  1. I remember, now. It was a pile of Nomar.
  2. Mark Poilshuk reports: Tanner Houck is being evaluated by Red Sox team doctors after sustaining “a recurrence of the right pronator strain” the right-hander initially suffered back in mid-May...
  3. Kyson Witherspoon signs for $5M bonus. (The slot was $5.11M.) With the 15th pick, the Sox drafted and signed a consensus top 10 player for slightly under slot. Fangraphs had him 6th, BA had him going 7th and Keith Law & MLB.com had him 10th.
  4. If we add a solid #2 SP'er, maybe we can get by without boosting the pen. We can roll the dice by hoping returning pitchers from the IL or converted SP'ers can be enough help. SP1 Crochet SP2 Ryan, Keller, or ____ (not a rental, PLEASE!) SP3 Giolito SP4 Bello SP5 Fitts or Sandoval (The other goes to the pen) Closer: Chapman RP2: Whitlock RP3: Wilson RP4 Weissert RP5 Bernardino RP6 Alcala RP7 Buehler RP8 Sandoval or Fitts, Hicks, Houck, Murphy, I Campbell, Harrison, Criswell, Kelly, Guerrero I really hate the idea of giving good prospects for a rental, and a 1Bman rental seems to make it even worse. If we can get one with Rule 5 borderline prospects and maybe a decent but blocked second tier prospect, okay, but I'm still against trading a top 8-9 prospects for a Naylor, Hoskins, ___ type. (Alonso, okay.)
  5. He can play just about everyday, if he DHs, when Bello pitches.
  6. Yes, but the cost for these two rentals will likely be steep, and after this year, we got nada.
  7. I remember us trading Nomah, but who was Nomar?
  8. When's the last time we heard about the botched Bogey extension?
  9. I was hoping Cora would start Mayer at 2B and put Romy at 1B, instead of Toro or at DH, instead of Yoshida vs the lefty. Toto and Yoshida had 4 of our 6 hits. Maybe Corta knows more than we do. Just maybe. Geesh- two games and we are back to mega- nega- ville.
  10. It's hard to know. He's the kind of hitter that can bring his numbers up to career norms in a week or two. I agree that the word "genius" would fit, but when you see so much hindsight judging going on, why not with this move, too?
  11. True, but if he knows he will reach 140, he might demand a lot, but this assumes he stays healthy and keeps pitching like an ace or solid #2 for 12 more starts. I haven't heard a peep about current extension talks.
  12. I would do Casas & Sandlin. I probably would do Casas & Romero, but if we lose Bregman, we may wish we didn't. Casas and Early might be okay, as we just added so many pitchers in the draft. Ideally, we'd offer Casas and Mullins and cross our fingers.
  13. He's got 77.2 IP and needs to reach 140. There are 62 games left, and Gio could get 12-13 starts. It's a close call. He'd need 5.1 per start w 12 GS or just under 5 IP per start w 13 GS. Giving him the first start out of the ASB gives him a better chance at 13 GS.
  14. He's been streaky over his career, but not usually this bad, unless influenced by injury. If this is a sign of career decline, this early, Brez may end up being viewed as a genius.
  15. I'd like to see us get him, but at what return? I'd offer Casas & Romero. Maybe Casas & Early or Sandlin. I doubt any of these get the job done. Would anyone offer Casas, Romero & Sandlin?
  16. Gio might be back. There is a $14M club option.
  17. Rentals: Is .681 Santana (11 HRs) enough? .767 Hoskins (12 HRs)? .813 Naylor (11 HR)? At what cost? .892 Alonso (21 HRs) has a $24M player option and would be very costly to obtain.
  18. Lugo has a player option for 2026.
