Wehunt pitched well. Could he be added and promoted? Romy are 4-5, Romero 3-5 and Arias 2-5 in a game delayed and tied 3-3 in the 10th. POR won 5-4 as Brannon (21 and .938) and Godbout (.867) homered, The Sea Dogs faced Eyanson, who did well. Ronny Hernandez homered, and GRE is 3-3 in the 7th. SAL lost 1-0 as Tolbert and Judice pitched well. Primera went 2-4 (.948)

People seem so sure of a lock-out. I suppose there could be one, and even if it doesn't it could effect things like the R5 draft. No biggie.

Well, the Mead and AR trades go fully against this idea. Both have one year left. We traded away over 20 years from the future for 1.3 years from each.

Mead does give me better hopes for 2027, but I wasn't ready to give on 2026. Nor Brez, as evidenced by the AR gamble.

The Sox have had a bunch of injuries, but maybe the killer one was Mead. Probably no Mead injury, then no need to try and beef up the O with the AR trade. We trade for a SP'er instead.

I'm not sure why the O's not wanting to resign Rut matters much. Word is the Yanks were ready to overpay, too. The O's worked the big overpay well. Most deadline trades range from overpay to huge overpays. That's why dealing in winter is better, and Brez did a lot of that. The trade was a big gamble. It looks horrible now. It can only become close to a wash, if all the guys we gave don't work out.

Nobody is saying it wasnt a huge overpay. I'm not sure there will be a lock-out.

Hard to support the trade, but I still think it made some sense at the time. We needed help on O after the Mead injury. Our catcher offense was horrible, and Wong was not likely to stay over .700. (He has not.) It was a big gambe at the time, because it had 2 hinges: Rut's health Rut's questionable offense To me, the worst part will be if what we gave up turns out good>great. I like the effort, but the results have sucked, so far. I'd rather see Mean & Rut trades than Bloom's nada. Your point about JH not bucking up for big signings is why we need to try big trades.

I'm big on catcher defense value, so I think it's somewhere in between on fWAR and BWAR with catchers.

I don't see a major roster crunch, this winter, unless we add 3-5 new players without trading any 40 man guys to get them. I think we'll add Brannon and maybe Jo Garcia and or Wehunt to protect from Rule 5, but that may be it. Some Rule 5 eligible players might eb traded or left exposed and lost. Mikey Romero, Ronny Hernandez, Noah Song, Nate Baez, Miguel Bleis and Braiden Ward (Nathan Hickey? Nope.) I happen to think Arias will be added to the 40, when ready for the 26 and that may be before opening day, but perhaps we wait until we place someone on the 60 Day IL. The ETAs listed on soxprospects,com may not be that accurate, but here are some that are near MLB ready (although maybe not good enough) 2027: 1 Arias, 9 Holobetz, 10 Wehunt, 18 Ed. Who called Devers washed up as a batter? Some mentioned it looked like decline might be showing, and even with the strong recent showing, his OPS+ has been... 131 from '19-'23 142 in 2024 140 in 2025 (151 w BOS) 130 in 2025 w SFG 132 in 2026 w SFG That is far from "washed up," but does show some decline. This shows just a slight decline: wRC+ 133 w BOS 2019-2025 126 w SFG

.709 in 2024 is mediocre, but a 3.4 bWAR is pretty good. fangraphs agrees (1.8 fWAR in '24 is 18th to 20th best) It was a big gamble by Brez. Mead was too. Brez is certainly no paralyzed with indecisiveness Bloom.
