventually, but may sit vs some LHPs, early on. His history has been decent vs lefties (.738 career.) Maybe he leads off vs RHPs and bats 5th or 6th vs LHPs (behind Contreras.) I think we will platoon Duran in LF with White/Jones, assuming we keep both out-of-options players. How we play Story will probably grab the most debate time.

He needs to "regain," or we will have to rely on Tolle and Bennett to go beyond their ideal innings level. That may greatly increase a chance for an injury, either now or next season.

"Average" from piss-poor is almost as good an upgrade as average to star level. That being said, if Rut remains average, we grossly overpaid for that upgrade- meaningful or not.

We really have no 6th starter, now. The opener-Bello as the 5th starter seems tenuous, at best, but that should not be needed in the playoffs. Bello can piggy-back Sandoval or anyone needing an early hook. It's certainly a weak area, but for now, we may get by. Bennett's nice start was very encouraging.

I predict: Burgos demoted as 27th player for doubleheader. + Story & Anthony - Gamboa & Seigler When IKF is healthy, I think add him to the 28 man roster. Can they add Olds back so quickly, since it's the roster expansion day and not a quick call-back. I think they strain to keep Jones and White, since bot have 2-3 arbs left. (Both have zero options.)

Not the stats: he's lost at the plate.

Justin Gonzales is raking at AA ball! He may jump the rankings this winter. 4 for 6 (1.260) Jo GARCIA DID BETTER! 3-5 w 2 HRs a BB and 6 rbi. He's been impressive with the bat this year. .829 with 16 HRs. POR won 14-3. Woo lost 9-1: IKF 2-4, Anthony 0-2 w BB and Story 1-3 Delzine Kd 7 in 3 IP in SAL's loss. 0 BB, 3H and 2 ER Morgan went 3.1 of no hit ball in GRE's loss.

I'm glad Duran is sitting vs every LH SP'er. He can PH later on.
