The thing is he started a major improvement at age 25 not 27, so it's not far-fetched to think this could be for real. If I had to bet, I'd say he will not sustain even this .750 OPS.

Even if they give Arias the KC treatment out of ST'ing, I see them playing Story at 2B or Arias at 2B and Story stays at SS. (UGH!!! LEEE! I know.) I agree on just cutting ties with Yoshida, but right now, he's better than other options at DH v RHPs.

One thing Bennett is doing that many past Sox pitching phenoms could not is keeping his pitch count low.

He had more PAs against RHPs than LHP, last year and the year before. While .718 in not great, it was near the league average. Who know how he does going forward. He's also coming back from a long time off.

There is no way we even get Yordan. This whole trade is a pipedream, even before adding Pena. Something for just Pena is possible, and with all the talk of Lindor or Adames, I do wonder, but I think you are right. The view Story as our SS for 2026 and probably 2027, too.

We could add Alvarez and Pena and keep Story for 2B. I'd think Masa would have to go, unless we trade Duran to someone else (or HOU.)

As of right now, my trade pieces are no higher than Phillips, Romero, Cespedes and Holobetz. I might be talked into Gonzales or maybe Witherspoon, if our outlook improves, which includes a better chance that Anthony or Crochet will return, soon. What these prospects get us is probably a DH/LF'er and RP'er. As of now, I do not think we are far apart. I'd prefer a SS over LF/DH, but their cost is higher than I'm willing to go. Even Witherspoon, Gonzales and Holobetz is not getting us a big boost at SS.

Mayer does still have trade value- maybe more than my listed Witherspoon. To me, Mayer's trade value has slipped to a point where I'd prefer to keep him for 2 reasons: 1. He still has upside 2. We need middle infield help and a decent back-up 3BMan. I'm not for buying big, right now. I'm fully against an all-in buying deadline. I'm not even sure that changes of we go undefeated before the deadline. I'm still leaning sell for Gray and am maybe 50-50 on Chapman. His age scares me, even if we go all in for 2027.

Durbin at clean-up for game 1. He's doing well and has shown some power, but man, this team really needs a power RHB.

For you to ever think we are a highly competitive team, some impossible things need to happen. No more or less impossible than us buying this summer and winning a ring. If we are the amount of pieces away you think we are, and we lose Gray, Contreras and Chapman get older, we'd need an way too much AND even the best GM in MLB would have to hit on 90% of his significant moves to get us where you think we need to be, IMO, we are closer than you think, but maybe farther away than I think. The lack of major starpower bats is a major stumbling block. We agree on that. I'm not sure adding Jeffers and Lowe would be enough. We'd likely need Anthony, too and some pitcher to return from the IL to take up the slack of our limited IP starters, going forward. That's a lot of "if," and that is why I am still slightly on the "sell" side of the fence. Selling Gray for a future piece addresses the issue I brought up about needing even more for 2027 than we need now. This is no easy choice to make. I know people hate to hear this, but if we don't sell, we should just see what the best we can get for the Romero, Phillips, Holobetz, Cespedes types- just like the past deadline that most everyone bitched about.

Perfect post. It seems the ox leadership had a consensus on the need for Devers to eventually play 1B. That does not mean everyone held the same exact views, and Cora came right out and said, we need and will have "more conversations" about the move. IMO, and it's just an opinion: Cora was the best guy to talk to Devers and he didn't or wouldn't do it. I'm assuming he "wouldn't" because he didn't want to do it when asked to do it. That might be the main reason he is no longer here- well that and the horrific start to 2026. There is enough blame to go around that to me, no single person has more than 50% of it. If I had to say who had the most, it would likely be Devers, but I think it i close to... 40% Devers 35% Breslow 25% Cora 5-10% margin of error and when and if more facts come out, this could change. Devers refused to do what was asked of him by his boss. Forget the McDonalds analogy, although it was a good one: the fact is he defied his bosses wishes. Cora seemingly refused or avoided doing what his job demanded he do. The same language part of the issue made it seem even more important that he be the one to address the delicate nature of the ask/demand or Devers. Brez may very well be the "prick" or "dictator" people make him out to be, but this was about what was in the best interest of the team. I also don't care if anyone thinks it wasn't in the best interest. They don't count. The team decides what is best and usually the manager is the one that implements the plan.

I'm asking do you trade 3 or 4 of the 4, not which 2 would you trade. "All in" is not trading just Eyanson & Witherspoon." AZ wanted Early for Kelly, last summer. All in will need more than 2 AA prospects. I'm not ever sure all 4 is enough, and that has been my whole point about this "all in" talk. It "might not be enough" as is.

Assume the same health- no Crochet or Anthony. Do you trade Arias, Eyanson, Witherspoon & Gonzales for Yordan Alvarez? If we add Godbout and Early for Pena, too? BTW, word down here is that HOU is on the phone as buyers, right now, but that could change.

Of course I am assuming those teams will be sellers or like the Rays- trade FAs-to-be, even when contender. I think there is a good chance some teams will be sellers that are in the race right now.... maybe even the Sox. 3 weeks is a long time. We just saw what can happen in 2 weeks.

Be Serious. There is a zero chance you think we will be contenders in 2027 or 2028, when those years come. We just has a playoff team that added Contreras, Gray and Suarez, and you projected we'd miss the playoffs. If you think we'll add more than that or do even better, this coming winter, with your buddies at GM and owner, I'll politely ask, "are you serious?"

I'm asking for serious responses to a scenario that is far from serious: Assume we win every game between now and the deadline (or lose just 1-2,) and on August 3rd we are a top 2-3 AL team. Would you trade Arias, Eyanson and Witherspoon to get a big player or two? Would you trade two of those three? Would you include Early instead of Eyanson or Witherspoon or all 4? I'm afraid it might take 3 of these guys to get what some seem to think we need/should target.
