  1. Going by Spotrac's numbers and a possible $45M budget, maybe this is the best we could do: 24.9 Schwarber 15.0 Suarez 7.0 Hoskins 4.0 Matz Duran($8M) K Campbell ($7.5M) & Sandlin for Greene ($8.3M) saves $7M and adds $7M to the $45M winter budget suggested above.
  2. We could do this and hardly any one we give up is being counted on for big 2026 production, but I think the extended future is a great priority to this organization. Like the Crochet trade, I think we could see immediate boost by doing another blockbuster or two, and when you get players with 3+ years of control, or extend them, then it can be about the outlook AND the here and now. I'm thinking the most we could even dream of is Marte & Lodolo and then a major signing like Schwarber or Alosno, but more likely it might be Suarez on a 2-3 year deal.
  3. They probably are, but maybe not by more than $5M AAV, and it depends on the years. I would give Schwarber $30M AAV before Bellinger, so I think they are off in some areas.
  4. We could probably get Greene and K Marte, but more likely K Marte & Lodolo. I'm not sure Brez & Co want to part with that much younger value to get 2, but if they want to go cheap, it is one alternative way to add the high quality we need. (KMarte is not cheap.)
  5. According to SPOTRAC, these are the AAV market values of the besteveryday players on the FA Market: (Actually, Polanco is listed as player option) 40 Tucker 30 Bellinger 29 Alonso 28 Bregman 25 Schwarber 23 Bichette 15 Naylor, Suarez, Polanco 14 Gurriel. Arraez, Torres 13 Ozuna, Realmuto 12 Grisham 11 O'Hearn, Yaz, Bell, Castro 10 Rengifo, Bader 8 S Marte, Kepler 7 Goldschmidt, Mullins, T Pham, Conforto 6 M Andujar, C Santana, J McCann 5 C Taylor, Kiner-Falefa, Moncada 4 G Sanchez, Refsnyder, A Frazier
  6. True. I think I lowered him due being last in good ole fashioned PAs & HRs. We don't need an OF'er, but my list was supposed to be just bat value. Point well taken.
  7. I responded to both trades. If I'm trading Bello & Garcia/Perales for K Marte, he'd come here not to CIN. I'd then try a separate trade for Hunter Greene (or settle on Lodolo) which might include Duran or Abreu, Garcia or Perales (the one not traded) plus more, if it's Greene. Even if we get K Marte, I'd want another top 4 batter from free agency.
  8. I think the union might go along with some sort of soft cap, if there was some sort of hard floor on team spending that went up by $5-10M every year of the deal. Then, it goes up again by the amount of revenue sharing increases, too.
  9. He led the Sox minors in IP and ended up with a decent 3.58 ERA, but the .720 OPS Against is not that good. 4.33 FIP/4.09 xFIP He could be the odd man out, if younger pitchers start making jumps.
  10. SPOTrac does not even list him, and they list all the option players.
  11. I'm counting Polanco as available. If I had to rank the best batters, among availables, I might go... 1. Schwarber 2. Alonso (Big Gap) 3. Suarez 4. Polanco 5. Tucker (Big Gap) 6. Bregman/Bichette 8. Bellinger/Ozuna
  12. I really underestimated their opening season roster, and they seemed to get batter as the year went by. .734 OPS first half .799 second half (OPS Against was almost the same- near .720.) Their 8-9 batters hit under .663. It didn't hurt getting 30+ starts from 3 SP'ers, and somehow they got by with a 4.90 FIP Closer addition. When you look at their top 9 batters by PAs, only #9 Miles Straw was under .711 (.680.) They only had 3 batters over .770, but Varsho at #10 was at .833.
  13. YEARS go first. Tax line is important, too.
  14. If you are the AAV accountant, yes.
  15. I'd put Polanco 5th. If KMarte is available... I'd be okay with Bregman & Suarez or Suarez and Polanco, but I'd prefer Schwarber and scraps like Hoskins, Rengifo or even Bell as the #2.
  16. Start with a 1: $199M/4
  17. I would too, but if we are not going over the tax line, that would be our only $$$ addition. We might even have to trade Duran's $8M for a cheaper pitcher to get us under.
  18. Fair enough, and when you figure Alonso is so awful on D, the DH label for Schwarber should not deter us from making him plan A or "Dream A," if you believe JH won't go that large and long. One good thing is that the DH label might keep the bidding down a smidgeon. So, if Schwarber is plan A and Alonso plan B, who is your plan C and D? Would we need Plan C and E to make up for missing out on A and B?
  19. Arenado has a hefty price tag of $30M x 2 on the tax line, according to cots. He's owed $27M in 2026. Hicks is owed $12M x 2 and tax line is $10.2M x 2. I think the tax line might matter more to JH than actual money.
  20. I focus on players I think are available and the JH might pay for. I have changed my focus from highly specific positions, as you have moved me away from that, but I get channeled in on a select few. As for guys I offer in trade, I think they have value to other teams more than to ours.
  21. Yup. Why didn't we go over 2 of every 3 years since 2020?
  22. Masa for Arenado, yes: Hicks no, unless they chip in $10-15M a year. I doubt AZ gives up KMarte for Bello. They might want Garcia or Perales, too.
  23. Eaton can play 3B, something we need, and OF. He can also PR. It's not a clear choice, but I don't see Wong as being useful at 2B or 1B. His value is working well with pitchers as a catcher.
  24. Murphy still caught 633 innings in '25. That was still top 30 in MLB. His bat is not what it used to be, for a couple years, now, so you might be right. Maybe Hicks and Sandlin? Hicks and Cespedes/Bleis/Castro/Mullins....
